Manchester United Thread

Well they had two failed attempts with other "long term" coaches which we know never worked as with Ferguson,,in fact those days are over... We all know this..United have a big name and still you can say or think different...but i bet united and liverpool are and long will be the biggest teams in england no matter what position they have in table..

100m EUR...for Higuain!??!

Surely that's a clue Pogba is off? Still feel like Madrid are going to sneak in. If they do, all out for Kroos!

Well, according to Sky Italia the Higuain deal will not be related to the Pogba deal. Juve can sell Lemina, Zaza and Pereyra to (likely partially) fund Higuain, but even then, Juve can spend the €90m clause for Higuain.

They're also reporting United's offer right now is €110m +10m in bonuses which Juve will not accept. Juve do not need to sell him, that is clear, but the message is quite clear that if Pogba wants to go and United make the right offer they will sell.

Where did Juve get 100m to play with? That's some serious money for a Serie A club. And they've already bought this summer. Higuain fee, for me, is even crazier than the proposed Pogba ones. Higuain isn't going to get any better or have a sell on fee one day, at least with Pogba you get that.

Raoila is just trying to get 2 big fees out of Pogba - 1 this year and 1 in 3/4 years time when he gets his dream of playing for Real Madrid/Barcelona/Insert other rich team here.

Because Juve are the only Serie A team doing anything in the CL they get a lot of TV money, more than anyone else, close to €200m over the last three seasons. Also, Juve bring in quite a lot because of new sponsorship deals and the fact that Juventus Stadium is fully owned by the club.

Apart from Higuain the money Juve have spent is about €52m on Pjaca and Pjanic. Alves was free and Benatia is a loan. Real bringing Morata back financed a chunk of Pjaca and Pjanic.

Juve are in position for a massive signing now because of great management the last few years.

Though personally I still think Pogba will go. €10-20m is nothing for United all things considered. Raiola is just bluffing like he always does and Woodward will probably be fickle enough to just budge.

agree, this is going to be fun

That is an awfull lot of money for a player who already was at the club and wasn't deemed good enough to play at the time...well done Ferguson!

I guess this is kind of unfair, everybody makes mistakes and perhaps the mistake is not Fergson's but Woodward's who wants to pay crazy money for a player that is still unproven imo. Of course he is talented...

Ferguson did not think Pogba wasn't good enough, he only thought it was too soon for him to be part of the first team. A combination of Raiola being greedy and Pogba being fed up with not getting playing time. Ferguson brought back Scholes and then put Fábio in midfield over him.

I think Fergie hated Raoila, and the posturing he was getting his client to do.

The memory of Pogba's time at United is slightly wrong, what happened was (as an avid youth team follower):
He came through with the FA Cup winning squad alongside Morrison and Tunnicliffe, and was absolutely fantastic. Looked truly top drawer, think that was 10-11.

Then in 11-12 he got his first team debut early in the season, but was mainly in the reserves. Where, to be honest, he wasn't very good. His level dropped significantly - he wasn't even the best reserve player that season. Fergie spoke highly of him and of giving him chances, but at that age he wasn't doing it for the ressies, so I think that pissed Fergie off.

When he left at the end of that season, Fergie said he'd known Pogba and his agent had been speaking behind United's back to Juve for months. It might be revisionist, but that's what let to Fergie being pissed off enough to probably never play him again. That and his wage demands, which apparently were higher than some established first teamers.

Basically, agent does right thing for client, screws club he's at to make loads more money. Hardly surprising in this day and age.

I'm done, transfers shouldn't take this long.

Someone is stringing this out, maybe sponsors, agents, media all that jazz. Makes me so tired of it all.

End up spending far too much time on twitter during the window.

Same shit most days 'in advanced talks' 'could be completed in the next few days' 'club gives player X deadline' .... 2 weeks later, nowt.

Football has developed its own economy, with its own inflation rate. While the real world is looking down the back of the sofa, football burns money for a laugh – literally in the cases of some especially offensive players. A socialist sport has become an orgy of unashamed, self-congratulatory avarice.

It feels hard to fallow any sport nowadays tbh (doping, corruption, abuse of the administration). Transfer fees this day and age are obscene. Higuain for £75.3m and Pogba for approximately £100m+ are crazily excessive.

I believe la pioche could help are midfield massive but £100m are just crazy. Perhaps I would prefer Matuidi for £30m (the new £10m).

Ridiculous...

If what I read this morning is true, Pogba and his agent are waiting for RM to make an offer. If United don't close this deal by the end of this week, they'll never close it.

Also pretty sure Pogba will end up in Madrid.
Good thing for United.

By christmasPogba will be on the bench and next season United can buy him for a discount price or might decide that he isn't worth it (which is the case IMO, but of course i've often been wrong).

Uh seems like the whole Real thing was a load of crap. None of the somewhat trustworthy sources seem to report it. Sounds like this is a done dealio and he ll be announced tomorrow. Whoop whoop.

Right. There is so much bullshit out there. All these website want hits so they will write almost anything to bait ppl into clicking. I think he's a great signing for United. Not sure what is ceiling is in terms of production but if I had to guess maybe 17-18 league goals and assists when he is in his prime.

Martial / Depay ------- Ibrahimovic / Rashford --- Mkhitaryan / Lingard / Young

------------------------ Rooney / Mata / Fellaini

------------- Schniederlin / Carrick ------ Pogba / Herrera

Shaw / Blind ---- Smalling / Rojo --- Bailly / Jones ------ Darmian / Valencia

----------------------- De Gea / Romero / Johnstone

Is that your squad this season, do you think?

Pretty much.

I mean Rojo won't be our 2nd choice CB, I think Blind will continue to be an option their and LB ahead of Rojo, Jose likes Tuanzebe who is another CB.

Alternatively I think their is potential that Pogba will line-up in the '10' maybe at times. but otherwise that will be it.

Wouldnt be surprised if Jose favors Valencia in the back over Darmian. Also, it is possible imho that Blind will get more of a free role through the middle with the enhanced protection guys like Zlatan and Pogba will provide. He is arguably one of our best long passers but obviously is relatively vulnerable. Now if this is truly going to be more of a typical Jose team you d think Carrick or Schneiderlin would be preferred. Haven't seen stats recently but I assume Carrick is still one of our most efficient passers.

Agreed re: Valencia. For the record think he's a great pro, but not convinced he should be a first choice RB for a major club. Positioning not great, all other attributes okay. But he always leaves his man a couple times a match, notably on long diagonals.

I hope Jose gives Schneiderlein a go. He's a class player, who just couldn't get going under LVG - hardly rare. Carrick is okay, but has two terrible matches for everyone successful. Was reminiscing over the great 06/07 season when he was fantastic...that was 10 years ago and it's definitely caught up to him.

Standard Zlatan. Scissor kick goal 3 mins into his debut. Some decent touches after that, little else.

Huge scary elephant in the room - Rooney was awful, despite scoring twice. Slowed everything down, unfit, poor first touch as always and caught on the ball continually.

-Mhikitaryan-Zlatan-Martial-
-----------Rashford---------

That's our best looking front 4 imo. We'll probably never see it.

Agreed. On the plus side tho.. Mata, Rashford and yes.. Fellaini :RSCARF:

It's funny if you look at our roster and you d take their prime performances from before we got them we got one scary ass team. Will be interesting to see if Mou can finally show us why we bought them all.
