Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If im honest I would be shitting it if this was sometime last season but in football 3 months or even 6 months is a long time. Rooney currently this season has contributed 1 goal which was from the penalty spot and our attack has been fine this season, were not really suffering in that department because Berbatov, Nani along with cameo's from Hernandez have provided that (Yes our finishing off teams has been a bit naive but that's not down to lack of chances). Im not saying Rooney is rubbish or that we don't need him because hes probably the best player we have when on form but what it says it we can cope in that area without needing him.

Personally im more worried about us replacing Scholes (and if we have the funds for it even!) so if we were to sell Rooney and bring in say someone like Banega and no striker (like we did when we sold Ruud and bought in Carrick) and let the young attacking talent in house develop I wouldn't be that worried.

If we can manage to do both then brilliant but for some reason Rooney leaving doesn't bother me as much as Scholes hanging up his boots and not replacing him.

P.S Is it ok to start calling Nani World Class yet and being up their with the top bracket of players?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd take Rooney going to Madrid for Kaka and Benzema anyday of the week.

Then again we don't really seem to do swap deals, still think we should've asked for Sneijder and Robben when we sold Ronaldo to Real.

Anyway, better players than Rooney have been in this situation for us and we've always replaced and rebuilt, it's just whether SAF still has it in him to do it again.

Totally agree mate, great post.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

To borrow a phrase from Fergie, It's like water off a duck's back for most of us Utd fans.

Whether he goes or it all blows over and he signs a new contract, I'm sure we'll be alright. The vdS and Scholes replacements are bigger issues in the long run.

We've seen similar situations over the years with Rio, Keane and recently Vidic not immediately signing new contracts and have seen big names leave but other players step up to the plate, so it doesnt bother me in the slightest. I just hope it doesn't drag on as long as the Ronaldo saga did.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Fergie reading facts from some paper?

@OptaJoe Opta Sports
72 - Since he signed for the club, Man Utd have won 72% of PL games with Wayne Rooney starting, compared to 56% without him. Cheerio.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Eh ? The club and the manager have bent over backwards to help him in his personal life because he is a stupid idiot who thinks cheating on his pregnant wife is fine.

They make a vastly improved contract offer and still get rejected out of hand.

Another shameless mercenary. Unsurprising really.

The greed and avarice of the modern day footballer and the agents that pull their strings seems to know no bounds.

And he wanted away in the summer which may explain his lethargic performances. Truly a shameless individual after all his misdemeanours but then unexpected.

He is a chav. Without football who knows what he'd be up to. Macheda has him spot on.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It'd be knee-jerk really to turn around and start calling him a c*nt and saying he's shit but I'm tempted.

You wouldn't be the only one, it's all I've heard at work all day!

Get as much as we can for him and actually bother to buy decent proven players please, there has to be some kind of positive out of this, hopefully it's something like Dzeko, Aguero, Pato, etc.

In an ideal World, yes. In reality, Msrs. Glazer will pocket any cash.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So with SAF revealing all today is he in the squad for tomorrow and what's the chances of him playing any part, will be interesting to see the fans reaction if he is.

Theirs no return now for Wayne unfortunately, SAF feels theirs nothing to hide or anything to protect so most our fans will be like vultures until he leaves in Jan.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Where would he go? Are the City/Chelsea rumors just BS? Seeing as they're linked to virtually any player that gets paid over a million a year.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd be surprised if he played again for us to be honest.

We'll get shut in January and just deal with it till summer. Wouldn't be surprised if you were right Riot and Uncle Malc took all the proceeds.

Worryingly I've got an overwhelming feeling that SAF will leave in summer as well. He looks like he's had enough.

I think you could be right here, even a few years ago when he was supposed to retire at the end of the season he looked like he could never let it go, but now he just seems fed up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I hope all the United fans who joined in with the 'rest' in slagging Fergie off about this feel fucking stupid now.

Read on footie365 that there was an "odd" rumour, with maybe betting suspended, that he was going to sign for City on deadline day in August, but as nothing happened they all assumed it was just paper nonsense. Now though they seem confident that it was actually true but that it just didn't happen within the time frame and that it will go ahead in Jan.

But then his value will be even less. Catch 22 almost, play him and he risks driving his own value down with more shit performances, don't play him and his value decreases naturally, all while his value is decreasing because of the contract situation. A very messy affair, potentially.

Don't envy you one bit.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah you're right. He'd get booed as well I think, which is fair enough to be honest. In general I don't like booing and wouldn't do it myself but it usually happens because of a poor individual or team performance. For showing this kind of attitude and disrespecting the club and the boss it's pretty understandable.

Pretty unusual situation for us to be honest.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This is getting serious. I just found out. There is no turning back for him anyway? Is the rumour about buying his contract out in the the summer for 5 mill true?

He might go to City. I read his wife doesn't want to travel. I know it's Rooney but why would City want another striker when they have Balotelli and Tevez?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

City would absolutely, no doubt about it buy him purely because they can. It would be like having a more attractive, smarter, cooler older brother that's great with the ladies, and you suddenly win the lottery. You wouldn't have to woo his girlfriend with diamonds and pearls, but you've spent your whole life living in his shadow, so you do because you can.

I can't wait to hear Rooney's side of the story:

I was suffering, not getting games last year (played in every game he was fit), not surrounded by quality teammates (scored more goals than he ever has), not loved by the manager (just read some of the praise Fergie was giving him), not getting paid well (in negotiations to become United's highest ever paid player) and worst of all, I couldn't even shag the missus cause she was knocked up (alright, he has me on that one).

Oh yeah Wayne, sob story mate.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I have seen SAF sad before, never the way he is now though. He looked shattered in that clip.

EDIT: Don't mind him going, but please not Chelsea nor City.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Chelsea,Man City,Real, and Inter(their president wants a big signing) are the only clubs that can handle him.
