Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The media went into over drive yesterday when they found a similar page for Ozil (and the same with Benzema & Silva last year). It's been that way for the last couple of seasons.
It's a daft way of doing it, but apparently it's something to do with being able to add the transfer rumours to the site...

Not that we'd be complaining if we were to magic up Balotelli & Ozil... ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I love it. No one even knows what position this Bebe guy plays. He's that mysterious. I just hope he's not a striker, cause we're waaaay overloaded with some potentially very good players. I mean:

Rooney - Here for at least the next 5/6 seasons and definite starter if fit
Berbatov - Definitely getting another chance this year, 2nd choice
Owen - As far as I can tell sticking around on his low cost scheme, probably 3rd choice
Chicarito - Looking devilishly good, likely to move on up this scale or become super sub
Macheda - Fergie has said he's too good to loan out, so I presume he'll be here.

That's 5 first team strikers, none of whom can play wide or in other positions (perhaps Roon on the left, but unlikely given last year). Then we also have a few genuinely good reserves/youth players:

Welbeck - About to go on loan to Sunderland - what if he has a stormer? Young, english, Mancunian...
Diouf - Already scored once on loan with Blackburn, looks raw but has a respectable scoring record. Also only 22.
Petrucci - People that watch the youth/reserves teams have been absolutely creaming over this fella, if his injuries subside he's apparently Totti mach 2
Josh King - Already scoring goals on his championship loan, has played for the first XI and is just 17
Will Keane - Apparently a scarily good finisher, again, only 17.
Bebe - Yeah, who?

I mean that is a ridiculous number of players competing for at most two births in an XI. I don't get it. In Fergie I trust and all that, but unless this Bebe turns out as a midfielder, I'm not going to be impressed.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yesterday at the poker table with friends everyone was like: "Who the hell is Bebé?" Nobody kwew who he was. ManU did it seems.

I just read a bit about him.

He was a very poor kid, with no home, went through a number of foster homes and grew up playing football on the streets. He played in the homeless national team.

Recently he had a 50.000€ transfer from E. Amadora (2nd division team) to Guimarães. And now Guimarães profits big time selling him for 9M€...

What pisses me off is the fact that Benfica buys a million brazilian players per year and doesn't even know about the gems in our backyard... :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So I'm now hearing he didn't actually play in the homeless world cup. For some reason that would now feel like a let down!

Either way, David Gill has basically said we'll bring him over, keep him in the reserves for a year then loan him out. I have no idea what we're playing at.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He said he'd be with the first team!

"He'll join up and be part of the first team squad this season," said Gill. "I think he'll probably stay this year. (He is) a boy who has to learn English and integrate into Manchester United, and he's really come from nowhere in a lot of respects."

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

he didn't even get a chance to play in the Portugal division 1 and we bought him and is bringing him into the first team already?

Man Utd seem to have a lot of faith in the recommendation of Queiroz (sp?)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Good video that, showcases what type of player he is (looks a BEAST!) Seems to be a "Forward" Loosely, Left, Right and through the middle.

I think it's clear we have to many of these players, Welbeck and Obertan are players who play similar roles but if he has the creativity he could become that AM people want.

EDIT: Just found this, hopefully he can match the excitement

Bebe was signed by Estrela da Amadora last year, after they got relegated for financial issues. He played in our 3rd division and started getting the highlights on reports from watchers. He made the sub-19 portuguese team and our coach started receiving reports on him a year ago.

When we signed him, he was that typical young player with good qualities that could be or not someone to play in our first team in the near future.

What happened here, in this 5 weeks, was basically what happened with Ronaldo when Ferguson saw him playing agains Sporting Lisbon. His adaptation to the club was instant, and everyone could see there's something about him that makes you wonder he could be the next big thing. Not just a good player, but one of the best in the world. He mixes his strength with speed and criativity becoming an explosive player (obviously still raw but you know it's there).

3 weeks ago, our president, in awe with his evolution and capacities, renew his contract paying 3 times more and setting a buy-out of 9m euros, just when this sensations Bebe was giving the supporters (being already the key element in our first team), started flooding european clubs with watchers at our games.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

First time I saw his name was 2 days ago when Marca wrote Madrid was after him. Suddenly, he signs for ManU.

As far as I know from the media (Portuguese Press wrote loads of articles about him today) the guy is represented by Jorge Mendes. I think you all know who is this agent, that means a lot in football business.

Another interesting fact: is favourite number is the 7. Bye bye Owen! :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wow. The guy looks good. No wonder we paid so much for an unknown player like that. All of a sudden our future looks very bright.

To me this just means he's gonna want his client to become a great player at our club, and then he'll try to get him to move to Madrid in a big money transfer where he'll also pocket a chunk of the cash.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Seems like Ronaldo Mach 2 then...Portugese,relatively unknown, around the same price, plays on the wings and forward, has Real Madrid sniffing around before we went for the swoop.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I wouldn't say Ronaldo was relatively unknown in the slightest before he signed for United.

I know a lot of footy fans, most who know their stuff, and none of them had heard of Ronaldo until we had signed him.
Of course someone would have known who he was but he was still relatively unknown.

Don't you know, Liverpool were about to sign him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd heard of him as much as I'd heard of Quaresma, maybe I'm a minority though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought it was pretty common Knowledge that Ronaldo was a bit of a wonder kid....

Anyhow Fergie has found a new backup for vds

Well, in Portugal we never heard of Bebé until he signed for you while Ronaldo was already a good player in Sporting.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It says a lot when the Portugese football fans don't know who this guy is until we signed for him.....

CR, u can get the squad wall paper at manutd.com

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its silly to compare Bebe to Ronaldo, Ronaldo at that time had a reputation similar to someone like Hazard - All the tools to be one of the best as long as he fulfils his potential while Bebe is a complete unknown quantity.

If Bebe at any point in his career shows the ability that a 18 year old Ronaldo did I'd be happy

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But when you compare the two videos, Bebe looks better than the young Ronaldo. The only question mark would be how good were the opposition that Bebe was facing.

Its wrong to think he's gonna be a "Ronaldo-type" player cuz they clearly look different. Ronaldo was all about the tricks and skills back then, and you kinda get the feeling that he always felt the need to beat the defender rather than choosing the more effective option.
Bebe seems like a more stronger player. He feels more like a "Drogba-type" player with his combination of skill and strength, except Bebe isnt a targetman and more of a provider.

So the similarities for me dont come from the player on the pitch. To me its about where he's from, the timing of his arrival and the fact that he's such a raw talent like Ronaldo was back then. You can argue that Nani and Anderson were supposed to be the same but I kinda felt that they were players who already had a place in their previous teams and had already developed to a certain degree. I guess Anderson wasnt so much as Nani but I still believe we messed up Anderson by playing him at center midfield.
Bebe is a very raw talent on the other hand. He has the potential to be as good as Ronaldo but he's also ours to mess up. I just hope we learnt from Nani and Anderson and we dont stifle Bebe's development. And you can already tell we have big plans for him cuz we arent even gonna loan him out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rumours coming out of Portugal about Raul Mereiles. Don't know anything about him, but apparently a relatively mediocre box to box player. Any views?

Season fffinnnaalllly starting tonight. If Fergie doesn't go 442 I'm seriously going to flip out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Lots of Chicharito shirts being sported outside OT today. Apparently outselling Rooney and Nani too #mufc

Chicharito shirts apparently temporarily sold out in the megastore today. Having to get more printed to meet demand #mufc

Ben Hibbs (BenHibbs) on Twitter

Can't wait for the lad to make his debut tonight, hopefully he can make a memorable debut when he comes of the bench.

We'll start 4-4-2 in all games apart from top 6 and CL KO Rounds

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Can anybody confirm that the young brasilian lad,Dodo...has officially become our player?

Yeah, he's officially at Old Trafford, at least in my FM save with Man Utd.

I think he is a very decent midfielder, not a star neither a mediocre as you said, he could do a good job for you. Has a good mid range shoot, is athletic and very efficient. Meireles was one of the best Portuguese players in the WC.

Great exhibition tonight lads.
