Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah it is made for Park, Carrick and Fletcher as Valencia are technically gifted and we will need plenty of energy to cope with them.

Hopefully Carrick will find some pinpoint passes, would like to see Chicarito given a run out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Valencia been playing some very good football lately Mata is a handful . I`m really liking them their the Villa of 2 season ago imo.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd say we were kinda lucky to scrap that win, but we played nice defense for a change...but most of that was probably due to Valencia not having a person divert in those defense-cutting crosses they have.

Glad to see the two young strikers connecting really nicely for that goal straight off the bench. Always good to have hungry players fighting for it.

On a side note, has anyone noticed that Nani changed boots? (probably no one does, but i'm a boot-fanatic) Anyone know why he's wearing Adidas now? is it just tonight's game or he switched sponsors?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Chicharito lives for the big occasion. Great finish.

Few dodgy moments but we survived, and we've done what was needed. 7 wins out of our last 8 away in Europe, by comparison Barca have 1/8 and Inter 3/8.

Yeah he had those F50's on for the Bolton game as well I noticed, so used to seeing him in flourescent Nike Mercurials, it was strange.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Watched the game tonight and wondering what is the general Manc consensus on Carrick? Thought he was abysmal tonight...is he always that bad?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's barely played in the last few months, and he played like it tonight.

Did his job and then undid his good work in equal measures, for every interception and decent pass he made, there was a mistake.

That said, it's great to have him back fit, and if we give him time hopefully he'll find some form. I also happened to think he played well in the Community Shield in tandem with Scholes, so he has it in him to be the Michael Carrick that helped us win titles.

Having Anderson and Hargreaves (yeah I know, probably not) back can only help us as well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thought Anderson did really well for being out for so long, was too far forward sometimes but his general play was very good.

Great goal by Hernandez also.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

lol i said i would like to see Hernandez get a run out and boy did he take that goal well he is clinical. Want to see more of him.

Anderson was good considering it is his first game for a while at this level, Carrick was poor but he has been out too for some time.

Rafael is top drawer love the guy. That is our best defence for me :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rafael has been a great defender....i just hope that he's outgrown his old reckless self and has learned to be more mature and dependable...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The thing about Rafa is that...he always get cramps towards the end of games! He really needs to work on his limb muscles if he is to continue to play like he usually does!

It will be a close game tonight,Sunderland at home will be a tough nut to crack.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

can i just say that i am disappointed with how we played today?? was looking forward to more from Owen seeing how he was talking so much about not getting playing time and such...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We weren't great by any means but we never are after playing away in Europe midweek. Sunderland beat City and drew with Arsenal this season too so they are by no means an easy win and we kept a second consecutive clean sheet away from home so it's not so bad.

We looked much better when Berbatov came on as well, not sure why Fergie didn't start him though with the international break coming up.

He almost had to start with the absence of Rooney but still didnt. I think that decision might have cost us the game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Was a poor performance but a draw away at Sunderland isn't that bad, the silly points dropped at Fulham and Everton make it look much worse.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agree Sunderland is a tough place to go, and the way the played in the first 45 minutes would have beaten any team in the world. But, we had a few chances at the end and could have nicked it. Can't help but feel the problem is staring everyone in the face and Fergie is just too stubborn to act. Fletcher has been poor this season and Scholes can't defend. Meaning we're as easy as warm butter to slice through.

At least Fergie has realised that Rafael can play football, unlike his RB competition. Hopefully we can put John O'Shea back on the bench when the intl break is over. At least we'll be able to maintain some posession when we need to.

Oh, and if Owen would like to go back to Merseyside in January, I don't have a massive problem with that. Macheda and Chicarito look at least near his level, and I'd much rather have them learning as we don't win anything this season than Mickey Owen picking up his pay packet.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

My biggest problem with the performance on saturday was there was little to no intent to attack. The biggest teams no matter who they play will look to take the game by force and show their authority yet we dont seem capable of that anymore.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Forlan doesn`t want MUTD, he wants a high paying contract! MANCITY £££ 200k a wk. He wants a it now too !

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's always been very positive about the support he's received here, so I doubt he'd want to tarnish his cult status here by doing such a thing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He should go to Spurs. Would be good for both parties.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We don't need Forlan at the moment. Have enough in that department.

Just waiting til 11 for the results to come out, will cast an eye over em and see what is interesting in reality (not headlines)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Revenue – Up to £286m from £278m – Largely commercial gains, matchday down slightly due to poor FA cup and CL performance relative to previous year
Operating costs – Down to £184m from £186m – Big cuts in non-player wage expenditure, player wages up
EBITDA – Up to £100m from £92m – Reflecting boost in revenue alongside flat cost base
Depreciation/Amortisation – Roughly flat at £84m
Profit on disposals – Down to £13m, from £80m (Ronaldo)
PBIT – Down to £27m from £90m – We were more profitable except for the selling of another Ronaldo

Now the nasty bit

Net interest payable – Flat at £40m
Exceptional: Refinancing stuff – A ’one time’ hit of £40m
FX losses: (Not really important) - Negative of £20m

So, pulling all of the ‘real’ figures together, I get that we made £173m from operations last year, and spend £40m on payments, taking us to £133m of ‘cash’ type earnings. This year that is about £114m, minus bank payments of £40m and the refinancing cost of £40m, coming out at c. £34m ‘real’ earnings.

Even taking out the Ronaldo sale as a type of ‘exceptional’, given the refinancing costs, we still did worse this year than last year. If you ignore both super sales like Ronaldo and refinancing, we performed better over the last 12 months than the year before. Both turnover and operating margin are increasing.

I’m still terrified that we’re spending £40m a year on debt payments, I mean, I don’t need to tell anyone that is £40m that would otherwise be going into improving the squad/ facilities and so forth. Plus, we can’t really ignore the £40m ‘one off’ payment for refinancing, as it seems entirely likely that we’ll refinance again in the next few years.

So, in a nutshell – commercially and operationally we’re kicking some ass, but all of that gets wiped out due to our crappy debt situation. Bugger.ts:
