Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm with you.

Ruud says that but I don't fully believe him or buy that.

He may even initially be okay with that and think that's what he wants but only time will tell and given his personality and history, I don't see it. Once he sits on the bench for 2 months and played a total of 5 games 3 coming in as a sub around 70th minute, he'll realize, he didn't really want this and start whining and possibly cause some problems with cohesion/harmony of squad and dressing room.

Still a great player though and I will always be a fan of his. And that's not to say he's a trouble-maker or anything but yeah like Ballack, he thinks extremely highly of himself and despite the old age, the ego is still big.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So Fergie has said we've got 2 or 3 targets identified that he expects to be 'fulfilled'. Interesting to hear him admit:

a. We're going to sign people
b. We've already chosen them and presumably tried to sort something out - so fingers crossed it'll be like 'the best summer ever' when we signed Hargo, Nani and Anderson more or less as the window opened

In that case, and given the various quotes associated with various players, I'm going to stick my neck out and say we've already lined up:
GK - De Gea (I want Neuer but clearly doesn't want to play abroad)
CMF - Rodwell OR Henderson (will only be one of them)
WF - Young (though I'd love a left footed player)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

United need a good keeper for next season and at one point or another all of the following have been linked and are potential candidates.

1. Hugo Lloris

2. Manuel Neueur

3. Rene Adler who people forget would've been Germany's #1 in World Cup had he not gotten injured but he did and Neuer took his chance and spotlight.

4. Igor Akinfeev (Not linked as recently anymore but still young and now VASTLY experienced and has the quality)

5. David De Gea (Young Spanish GK prodigy who I had pleasure to watch live from the stands at Vicente Calderon in January against Racing Santander)

6. The legendary Buffon who needs to ignite career and prove he's best again after a couple more difficult seasons with injuries, mediocre form, etc. He seems set to stay in Italy and Juve forever but you never know.. the right challenge, a huge club like Man Utd rather than Man City going for him and with his recent situation at Juve where Strorari was often preferred! He might just seriously consider it.

The question is, will van der Sar's replacement be one of the above or someone else we're not even thinking about?

Lloris would be my #1 choice and Buffon my #2 and Neuer my #3.

But Lloris would cost more than any of others as well. Much more in fact, I'm willing to bet apart from Buffon who would cost a fortune despite the seniority to others. Yet he will be worth every penny so Man Utd might just splash on him if OL get the ridiculous fee they're looking for probably.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ruud was one of the Premier Leagues all time greatest strikers. I'd love to see him back

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Pretty serious rumours in a few press sources today saying we've had a bid rejected for De Gea.

Interesting.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Youth Update

One of those Brazillians has been brought on loan.

Confirmation: 17-year-old Rafael Leao (born 6 April 1993) has arrived on loan (until 30 June) from Desportivo Brasil. He'll play with U18s.
Rafael Leao is a defensive midfielder, by the way. Please don't get too carried away: he'll play with U18s, perhaps Reserves too.

Also got a 18 minute highlight reel of the infamous Ravel Morrison.
MEGAVIDEO - I'm watching it@@AMEPARAM@@value%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.megavideo.com%2Fv%2FL2PHYPVJc485b5de483a0f0fd43529bc9dec30aa2@@AMEPARAM@@L2PHYPVJc485b5de483a0f0fd43529bc9dec30aa2

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wow, not wasting any time, Leao is playing today for the U18's, in about 10 minutes. Unlikely to get coverage before highlights on MUTV tomorrow at 16:30. Stupid non-broadcasting of youth matches...

Lloris is a brilliant goalkeeper, one of the best in Europe for me. But yeah, he'd cost a fortune, especially with Aulas who's a master at driving prices up for his players.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, exactly.

There is also Pepe Reina and Maarten Stekelenburg who are linked with United too in certain corners. I forgot about them.

I'm not a big fan of Stekelenburg and wouldn't be in favour of this move but in some ways, him replacing van der Sar as the current Dutch national team goalkeeper and another fpr,er Ajax player would be the most 'natural' transition in a way.

Don't think the Reina thing will happen either. Probably just press BS.

Lots of candidates then, interesting to see what happens. I don't know about you guys but I'm very interested in this whole search for #1 goalkeeper thing and how it all develops.

Of course there is even the slim but alternative possibility that a current Man Utd GK will get a chance to be #1. Don't see that happening though and in my opinion, that would be a bad decision. United need a proper keeper after van der Sar. Otherwise they will suffer just as Arsenal have.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agree, we need a real 'no 1' keeper. Lindegaard has been alright in reserves and when he's featured, but that's too big a risk to take. I think he's just a happy no 2.

I'd be very surprised if it's Llrois. Great keeper, but very little press interest.

It looks like the De Gea bid was real, so that really might be what we do. I worry about age, moving away from home and settling into Manchester, but who knows. Maybe he's a big fan ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's a massive Van Der Sar fan so that makes sense. He'd probably be my 2nd choice behind Neuer so I'd be happy with De Gea.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just occurred to me that Rafael, O'Shea, Evans and Brown are out for tomorrow. Not sure who is going to be at right back, but it's guaranteed to be someone that hasn't played there this season before. Sigh.

Anderson, Park and Vida are back. So some good news, at least at the top end of the pitch. I'm guessing it's going to be:

---------------VDS--------------
---Fabio---Smalling-Vida-Evra---
--------Carrick--Gibson---------
--------------Giggs-------------
---Valencia----------Rooney-----
------------Berbatov------------

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, that team looks spot on. Gives us the option of 4-4-2 with Giggs going out wide too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why'd we have to get West Ham away towards the end of the season?

Got a bad feeling about this game

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What. A. Match. Adrenaline is sky high after that. Pretty awesome performance, two mistakes apart. Thought Fergie made the wrong choice with Park, but I guess we need to get him minutes.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Missed the first half, turned on the game second hand "2-0" :((. I clearly decided to watch the right half :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

United simply aren't good for my health or emotions.

Part of the reason why I absolutely love being a United fan though. Never give up, never in doubt (yeah right :P), and results have fallen for us perfectly.

Just slightly more believable now that we'll finally overtake Liverpool league title wise.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Simply cannot knock the will and beleif, how many times do they claw it back. No matter what the ability Fergie must drill it into their brains. Unbelievable

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Love the fact half of the headlines are about Rooney swearing and not the comeback.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I still don't think the title is ours, but what a performance. We were immense in the second half, looked properly good. And that's with a central midfield of Carrick and Gibbo, and a back 4 of Fabio, Smalling, Vida and Giggsy!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just because its Rooney...it IS a big story...I mean c'mon players swear all the time when they scored a cracking or an important goal as such.

It was simply unbelievable how we still got that mentality of never giving up.Most parts of the first half I was thinkin, back then we had a team of capable to come back even from 3 goals down...can we do it again with this team? Man I was proven wrong...GGMU!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If the FA ban Rooney for swearing they will, in my eyes, simply have proven that they are corrupt. Not towards anyone team, but to producing a product worth watching as the season ends. They will show that they are willing to abuse their position to act in a biased manner to try and make a title race worth following. There is simply no other excuse.

If you'd like to ban Rooney for swearing after following a goal, I expect the FA to do so for all subsequent players who swear when in the heat of emotion, adrenaline and so forth. So if they miss a shot. If they're fouled badly. If one of their teammates doesn't pass them the ball. And I expect the FA to also have a dictionary available so that we can punish all other outbursts of emotion in any language.

Punishing a player for scoring a hat trick in a crucial match. Can a fan of any other team honestly say they believe this would happen to any of their players?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

And, yet again, one rule for United, one rule for everyone else. Wayne Rooney becomes, by my reckoning, the first person in football to be charged for cursing at no one. Lovely.

I hope he withdraws from the England squad. England don't support him, the FA don't support him - I saw f*ck em. He doesn't need it, all he ever gets is criticism anyway. And hell, all the pundits are saying England will be better without him. Let them find out. This country disgusts me.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I also applaud the continually chanting, during every minute of every match for the rest of the season of 'What f*cking what'.

I'm physically angered by the hypocrisy and double standards when it comes to dealing with United. Ashley Cole f*cking shot someone, Mario Balotelli deliberately punctured a youth player with a dart and not a peep. But Wayne curses AT NO ONE IN PARTICULAR and will likely miss the FA cup semi final.

You know what? I hope United don't play. I'd rather lose and deny the FA that revenue and their big day out.
