Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Shame Valencia won't be back for another month or two. we could really use his pace and power on the right at times.

It's really going to make or break our season imo. If he comes back as before he left, I think we'll sneak the title. If he doesn't, I think we'll run out of steam tbh.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that we've got £36m worth of first XI players that have barely kicked a ball this season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

To be honest without getting to ahead of myself I think the title is ours to lose now and Valencia returning or not shouldn't change that, our competition isn't that strong.

I'll be shocked if we win the title. We've been consistently mediocre this season, and scraped results. I've seen nothing (blackburn aside) to indicate that we're going to get any better, whereas Arsenal, City and Chelsea all clearly have another gear they can get to.

Sadly I can see us having a pretty poor second half of the season. Fingers crossed I'm wrong, but I've started mentally preparing now for a potential City title

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rafael should have been sent off in the first half for asking for a card for Palacios, if you want my honest opinion.

Not for a nothing trip, or for some falsely created 'two footed lunge' myth from the Liverpool game. Defenders make those challenges in every single match, he left the ground by about an inch against Meireles, was in total control AND got all ball and none of the man. Apples and oranges. There wasn't even a replay of it until Gerrard got sent off.

I just really get the feeling that Mike Dean was picked on by the kids at school, and so now he always favours the home team to feel popular. He does it at Old Trafford too.

Re: The Rafael two footer - If somebody jumped in like that against you on a football pitch you wouldn't say anything about it? Load of bollocks if you say no!

Anyway, he's an annoying little fucker who is constantly doing little fouls so I can't wait for somebody to stick him up in the air good and proper! :)

Na thats rubbish, Arsenal and City don't have another gear to go into if you don't think we do either. Unless you think Wayne Rooney is now permanently a League 1 standard player and Valencia combining with him won't freshen things up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This comment reflects so much of the mentality in many British fans. When English butcher center halves break players' legs, it's alright, they're not "that" kind of player.
But when a young Brazilian raises his game and starts annoying opposition by doing exactly what they do to him everyday, then some people wish him harm.

Mate, you're Welsh and all, did you like what happened to Aaron Ramsey? Do you really wanna see that happening often? With comments like that, one might think you do.

Rafael has been showing great personality and will become one of the world's top fullbacks. I just wished Fluminense wouldn't have sold him and his bro so soon...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm still not sure what the fuss is over that challenge. If he hadn't pulled out, I think you'd have a case but the fact he barely even lunged makes it a none issue.

If he'd followed through with his lunge, he'd have been sent off.

I'm not sure of this "constantly doing little fouls" thing either. When Rafael fouls, it's usually quite obvious and sometimes reckless. He's closer to Paul Scholes rather than Javier Mascherano in the way he tackles, although obviously his defensive game is far better than Scholes' ever was.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Berba is looking more n more like Ruud , he`s becoming the pouch master finisher. Rooney still not scoring  and got a raise of 200k a week.. Good Lord!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i bet United fans don´t mind the thing about Rooney untill Berbatov is great as he is right now.. but shurely that money is ridicilous to be paid for a single player... it´s unfair to others imo..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney was pretty good today apart from the miss, The team is more about getting Berbatov "his" goals right now so it works.

Nani reminded me of Ronaldo today, pretty selfish with attempts to score but got his goal in the end.

Still think City our going to challenge use Beachryan?

It's still possible. Yesterday and Blackburn have been the only matches in recent memory that we've utterly controlled (regardless of scoreline). I think we'll all have a better view after Tuesday - when we play yet another 'winnable' but tough road game which is where our problem has been.

I have to think City would do well to not play Dzeko wide left. Seems bizarre to get that type of player and shunt them out wide.

Re: Rooney - he was excellent yesterday. One missed header aside, everything he did was quality, and contributed really well to both keeping possesion and creating chances.

Re: Rafael's 'challenge' there was nothing wrong with it. It wasn't a lunge, it wasn't dangerous and it didn't touch the opposition player. It's like some microscopic straw that Liverpool fans are grasping to keep them warm at night. I really don't get it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If we'd been a bit sharper we'd have had an obscene scoreline. Birmingham offered nothing at either end, so 5-0 seems a bit generous to me.
Nani (worst Utd player on Saturday) should & could have scored several times. Not sure why Birmingham didn't feel the need to double up on him, as everytime he had the ball they backed off.
Rooney should have done better with his header, although that was his best performance since the contract issue. His link up play was much better for a start. What a fantastic pass for Giggs' goal, though Van Der Sar's hoof ball / defence splitting pass leading to Berba's 3rd was genius!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just been pretty thoroughly outplayed by Blackpool. Who look good and play with great energy.

But a midfield containing Fletcher and Gibson just don't have enough technical ability at this level.

Glad a put a tenner on us losing this...at 10.5 to 1 too!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That was more like it. Cracking second half performance.

Hope Rafael is alright. Looked reasonably serious. Is now at hospital. :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

:)) Never in doubt. Great game, definitely needed something like that to ignite our away form

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Incredible, just incredible. Peter Walton gave Blackpool fuck all in that second half, absoloutely incredible. Turned the tide. And that penalty, nailed on penalty, absoloutely nailed on. But no dont want to upset fergie.

Always been the way with youse lot since the Prem began, football changed that day. Corrupt.

Aw, schnukums. Isn't that cute?

Probably was a penalty. Almost identical to the one Ronaldo didn't get that knocked us out of the FA cup two years ago. But that's not swings and roundabouts, that's corruption baby.

Were you even alive the last time your lot won the league?

Funny question from a mutd supporter. He probably support Liverpool out of pure love n not success. CRUNCH.. CRUNCH..

Funny how Varney's 2 footed lunge at Scholes went unnoticed as well (same as the Palacios / Ronaldo thing a few years ago), but as that was against us we'd better keep quiet about it...

Think last night should signal the end for Gibson too. Nowhere near being a United player. That youngster Giggs looks a much better prospect!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

were you alive then?

Why yes, yes I was. I grew up in the early 80's - but in a far away place - so my introduction to the top flight was a whole load of Liverpool kits on the playing ground. Didn't get footie on the tele very often. Mother's from Manchester though, hence the affinity.

Sorry, does that mean I now have the right to keep posting?

Am sorry for being a bit petulant, but anyone bothering to log in, come over to another team's forum and spout utter, utter tripe after an emotional night deserves to be put in their place.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

C'mon, how petty is that? How old are you exactly?

But hey, at least you can't accuse him of being a glory hunter like a lot/most United fans eh?

Bloody hell mate, you used to come up with good debate, back up your arguments and be fair-minded. Now you're coming up with shite like that up there.

Anyway. As someone said, you don't have to like United but you have to respect them. Time and time again, when you're in a losing position (or even drawing), you manage to do pull yourselves out and get that win. From what I read, Blackpool definitely deserved that first half and you'd have thought it was over really and you might get a point if you worked.

So fair do's, a great comeback and thanks to Berbatov and the world class form he's in now eh? What's happened to Rooney? How did Adam play?

It's a fair point, I apologised for being petty. I would go back and edit it out, but that'd just make the last few posts really confusing!

As more of an apology, I'll give a quick rundown on the game:
Blackpool played the match as if it were 45 minutes long, whereas Fergie seemed to view the first 45 minutes as an opportunity to try a new, un-tested and non-sensical formation. Blackpool scored off two corners, first being Berbatov's slack marking, the second being off an assist from Nani. Still, both were perfect corners delivered from Adam.

The energy Blackpool pumped into the first half was clearly too much, as by about the 60th minute you could see massive gaps opening up. Giggsy started working his magic (funny how playing a winger on the wing makes us look better - note to Fergie) and creating chances. By the time we'd equalised we could have had 5, Blackpool were practically out on their feet while defending.

As to Rooney - I'm at a loss. He still has moments of utter class (did a mini trick to feed Berbatov between two defenders in the box that was luscious) but spends the vast majority of the game being pretty poor. And the biggest thing for me was the contrast between him and Chicarito. From minute 1 the Mexican was on the pitch he was finding space in behind the defenders. Last season and moreso the one before Rooney seemed to get a 1on1 at least once every two matches - I don't think he's had one this season. I know he's lost a yard of pace, but it can't just be that? Hell, Mickey Owen still gets in those situations. Really worrying.

Moreso when, as the Guardian tweeted, his personal wage bill is comparable to Blackpools. All of it.

Anyway, its bittersweet. Berbatov was excellent once he started getting service and Chicarito could have had a hat trick in 10 minutes if not for some pretty woeful heading. And Rooney played 65 and did nothing. So surely the logical conclusion is to bench Rooney? Mental.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

How many has Hernandez got now? The lad seems to be ridiculously talented and scoring everytime he comes off the bench!

8 in the league, 10 in total. Not bad at all considering he hasn't had all that many minutes.

My worry is that his tag as 'super-sub' means he'll only ever be just that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney seems to be playing like Berbatov did last season. Full of flicks & trying tight passes that just aren't working at the moment.
When Valencia was playing he'd be getting on the end of almost every cross, and their link up play was very good. Not that Nani is useless, it's just that his crossing mentality is completely different.

Dags - as for Charlie Adam, he ran the show in the first half. His range & distribution was very good, almost Scholes like. Not quite sure how much of that was down to us spectacularly failing at trying to match them in a 4-3-3 line up though, but fair play to Blackpool, they were all over us in that first 45.
As soon as we brought Giggs on for Gibson (thank f**k) and reverted to 4-4-2 we looked a much better side. The fitness played a massive part too as Ryan said. The 20 minute period where we ran riot was also when we managed to keep Adam quiet, but that could be a coincidence with them being knackered.

I'm hoping Chica gets a starting place against Southampton this week. Might also do Rooney a favour...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It seems crazy that Hernandez isn't starting considering he's proven he can score goals and handle himself more than enough, especially when Rooney hasn't offered much. Maybe Rooney just needs a rest or something, but then wasn't he off his game during the World Cup as well?
