Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

feeder clubs?? lolz...probably way back when....wait...we haven't had any brasilian in our squad other than Kleberson who ain't from Sao Paolo i don't think....hahahahaha

and Welcome Back!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

nice even 2 leg score there, we played well, Heinze scoring two what?, good to see someone new getting in on the act along with Richardson

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Heinze was class as he always is, nice to see Richardson ripple the net with a scorcher. So sad to see Gary injured, he'll be out for 5-6 weeks, very unlucky, it's that AWFUL pitch again!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Ruud have any chances? Its such a nice thing when I'm surprised not to see his name on the scoresheet :)

Bad news is it looks like Arsenal and Chelsea found their games...bad news... :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

As I said before it was a mandatory game.We were cruising. They never really did trouble us except for a spell in the second half where they hit the post. Two great goals from Heinze, its been a long time since we saw a defender scoring with a header for us.Richie played well in the second half and topped it off with a superb shot from just outside the box.Ruud had a couple of chance that had gone just wide. We've picked up injuries in Gaz and Richie but I believe we seriously have adequate covers and its something not to worry about.C'mon United!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Not sure if anyone noticed but a lot Ruud's goals now come from the center and not all from wide areas. In the past is was just about crossing the ball in but with Beckham gone, we're playing down the center more often. So IMO, if Rooney was playing, I'm sure Ruud would have got on the scoresheet.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Hm that is an interesting find, but do you think that it is because of players like Ronaldo and Giggs dragging players away leaving space in the centre?

Yes its got more to do with our with our work on the wings, Chelsea also do this hence Lampard scoring so many goals from the center.

Our game has become way too narrow over the past few seasons, its something they are gonna have to address especially at home.

Good comfortable preformance last nite though, infact its been a decent start to our season 4 games played 9 goals for 0 against, which compared to last years start its a big improvement.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Thats true. Averaging over 2 goals a game is great news. We had a great defensive record from last season which we can definately improve on with Van Der Sar now.

So things cant go wrong atm. Except for that Gary Neville injury.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Whos coming in fo him a weekend, Oshea? How did Smith do last night?

Well theres always things that can go wrong, but injuries permitting we could be okay. Bardsley looked decent at RB and Wes can play there aswell, Sheasy and Silvestre we're missing out of defense so theres even more cover.

Smith was unimpressive in MF it was obvious thats he's just not a midfielder, its not his craft his choices for passes are pretty poor, also while tracking back he kept on taking his eye of the ball soemthing that Keano would never.

So with Keano and Rooney to come back, fingers crossed we hammer the barcodes!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

I think we all agree that atm, Smith can't play in Keano's position. But Sir Alex believes that its something that Smith will eventually learn if he sticks at it.
The reason why he picked Smith is because he seems to have the characteristics that are harder to develop. Its easier to learn how to be more disciplined, make better tackles, read the game, etc. But its harder to teach someone to put the type of effort into a game, or being more vocal on the pitch or bringing the fight that Smith brings.

Its true that he wont fully replace Keane but who on this planet can? But if you had to choose someone you mould into the next Keane in a few years, it has to be Smith.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

I'm beginning to think he picked smith because he's not able to get anyone else. Show me the money Mr. Glazer! Seriously, everyday I hope to see some kind of news, but nope.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Who else could you get? I only want Ballack because of his attacking threat.

We need to get out of this "new Roy Keane" thing, no one can get away with the things Keane did to make him what he is, that type of DMF are becoming less important to the game in fact they are being phased out.

Wenger picked two cracking players in Hleb and Cesc, neither are "hardmen" but they are superb MF players for me that is the way the game is going, less physical, more skillfull.

Thats why Ballack would have been good but only a stop gap, either Essien or Obi Mikel would have been excellent.

But for the time being the system we use should cover up or MF weakness and in every other area we have quality so hopefully our good start continues.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Or maybe there isnt anyone out there that he's interested at the moment, we've missed out on the best that was available but maybe, just maybe, the wiley old scot has got an ace up his sleeve....

Not seen much of the lad tbh, but yeah maybe the answer to our MF problem is already at OT...

Good draw IMO.

The teams are decent enough, we need to start playing against quality teams straight away. Strolling thru the group stages and then expecting the team to turn on the skill in the next round isnt realistic IMO.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

Ahh,the prodigal son who recently said Wayne Rooney wouldnt make it in the La Liga, returns.Lets see how he deals with our defence. We got an easy draw to be honest, only Villareal to worry about, maybe Benfica, not too sure about Lille thou.Should be a breezer for us,C'mon United!!!

Bloody hard game to start with bloody away at Villarreal!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

I think its a perfect draw. Not too tough and not too easy. Looking at the games, we can definately win the group if we play well which is good cuz IMO it was hard playing against the likes of Sparta Prague and then having to face someone like Milan in the next stage.
We need it to be fairly difficult from the moment the competition starts.

But first, we need to make sure that we win the game in hand in the league so that we're right behind Chelsea.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - So Obi is coming to OT??

what's anyones prediction on the scoreline against Newcastle, I'd love to say we could win 4-0 because that would put us ahead of Chelsea on GD, but maybe 3-0 isn't out of our reach, and I don't really think Newcastle will score with their complete lack of options up front
