Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hargreaves is back and is very good at set pieces.

I won't believe Hargreaves is back I walk out onto the pitch at Old Trafford and have him pinch me to prove I'm awake.

My theory is that when they release the training photos tomorrow on the official website we'll find he's not there, and that he's doing a 'special programme' but will be fit in three weeks.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He already made an appearance last season against Sunderland. He is fit now and has now had the tendonitis removed from his knee that were causing him to have so many injury problems. Just a case of building up match fitness along with Micheal Owen which they'll get in pre-season games.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I still don't believe it...tedonitis is a condition rather than something that surgery can necessarily fix. He himself has said several times that he can't understand why it's not getting better, even post operation (hence why he didn't play more than 90 seconds last season)

His (and Ruuuuuud's) signings have been my two most excited moments in transfer dealings, and I'm a massive, massive fan of his talents - but I do fear he's going to all Alan Smith on us (pretty handy before long term injury, woeful after it). Maybe I'll be wrong, lord I hope I am, because a 35+ matches a year Hargreaves of 4 years ago would be immense. Essien-like, but without the shot.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Sneijder has confirmed he wants to stay at Inter next season, so that's that deal dead in the water.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep, It would have been extremely difficult to get the current European champions to sell their best player, we've never done it before so it wasn't realistic. Balloteli still seems a possibility if were interested.

I hope we still pursue other playmaker options, Pastore and Ozil are much more realistic targets.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hargreaves is back and is very good at set pieces.

Owen Hargreaves has today been ruled out of United's pre-season tour.

Sir Alex Ferguson told MUTV: "The bad news is that Owen Hargreaves is back in America seeing the specialist. He won't be ready for the start of the season. I don't know when he'll be back."

The midfielder was sidelined between September 2008 and April 2010 and required surgery on both knees but did return to action at the end of last season. He played 45 minutes for the Reserves before making a brief appearance off the bench in the first-team's final away fixture at Sunderland.

There’s plenty of positive news for United fans, though, with the boss confirming three key men should recover from injury in time to line up for the start of the season.

“Antonio Valencia should be okay and Nani should be ready for the start of the season, too. Michael Owen is doing great – he’s doing all his work in the gymnasium every day. I don’t think he’ll be fit to go to America but he should be ready for the start of the season.”

The boss also revealed Rio Ferdinand faces a battle to be fit for the Reds’ first league test, at home to Newcastle United on Monday 16 August, although admitted it will be a race that’s run close.

“It depends on how his progress is over the next few weeks,” he said.

Meanwhile, Brazilian midfielder Anderson remains on track to return from a cruciate knee injury in late September.

“He’s doing fine, he’s working hard, but it will be late September.”

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought I heard from last season his career was supposedly coming to an end.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It probably is, He won't be regarded as a real option for us at any point.

Yeah I heard. Wish I kept my mouth shut now as I probably jinxed it. Gutted for the lad.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

you got to be kidding me!!! Such a sad news to see how so many of our players won't be fit for the start of the season when most of them already had such a long break...Something wrong with our conditioning staff?

And I feel really really gutted to hear Hargreaves out...Such a great player!! Hope that he'll be back soon and playing at his old levels....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Maybe its bad news but at the same time good news for bench and reserve players to get a start.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Think it's a huge shame, he'd of been such a asset in the seasons he has missed, his versatility can't be forgotten. Some of the games he could of influenced by playing Right back even, Bayern last season for example, instead of an inexperienced Rafael (Though considering Gibson played, i'd assume he'd of played in midfield), Ifs and buts I guess.

Can see this leading to his retirement now, don't know how he's meant to pick himself up after getting so close again.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The hope of Hargreaves coming back is that we need cover for Fletcher and as cover Hargreaves would be brilliant for that. currently were relying on Fletcher week in week out along with Scholes (this is his last year).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

"If he and (Sir Alex) Ferguson want me, it means I'm not as bad as I thought. United is a great club. They have not seen the real Balotelli, for sure I need to learn and achieve more goals. I want to win the Golden Ball in 2011. As for the future, I always say I don't know."

Interesting quotes from him, I think Rafa will keep him though and competing with City would be extremely difficult.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I still remember how he was intimidating Ronaldo.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Is there a videoclip of that anywhere Lami? Don't quite fully remember this....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't have a clip but I remember it very well, as Balotelli totally lived up to his reputation. He was tracking back and took out Ronaldo's feet, then yelled at him for a good 10 seconds for diving.

Prick. I don't care how good he is, someone that immature at 18 doesn't deserve to play for a club like United. I doubt Fergie has the energy to try to reform him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I used to despise him but people with worse discipline have been at our club before and excelled.

He's certainly got the talent, maybe he just needs a change of scenery from Inter in order to fulfill his undoubtable potential.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He'd be a superstar, I'm sure of it. Nothing wrong with confidence and a touch of arrogance.

He's got everything, Quick, two footed, great strike, great control, good in the air and takes a great set piece. He'd be despised by EVERYONE other United fans. Made for us I tell ya! :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's a special talent. I'd be excited if Man Utd signed him cuz I wanna see whether Fergie would be able to discipline him and I think he could. It takes a very special manager and a strong disciplinarian (and even then not all are cut out for it) to make a diamond out of this guy, something that is very possible but hard to do.

Sir Alex is one of the few I can think of who may actually have a shot with him in terms of helping him fulfill his immense potential. I don't think Benitez would be able to work with this guy. I see their relationship going the same way Jose's went with him if not worse!

I fully agree on this...We had Cantona before...then we had Beckham...and then Ronaldo...We need a hate figure to be illustrious again...Balotelli would be perfect!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Have heard it's all just nonsense from his agent trying to get City to enter a faux bidding war for him.

Again, not doubting his talent, just wonder if he's really a 'United type' of player.

At least if we get him it'd be one established signing this season...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We dont need a lot of signings. Just one, maybe two. If he was the only one then I'd happily settle for it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't want him anywhere near our club.

Disruptive, angry, childish cunt and more likely to stand there and complain than develop his capabilities.

Weren't these adjectives used to describe Ronaldo when he first signed for us? If he does come, I'm sure Fergie can change him for the better. There really is no one better than him to do this.

But with that said, i doubt that he will be coming to us as I don't see us making a bid for him. I agree that it is most likely his agent trying to jack up the prices and such.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You are talking a load of rubbish son. Is rooney not hot headed, childish and indolent - Punching corner flags after being sent off for dissent? Abusing referee's week in week out? Calling England fans disloyal after they forked out thousands of pounds only to witness him and the rest of the pathetic lot to choke. Was keane not disprutive and controversial with huge tempermental issues? Did he not get chucked out of the Ireland squad for complainng about everything and mouthing of to Mick mick mccarthy? Was ince not arrogant and troublesome? Calling himself the Guv'nor as if higher beyond the great man himself Fergie? Was cantona not violent and bad tempered karating ignoramuses out from the crowd for being racist?

If you don't want him anywhere near our club, then it must stand to reason that would have an intense dislike to the players mentioned above and must have wanted them to leave due to displaying similar antics, no?

Its amazing the power of the media has over the average ignorant town feeder. I guess it's easier to be false fed information and to be a sheep followeler than actually being capable of thinking for yourself.

The truth is Balotelli is a class young player who's had problems at Inter for myriad reasons. Most of the problems seemed to have their roots behind closed doors. However getting racially abused by your own fans in this day and age is utterly disgusting and justifies why a young man of Balotelli's calibre would always have his guard up. United players in the past have preferred to kung fu kick racists out from the crowd rather than ignore them.

We are due to have meeting with his agent soon. I'd love if we could pull off the deal for him because he is a top talent minus his the obvious problems due to the hostile environment he is surrounded in. Where unfortunately he gets no support from the manager, neither from his own fans home or away. Neither his teammates like him, due to jealousy. Reminds me a lot of Roy Keane in terms of temperament - Has similar fire and desire in his belly to be the very best. Just needs the right manager to provide guidance and support. Not Mourinho, who came out and criticised him in public.

Fergie is second to none when it comes to handling man management issues. He is the right man to bring out the best in the lad. Mourinho's ego and own childish temperament obviously clashed with that of Balotelli's.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I agree, like I said I'd definitely take him. He just needs to channel whatevers burning up inside him and I think he'd be class for us. He's physically ready to settle into the league staight away and I think he's better than Rooney was at his age. We paid £30m for Wayne 5 years ago so the same sort of price for a guy who is potentially going to be one of the best forward players in the world is something we should seriously look at. Rooney and Balotelli could give us another 10 years of brutal strikeforce.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The only problem I see with the idea is that I can imagine him being one of those players that will develop under us and when he's the huge superstar he can potentiall be, he'll say he wants to join Real Madrid.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Haha yeah, then we'll sell him for £100m and the cycle starts again.

Italian's don't seem so taken by Real and Barca to be honest though, they've got their own big clubs.
