Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

We'll have to wait for the January transfer window then. To be fair, Sir Alex is making the right choice. We don't want to be buying players just for the sake of it.
People (including me) assume that just cuz he havent spent much, that we're waiting to use the money on a big signing. If Fergie cant find his midfielder then we wont get anything else.

We have 6 wingers (Rooney, Giggs, Ronaldo, Park, Richardson, Solskjaer), two of which can play up front (Rooney and Solskjaer), another 2 out and out strikers (Ruud and Saha), a striker that can play anywhere across the midfield (Smith).
And thats 9 reliable players altogether fighting for the 3 attacking spots in the first team. Throw Rossi in there and thats 10 players.
Chelsea on the other hand have Drogba, Crespo, Gudjohnsen, SWP, Robben, Duff and Joe Cole wbich is 3 less than what we have.

To be fair, signing a forward might have been probably the most stupid idea.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Im glad we aint signing nonone yet as who is there we can seriously sign that will improve the side? Only Guttuso can improve us as im a very big fan and i think he could fill keanos boots no problem. I seriously cant see smith doing a great job in midfield as i said earlier but people stil want to disagree. Alex is only puttinh smith in midfield to keep the guy happy, so he plays games and feels part of the team its not rocket science!

Anyway what do you guys reckon score gonna be? i reckon at least 2-0 if not 3-0 with both rooney and van nistelrooy on the score sheet. Plus hopefully spurs will do us a favour today and put chelsea to the sword!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Yea but what is the chances of Richardson playing against teams like Arsenal and Chelsea?

How long has Giggs been crippled for, and when is he back? Same goes for Saha and Solksjaer. Last I knew Man UTD had 4 fit wingers in Park, Richardson, Rooney and Ronaldo, I take it the other 3 are back from injury?

Chelsea have 3 less, but I wouldnt exactly say Giggs, Richardson, Solksjaer and Park are at the same skill level as the Chelsea forwards.

What is so stupid about another striker? Who have they got right now as backup, Smith who barely gets a game and Rossi?. Yea I can just imagine Rossi playing lone striker against Chelsea.

No point keeping people like Saha and Solksjaer who spend the entire season sitting at home, and how many games will Rossi start this season?

If Luque plays I expect man UTD to win 2-1, cant see Ruud scoring really.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Chelsea only really have 2 real strikers. And I'm sure people will agree that Rooney and Ruud are better than Drogba and Crespo.

As for the wingers, Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney, Park, Richardson and Solskjaer might not be as good as Duff, Robben, SWP and Joe Cole but at the end of the day, youre only gonna play 2 wingers at a time and any 2 out of Giggs, Rooney and Ronaldo are as deadly as anyone. Plus Park is doing pretty well already.

Chelsea only have 2 strikers but you dont see them buying another striker.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Don't they have Carlton Cole aswell?

Yea your right, 2 wingers at a time, and what is the chances we will see Richardson and Solksjaer on the wings at the same time?

Atleast with Chelsea they can have SWP and Cole on at the same time and still have 2 quality wingers, or they can bring on Duff and Robben and have even better wingers, Man UTD only have good wingers if Rooney and Ronaldo play at the same time, which can't be every game.

So Chelsea have 4 top-class wingers and UTD have 2 decent wingers.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

How come you have forgetten about Giggs and Park all of a sudden?

My point is that we can play Rooney and Ronaldo and bring on Giggs and Park. And we still have Richardson and Solskjaer left.
Basically, they have 4 wingers, we have 6. They they injure one or two of them, they cant sub both of the wingers on the pitch. We can cuz we have 2 extra wingers.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

My problem with the team is when either Roy Keane and Scholes are hurt, or RVN is hurt. Rooney can play upfront alone, and not badly, but the team is much stronger when they're both in. And the center of midfield doesn't really have back up. You have fletcher, who I like, but isn't quite the same quality, or you have Smith, who I like, but isn't proven yet. Oh and Fortune if he gets healthy. The 'old guard' will not play every game this season, they will get hurt, and then we'll see how the thin the midfield is. Hopefully next season david jones will come back rearing to go. Is Pique on loan somewhere? I was under the impression he was generally chosen ahead of Bardsley in the reserves?

Anyway, does this make us the team that spent the least (net) this summer? If so, that's kind of sads :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Well, is Giggs 100% fit these days?..same for Ole, can't remember the last time I seen him play.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Giggs isnt always 100% fit but thats cz he's old and who doesnt get injured?
As for Ole, he's been gone for over a year but he hasnt consistently played for years so we cant judge him yet. Sir Alex said that even though Ole is getting old, he hasnt played as much football as someone his age would have by now, which means he hasnt had the wear and tear a normal footballer has from consistently playing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Yea, and when you don't play you build up rust, like Ruud did, how shit was he when he came back from injury?. So don't expect Ole to come back and rip up the wings like he is 10 years younger, infact can he even play on the wings, last I knew he was a striker.

If Giggs isn't 100% fit he isn't going to be much use if Rooney or Ronaldo get injured is he?

Anyway lets see what happens :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Ruud was bad cuz he was rushed back. And the manager made it clear that he doesnt want to do the same with Ole.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

30 minutes till kick-off at St. James Park! Going to be a great game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

that bald referee was a cock.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

2-0. Newcastle 4 games 0 goals :lmao:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

It wasnt a vintage United performance but a good win nevertheless.Rooney won it for us today,a poachers goal and a superb assist for Ruud.Ronaldo was left unjustified today, most of the fouls were against him today.Only two players stood up for the Magpies today,Scott Parker and Steven Taylor.Big ups to them, goals from our forwards and yet another clean sheet. What more can we ask for,C'mon United!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

I get worried things still aren't going our way. Ronaldo's decision and then V. Nistlerooy's, what is the ref thinking? Especially Ruud's, becasue if he hadn't gone to ground he could have kept running and just tapped in. So logically, why would he dive? There's no reason. That referee was abysmal, I can't wait for some SAF harsh words. Poor Ronaldo, he deserves better from English referees, he had no protection whatsoever today. And when he was finalyl given free kicks, the ref looked almost dissapointed to have to give it.

Ruud's yellow overturned within the week? I hope so...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Looks like my prediction was correct i should of made bet on! Great result newcastle tried their best today but we were too good for them i wasnt ever worried. Argh the referees are getting alot worst in the premiership now its getting rediculous.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

that ref was horrible, ruud didnt dive, given clearly hit his feet with his out stretched hands, not sure what that fucking ref was looking at

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

They seem to be able to hold teams for long periods of time then suddenly fall apart.

Here today.

Against Arsenal

And last season again Chelsea, 0-0 HT, and then 4-0 Chelsea!

I dont get it, i think it may be due to Dyer and Emre being out but they should really switch back to a classic 4-4-2 like Birmingham because they have the ability to head the ball in their strikers.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Ruud didn't dive? which game where you watching?...contact was none to minimal. and even so he clearly went for the foul, he would have never caught the ball in time. i really get sick when you complain about the ref when some of your players were guilty of every dirty trick in the book. (ie Ruud and Ronaldo). ronaldo was falling over himself throughout the game like he had a possy of snipers trying to pick him off. not trying to take a dig or start a a flame war or antyhing. also its a disgrace to see heinze act unsportsmalike. not only this game but i've seen him act this way on numerous occations. apart from those three u guys played a good game and deserved to win albiet the score was abit flattering.

I completely agree but its unfair to have a go at our players cuz every team does it and gets away with it. Its almost part of the game now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

i admit that most teams do it (which doesnt make it right anways) but not at the extent of some players including those i have mentioned. im not pointing the finger at the whole man united team just a select few of players. just like arsenal and chelsea and most other teams have a select few of players that constantly try to get the best of the ref. now with that being said can u honestly name a newcastle player that matches the antics of ronaldo?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

But the amount of times Ronaldo isnt given a fair freekick kinda evens itself out.

And to be fair, he doesnt dive as often in dangerous areas whereas he's unfairly not given freekicks close to the box.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Ah come on, I know Ronaldo is a little cunt sometimes, but he was denied a lot of blatant free kicks today. Still, no complaints here. They all even themselves out from the times free kicks have been given when he's fallen over from nothing.
Heinze is the man by the way. Starting on Shearer= Instant legend
Rooney is just so much better than everyone on the pitch everytime he plays its unreal. Got to be one of the best players in the world already. The ugly bastard has everything, I love him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

The problem with games like today is that they send a message to defenders: the best way to deal with Ronaldo is to just hack him down. Sometimes they might get the ball, and he'll go down, sometimes they won't, but refs don't seem to blame them for lunging in on him. He's only 19, so his body can take a beating for a little while longer, but eventually he's going to have to leave the premiership, for his careers sake. I agree he needs to stay on his feet sometimes, but he almost never dives under no contact, just often under minimal. Like if someone is holding him off with their arm up around his throat, rather than trying to barge by, he'll go to ground. Either way, he does go to ground alot, but at least he doesn't roll over all day/act like he's been shot like certain expensive Ivory Coast strikers...ahem...

And Heinze being unsporting? I think he was just a bit pissed off with teh old Shearer elbow, which if you watch the replay met both his and Silvetres jaw in a 4 second span. I think Heinze's one of the best as far as sporting players in the prem go, he often pulls guys up, acknowldeges good skill and smiles alot.

And Newcastle suck. Michael Owen would be a fool. See ya later Souness...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Well the squad scertainly doesent suck, its just Souness.

I agree with you but to be fair, The injuries to Dyer and Emre made things difficult.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Given did touch him, and this being football all it takes is for one strand of hair to touch another player and he hits the deck like he was hit by a sniper, so yea it shoulda been a penalty.

The Carr one also, he should have been sent off.

I don't think Newcastle are crap, they have some great player but the manager is crap, plus the fact they have alot of injuries all the time. Definately shouldn't be struggling for a win/goal with that team.
