Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Interesting analysis someone did on squads from weekend:

United: 1st 11 cost £92.3m bench £40.8m Total £133.1m

Arsenal: 1st 11 cost £60.8m bench £5m. Total cost £65.8m

Chelsea 1st 11 cost £166.1m & bench cost £102.4m. Total cost £268.5

citeh 1st 11 cost £181.7m & bench a further £56m. Total £237.7m

Scousers 1st 11 cost £116.1m & bench was £10m. Total £126.1m

Spurs: 1st 11 cost £73m, bench cost £49m. Total £121m.

Gives a good illustration of just what a different league Chelsea and City are in.
Arsenal don`t spend because it goes into the repayment plan and that has removed our transfer kitty.OT is 3x bigger than most stadiums and I think the Emirates is the 2nd biggest stadium in the PL.

Evans did the US no favors, Holden is a vital player and will now miss the Gold Cup :TD::CRY:

Gutted for Holden, came back the de Jong injury and was looking good, seems like a nice level headed lad too. American soccer players seem so much more humble and thankful for what they have compared to most of their European counterparts. Makes it hard not to like the majority of them.

Humble as a small fish in a massive pond of big fish. Every yank abroad knows the value they posses and the responsibly to bring forth to the NT. The only time you get the country to notice the sport that the World supports n love.I wished Rossi gave the US a go before heading to Italy. Never know if he was a hit at MUTD he could of been compel to give a go or not

I agree Holden is a top US player that has improve lots due to the PL. He knows injuries is part of the game and he`s grateful with his career.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah this guy is impressive! Fucker just walked in the EPL and instantly became 1st-teamer and what a player! Talk about transition and adaptability and all that stuff people go on about....

Very impressed by him in only his debut season! Bargain for Bolton! Such an effective player and heavily involved. Real shame about the injury. :(

As for Rossi, he might be heading to Barca soon. :P Guy's a monster! It's clear United don't have a buy-back option on him at this point.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ah, Rossi. I bought MUTV just to watch the lad when he was tearing up our Reserves (with Ebanks Blake, randomly). So much class.

To be honest, we don't really need him anymore, or rather, not sure where he'd play if he was with us. Think that at the time the sale worked for everyone.

Just a classy lad, with a great attitude and a beautiful left foot. wish him all the best :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This guy is one of the world's top strikers now Ryan. ANY team could use him. But sure with emergence of Chicharito and Berbs coming good this season and Rooney seemingly being on his way back to his best, I know what you mean that you don't need him. As well as others like Welbeck and Diouf coming back from loan supposedly it means you're well covered.

Nonetheless, the guy is so quality that he could fit into and play in starting 11 of any team really. He'd give likes of Rooney SERIOUS competition and make place his own perhaps.

But yeah the deal worked out well for everyone. Especially Villarreal who got great service out of him so far and will now sell him for a crazy fee like $30M or so! Nice profit and good service.

Yeah exactly. If we still had him, of course he would push for a place, but there's no reason for us to spend on a 'support striker' type player, because if this season has shown any one thing it's that Rooney will never be dropped by Fergie.

Have watched a lot of Villareal this season, and Rossi really is a joy. A couple weeks ago he scored a cracker from an impossible near post angle, just jaw dropping.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm not sure Joe Red would've got the playing time here if he'd stayed to develop into one of the best strikers around so the deal worked out well for everyone.

I'm sure I read ages ago that we'd inserted a buy-back clause or something into the deal but I think that was probably speculation more than anything.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

£250k. I've only read that in the Daily Mail. Guardian and other more reputable sources suggest it's actually closer to £160-165k, which doesn't sound half as far-fetched.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The one time we could have bought Rossi was after Ronaldo and Tevez left so I doubt their was a buy back clause.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So Owen has joined Rio and Nani on Twitter. I know some don't like it, but I think it's nice that footballers are starting to use social networks.

Sometimes, it feels as if they live in a bubble that's out of this world. But with Twitter, they seem more like real people and can actually get in touch with their fans. Rio especially sounds like a guy it'd be nice to hang out with. On the other hand, Nani's and Ronaldo's look like it's ran by some PR company.

I just hope footballers using these kind of networks will be smart enough not to pull a Babel. :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

DagsJT,

They are the Glazers. They will do what they want. The fans? They’ll do what they’re told. :SMUG:
Liverpool took their mugs out and brought in mugs dressed in hero's clothing. Well, it still remains to be seen I suppose :COAT:
If , only clubs see the way The Arsenal does it`s running their mugs are on a tight leash n Wenger has the whip :P 7 years n counting :BRMM:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thing is Dags unlike your campaign to get Hicks and Gillet out which was black and white ours really isn't.

They don't affect on the field matters according to SAF and he also says that if he needs money to spend they'll give him it. some say that's all bull and some think we should listen to the manager whose been here over two decades.

Would I prefer us to have "better" owners, sure but then you don't really now what's around the corner and could turn out to be much worse.

Interesting couple of transfer stories, Angelo Henriquez is one we've apparently got a deal in place for.

The bunch that were seen at the Bolton game have been revealed also, apparently 5 Brazillian lads who are going to be farmed out to FC Twente.

The potential of "unknown" signings, pure FM Regen Muppetry :...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...olution-ran-out-of-steam-at-Old-Trafford.html

Your lot really need to step it up a gear and get those muppets out of your club.

At the end of the day, we're all fans of the club. We ultimately want to see the club do well on the pitch, regardless of what the financial issues are. Its not easy to tell us to boycott for the greater good, especially when what we want to achieve from it is not guaranteed.
We lost two top players of immense quality and got no replacement. We then pulled ourselves through against the doubters and saw new heroes being born at the club. How is anyone supposed to walk away at such a time and not show your support? Yes, theres no end in sight for the debts and problems the Glazers have brought but you cant blame the fans for not being able to fix a problem that they created.

So far the debts havent had much of an effect on field (other than our dealings in the transfer market). Im just hoping it stays that way while the debts reach a point where they're forced to sell to some billionaire. Its amazing to think we've survived this long as it is. Imagine how much of a profit making machine we could be if the owner didnt have the debt over their head?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

yep, biggest club in the world really and ran like a circus. Now, most fans just want another sugar daddy to come and compete w/ ManCity`s sugar daddy. I would love to see UEFA actually do something instead of threats. Not sure if you can really make Clubs be responsible . Manutd did win lots of trophies lately and sales of shirts must of rose up. Shocking to think so much success n the lawyers/admins are hired to hide the debt not help solve it.

Maybe, the new outlook is to get players like chicharito sort and rid out the berba ones. £30mil from £7mil makes a difference .If mutd wins that would really be impressive and looks promising . If, Arsenal wins that would equal a pill to solve daftness.

We dont need a sugar daddy to dig into his personal finances to buy big players. We just dont want to be in debt. We can generate enough money from the club itself to fund big transfers. Right before the Glazers came in, we bought Wayne Rooney. The season before that we spent over £50m on players such as Ronaldo, Kleberson, etc. The year before that we spend nearly £30m on Rio Ferdinand. And the year before that we spent £58m on Ruud, Veron and Forlan.
Nearly 10 years later, give us a £50m transfer budget now and we'd bite your hands off.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't want a billionaire sugar daddy, that was my point above about not knowing what we get.

Rune, those figures are pretty far off, About transfers lets wait and see what happens in the summer.

Im going by wikipedia figure. Not entirely accurate of course but, well have a look yourself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004–05_Manchester_United_F.C._season#Transfers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003–04_Manchester_United_F.C._season#Transfers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002–03_Manchester_United_F.C._season#Transfers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001–02_Manchester_United_F.C._season#Transfers

Some of the figures obviously include performance based payments but they still pretty much prove we werent shy on the market before the Glazers came in. You can argue that we also sold players during that time too but that would be cancelled out by the fact that we also sold Ronaldo, who's £80m could've (in theory) covered 3 years worth of sales considering how much we used to get back from selling players during those years.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Fair enough but the outgoings were quite big also, We've spent money since then also.

06/07 - Carrick 17M
07/08 - Anderson/Nani/Tevez/Hargreaves 50M +
08/09 - Berbatov 30M +
09/10 - Valencia 20M
10/11 - Hernandez/Smalling/Bebe 25M

So that shows since then we've brought in players and spent and all (Bebe apart) of those are "first team squad" players for us or others.

04' arrivals. Rooney, Rossi and Pique :...

Wow, do we still have that scout somewhere? That was some good work. Clearly not the same guy that spotted Bebe.

Daniel Taylor did an interview recently where he was asked about his Bebe attacks, and said look, I don't want to talk about it anymore, but I'll leave you with a quote from one of the training staff: "It's like watching a competition winner."

Magic.
