And Beto my god that guy was quite awful.

That match was awful for him.

He's a defensive midfielder, not a right winger or whatever you call it...

He plays well at that position, specially if we want to keep a result he can be solid in the middle and start some attacks, but Koeman was just plain stupid putting him in that position. It was a sad night for him, so he should've came off @ halftime. He didn't deserve to come out of the pitch the same time as M. Fernandes, who played a good match...

Oh well, if there was any game to lose, this one would be the most acceptable one... We played well at Old Trafford, even if Manchester didn't have some key players (notice: Karagounis) but we were able to play a good match and if our shooting was better we could've won it.

I thought it was a good match, and there are still 4 matches to go, 12 possible points... We may very well go through still.

When's the next match btw?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

our next match against u ppl will be...next year...Feb i think?? forgot the schedule...but sometime around then...

Oh, sorry, haven't been here in a while...just got used to the new school year and finding time to watch ball as well...lolz, but what's the problem with the 4-3-3?? i think it's a great attack method!! (well, at least in WE9)...Ronaldo has so much freedom there, fits Van Nistelrooy's playing style...and get's fletcher better and better each game...

Great game btw...still missing the shots, and was being pressed in some time...great game by benfica!

Keane set to quit United at the end of the season

Roy Keane has stunned Manchester United by revealing he expects to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The Irishman's contract is due to expire in the summer and it was widely assumed he would be given at least an extra year, possibly to combine playing duties with a coaching role.

However, in a live MUTV phone-in, Keane has rejected any likelihood of moving straight onto Sir Alex Ferguson's backroom staff and feels it will be the end of the season before United chief executive David Gill decides whether the 34-year-old will be handed an extension, by which time it will be too late.

'I would like to play another year or two but I do not think it will be at Manchester United,' he said.

'I would be surprised if I was offered a new contract and even if I was, I would not expect it to be until the end of the season but by then I will have already made a decision about what I am going to do.

'There comes a time for everybody when they have to move on and I am prepared to play elsewhere.

'I think it will be good to experience a different dressing room. It wouldn't be an English team though, coming back to Old Trafford and going into the away dressing room would be too hard for me to stomach.'

The last statement is bound to alert Celtic, as Keane has made no secret of his desire to play for the Parkhead club at some stage in his career.

Although he is currently sidelined with a broken foot, the prospect of United without Keane is virtually unthinkable.

The fiery midfielder has been the inspiration behind Sir Alex Ferguson's side since he first arrived as a raw youngster from Nottingham Forest in 1993, making 480 senior appearances and playing a major role in almost all United's successes.

Even though he missed the 1999 Champions League Final, the £3.75million Ferguson splashed out to secure his services will probably go down as some of the best money ever spent by United.

However, it appears the United boss is losing his battle to keep Keane at the club.

When the Cork-born player first mooted his intention to quit this summer in the middle of last season, he immediately received a telephone call from Ferguson informing him the Scot would be the man who decides when the midfielder will sever his ties with Old Trafford.

Ferguson's position is not likely to have changed. Indeed, he will probably be reeling at tonight's announcement.

But the harsh reality is if Keane is offered a new deal, it would almost certainly be for one year only and then on a pay-per-play basis, whereas at Celtic would almost certainly offer a better overall deal.

In addition, Keane's departure has also been anticipated within the United hierarchy.

One very senior Old Trafford official confided in private recently that the player may move away, before eventually returning to join the coaching staff.

'I am not putting a gun to anybody's head,' said Keane. 'But my gut reaction last season was this would be my last year and I still feel that way.

'You have to learn and be prepared to move on. Life will not stop when I leave Manchester United.

'It might be an opportunity to go into management or coaching somewhere else and it is best to make a clean break because coaching at Manchester United doesn't really appeal.'

Keane has made no secret of his desire to follow former Red Devils' skippers Steve Bruce and Bryan Robson into management and intends to complete his UEFA coaching badges over the next few months.

But, interested lower league clubs who feel they may be able to attract the most influential domestic player of his generation, might be advised to look elsewhere.

'I don't want to look too far ahead because I want to play on for a bit yet but I wouldn't want to drop too far down,' he said.

'Your first job in management is an important one. I would like to go to a club with ambition, a decent fan base and some decent players.'

Meanwhile, Keane said his international future would be thrashed out with Ireland coach Brian Kerr if his country failed to qualify for next summer's World Cup.

The midfielder, who won the first of his 67 caps against Chile in 1991, came out of international retirement to try to help steer Brian Kerr's team to Germany next year and make up for missing out on the last tournament following his infamous pre-competition bust-up with Mick McCarthy.

His current injury rules him out of next month's double-header with Cyprus and Switzerland and also possibly any play-off should the Republic secure second spot in their group.

'I still think we have a chance to qualify,' he said. 'If we don't, we will I have to talk to Brian and see what happens but I don't want to cross that bridge before I get to it.'

I don't think it would really stun anyone, we all love keane but i think many united fans were expecting this to be his last season, so while its sad news it wasn't unexpected to me.

At least if he's definately going then it will force united into looking for a real replacement.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I saw Keane on MUTV. It was a show where fans could phone in to speak to him. He hasnt completely ruled out staying. He feels that if the club are gonna offer the contract, they should do it now cuz when the time comes at the end of the season to renew like how it always does, he might have changed his mind by then.
He kind of gave the message that sort it out now or I might decide to leave.

And if he does leave, its because it will be valuable experience for when he decides to be a manager.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

What he wants to do is become a good manager elsewhere and then come back to Man Utd. Which IMO is wise cuz then he would have developed the skills to do the job without trying new things out here and putting the club at risk.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I kinda have mixed reactions about Keano's decision to leave.I think its kinda a bit too early to send out a message that he leaving.I mean, hes the captain of the club and by saying that hes leaving at the end of the season might give out the wrong signals to his team mates. Its either they will say,"He's gonna walk away at the end of the season no matter how we do,sound like he dosent give a shit." or "Okay lads this is the captain's last season, lets all do it for him and get him a medal."For me personally,it'd be better if he made the decision at the end of the season and rally the team instead to win the premier league.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

If KeaNo Does Leave... i tink we need to find some remdy quick and i mean quick...... alan smith playing in dmf is not a gd idea... is it just me or wat... i dun tink he's really playing well in tat position.......

The rumors linking didier deguy Zakora to man u is pretty kool... the ivory coast midfielder from St.Eine Franch....... Hope the transfer season comes soon.. and hopes ballack and one more new defender signs for united... i was wondering if manu has the funds to buy players...? thought glazer said tat he's gonna give fergie soem cash to splash on players... or is it just me dreaming...?

Watched champions league match between Liverpool and Chelsea... omg.. i watched until i fall asleep it was so boring .... a bore match..... unlike man u vs benfica it's more of a better match......

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

January should be good you will defiantly have to go into the the transfer market then if he leaves for celtic in the summer. Im still suprised he has came out publicly with it so soon, It cant benefit the team?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I think Gattuso or Ballack will come in

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I can't tell if gattuso or ballack will leave their clubs. One can hope, but...

Arsenal v United with no Keane/vieira? Maybe they can start to get along ? Nah...

Any word on Obi Mikel? Has he had any changes of heart? I gues he could possibly start next season, unless smith really starts to pick up his performance.

And who else is there? I really don't know. :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Plenty of good players out there that can cover for Keane. But don't expect a new Viera/Keane/Makelele anytime soon.

We can always hope the loaned players impress. Otherwise all my hopes are on John Obi Mikel. I cant see anyone else doing the job for us. Cuz Gattuso is NEVER gonna happen. And Ballack isnt looking likely.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

John Obi Mikel will be coming to us in January. The is this new report on then skysports site saying that Chelsea have themselves to blame for not landing Mikel. They first send in their youth coach to settle the mess and that idiotic bloke was busy with his mobile while in the meeting, that made the Lyn director Morgan Andersen abandoned it.Can u believe that? Thank God for the professionalism of Jimmy Ryan, nice touch with our kit with his number 21 on the back too. So,hes coming and Ballack has yet to sign a new contract, what does that means?...i'll leave it to the fans on terrace talk.

Reds Track Valencia Pair
Martin Ferguson, Sir Alex's brother, was scouting when Barcelona entertained Valencia last week. The objects of his attention were believed to be visiting winger Vicente and his team-mate, Portuguese defender Marco Caneira.
Staff reporter, Daily Mail

Sir Alex has been an admirer of Vicente for the longest time now,he was available at the start of last season but we didnt have the budget for him.We have also been link with Caneira last season if I'm not wrong,a player highly rated by Queiroz it seems. Two quality players we should definitely get.

I still think its all up in the air from what ive read, the article you posted is from the 5th of May the newest bits of news i could find were:-
http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/sport/football/manchesterunited/s/176/176040_mikel_agent_fined.html
http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=312443&cpid=94&CLID=1&lid=&title=Mikel+attack+on+team-mates&channel=premiership

I cants see you signing Vicnte either especially after signing park in the summer, that would seem like a waste of money, Ballack has to be your man....?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

You're right about Vicente. WE have Park so theres no reason to go for him. But it all depends on how the team formation is used. Any other manager wouldnt bother with Vicente if they have Park but I dont really see Park as a winger but more of a attacking central midfielder.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Anyone seen the comments by Carlos Queiroz in todays mirror?

It says:

"If united fans don't like our style of play, tough"

and inside the headline reads:

"4-4-2: It's All Over"

With the quote "We will never go back to that formation..if we have to play with 10 men behind the ball, we'll do that. Our job is not to let in goals."

I don't know if any of this has been taken out of context (though they seem pretty clear to me), but this guy is really starting to annoy me now with comments like this.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

He said this a while back too so I'm sure he's serious. And it further proves the point that its all Carlos' fault and not Sir Alex's.

Yeah, that makes sense. Since Fergie doesn't have something like... oh I don't know, the final say in what tactics Manutd play! It must be all Carlos' fault.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Caneira will be like an O'Shea, he can play anywhere on the defense. But CB is his natural position.
Vicente is one of the best left wingers in the world. Above him, only Robben IMO. If you get him, it will be one hell of a boost for the team.
But they still should get first an DMF or CMF. I believe it's the priority.

Are you dumb or something? Carlos is there for a reason. He assists and influences Sir Alex's decisions. He has obviously convinced Sir Alex that 4-3-3 is a good formation.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

We're actually playing 4-4-2. And the score is cleary showing the good and the bad side of that formation.
