Manchester United Thread

The team ain't that bad. Just that centre of midfield is awfull. Scholes and Keane or Smith should not play. But fergie doesn't seem to want to renew that part of the team,.

The vultures are circling!!

Saturday was bad, really bad, one of those results that happens every now and again.

But thats all it was, a one off, Boro havent played like that against anyone all season and inturn we havent played that bad all season...

It is the kick up the arse they needed and hopefully we'll put it right against Lille in the CL...

In fairness, 'Boro did play exceptionally well. Let's hope for a result in CL on Wednesday and a display on Sunday. Can't ask for more than that.

You're right. We really cant ask for more than that. I wouldnt be surprised if we beat Lille and then lost our next game.

Yeah Boro did play well but us playing so bad helped their cause..

Even when we we're flying these results happened evey now and again so im not too bothered, if dont get a good result in the CL I wont be happy though...

Shit happens, even to the big teams.

You should spank Lille in mid week and the Chelski game is the perfect opportunity to bounce back like Man Yoo have done in the past. Plus I think I speak on behalf of all Gooners when I say that I FULLY expect, nay demand that you stop Chel$ki's unbeaten run next week after you so ruthlessly chose to halt ours. Anything less would be just unfair ;)

I think we will nick a result 1-0 on Wednesday night. We need to concerntrate more at the back - and take our chances up-front. On Sunday it will be a tough, tough game - we need to get physical with Chelsea, not let their wingers get the ball i.e. Robben, Duff etc, and stay very tight at the back. With the crowd behind us, again, we can nick it 1-0, and that will REALLY test their long-term character. I think a draw will really suit Chelsea.

Wish I shared all of your optimism. Lille without Rooney, scholes will be tough. I think it will force SAF to use a 442 though, with Fletcher and smith central and Ronaldo and Park wingers. The question of who will partner Ruud...is Rossi really ready for a full match? Maybe. Don't see us having much choice...surprise Saha return? I really hope he doesn't bring in miller and use a 4-5-1, which I could see him doing given the personnel. No offense to miller, but I don't think thats the answer. A more inventive solution would be to move Rio to DMF, allow smith to take over scholes' role and leave fletcher where he is. I think it would be worth a try, though maybe not in the CL!

As for Chelski, I just don't know. I thought we were going to be fine earlier this year when Ruud scored at teh very beginning of the match, but then they dominated us, especially in the midfield. And without Keane and with Scholes playing mediocre, what can we really do? Essien, Lampard and Makele v. Smith Fletcher and Scholes? I don't like them, but I know who I'd pick. The only consolation will be that Robben will most likey get hurt again, cause he gets hurt every match. I also worry this could be a Rooney/Smith send off danger game. Could be a very good week...but I fear the worst...

Keane gagged by United after TV attack on players

Captain names those he believes are not up to it Ferguson and Gill block outburst after Boro defeat

Manchester United's season went from bad to worse last night when Roy Keane castigated his team-mates in an interview so explosive that Sir Alex Ferguson and his chief executive David Gill immediately banned it from being shown on the club's in-house television station.
Keane's criticisms of United's players were so extreme that MUTV's producers decided they would have to contact Ferguson and Gill for permission to put it on the air. A transcript was sent to Gill and, with Ferguson's backing, he ordered that the tape must be binned. MUTV showed a youth academy match instead.

The exact content of Keane's vitriol is not known but MUTV officials were described as being genuinely taken aback by the severity of his comments. The Keane rant has become an annual part of United's season in recent years but never before has he named names.
Rio Ferdinand, Darren Fletcher, Alan Smith, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson are believed to be among those named and shamed in the aftermath of Saturday's 4-1 defeat away to Middlesbrough, their heaviest defeat in 19 months. Liam Miller, who did not play at the Riverside, is also said to have been identified.

Keane took aim during a 30-minute interview that was scheduled to go out at 5.30pm yesterday in a show entitled Roy Keane Plays the Pundit, in which he was shown video clips of Middlesbrough's goals and asked to give his opinions. According to those who were present, it became obvious within 10 minutes that the interview would be "explosive even by his standards" and beyond editing.

On numerous occasions he was invited to tone down his words but the man who once claimed there was nobody in the Old Trafford dressing room whom he considered a friend continued to condemn Ferguson's players. He accused individuals of playing with their reputations, of not trying and of not understanding the principles of the club. "His attitude stinks" is a phrase that was apparently used. Ferguson's use of Smith in midfield was also thought to have been questioned.

It remains to be seen how Keane, currently recuperating from a broken foot, will react to the interview being pulled when he clearly wanted his feelings to be known. Gill is thought to have tried to contact the United captain to explain his reasoning.

One certainty, however, is that the outburst will not help United's bid to dissuade Keane from leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. A fiercely proud man, Keane is not the type to accept being gagged and, at the age of 34 and with 12 years' service to the club, he is entitled to feel that he is in a position to make his anger known.

Although Keane has been outspoken in the past, he has always argued that his criticism of players is constructive. It could be more divisive in terms of dressing-room morale that his colleagues will now be wondering what has been said about them.

United's hierarchy, in turn, are appalled that the club captain could be so condemnatory of his colleagues and willing, apparently, to create the impression that the club is in disarray. They believe his tirade would have done more harm than good and there was no way they could allow the screening an interview that effectively amounted to a calculated attack on attitude, morale and work ethic. The club desperately wanted to keep the matter from the press and MUTV officials have been ordered to make no comment.

Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson? I'm surprised Keano would have targeted them, Smith in particular. he's been pretty nice about Smith's new role in previous interviews. But O'shea, Ferdinand, Fletcher and Miller can be talked about all he wants IMO, though harsh on Miller there must be a reason he's never in the first team.

Sigh, what better way to get up morale for the weds game?

We lost to Boro 2-1 but we had freakin CYGAN on..... Dont forget your missing key players like HEINZE and Gneville....... Heinze woulda never gaven a dumb penalty like that....but in all fairness richardson is playing waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy out of position

Arsenal vs ManU this season will be crap unless chelsea lose 6 in a row which is just a dream at tthe moment

To be fair Boro were missing Ehiougu (how do you spell that!) Southgate and Xavier so thats there back 4 stuffed. So you cant blame it all on injuries.

As for beating Lille - comon Lille\\:o/ The french are looking forward to it over here.

Too bad Neville isn't fit to kick Duff in the air a la Reyes! :)

I think United will be up for it. It happens to all big teams. Look at when we had key players out and United spanked us 6-1 *shudder* :(

There just seems to be no one to replace Keane, as we're finding with Vieira. Someone in the middle to lift up the team by the scruff of the collar.

I expect a team with the history and combatative nature as United to bounce back. It's far to early to write off anyone at the moment, even though the Rouble Rousers think so.

That was on my 18th birthday as well :(

Still, that was the same season that Henry spanked THAT dipping volley over Barthez at Highbury. Fair trade :)

(but dont mention there using our castoffs to look a half decent team)

lets see whats what come next may ey lad....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

So Keano has come out and said what most of us have been saying for months...

Its been frustrating that no one at the club has acknowledged what we can all see with our own eyes....

Trust it to be Keano to tell the truth!

LEGEND!

Fix up Fergie!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Im quite glad Keanes spoken out. Atleast these players will now get the kick up the backside they need.
Although it was a bit harsh critisizing Smith, a striker forced to play as a DM, and Richardson, an attacking winger playing as a left-back.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

So Ruuds your captain tonight according to reports big snub for Rio there what do guys make with alot of United fans making parraels with Uniteds 1968 European cup win side.....?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

keano was spot on with what he said and the type of bloke he is he will have said it to every single player's face...

and rightly fuckin so!!

Keano is The Truth!!!!!!!

I expect us to bounce back and get a result tonite, surely Lille can't be as negative at home (well sort of at home) as they was at OT...

Gutted that FC Uniteds game against Chadderton has been called off due to waterlogged pitch, was looking forward to watching a good game of footie tonite aswell, oh well it'll have to be United in The CL instead...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Come on Vann, it's not the thing he should be doing. Especially the young guys in the team. Bet he was helped into the team when he was younger by some of the older pro's.

They don't need a bloody looney to be going nuts. The guy is constantly injured anyway, why doesn't he elect to take a reduced payment because he can't do anything for the 'cause'.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

First of all, (I'm sure) Keane wasnt that young when we first bought him. Secondly, he's arguably the only player in our squad that justifies his wage and he's old now so of course he's gonna want to recieve as much as possible while he can.

What he did was what the manager should have done a looooooooooooooong time ago.

what he said was true though, as far as supporters are concerned, thats all that matters....

its not even comparable to keane getting into the team, the likes of fletcher, richardson and sheasy wouldnt have survived getting into that team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Rune - Don't talk silly, no manager could go out and say that to players and expect them to deliver for him. Things like that should remain behind closed doors, not for everyone to see. If he wants to have words, he'd do it face-to-face.

I don't think Fergie is actually a shrinking violet when it comes to team-talks. It's just a case that now that someone has came in with loads of money they've just blown Man Utd away and all other teams that just can't compete.
