Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Don't see how he'd fit in though because we don't play with 4-2-3-1 a lot of the time and that's where we'd see the best out of him, as the central attacking midfielder in the third band.

Otherwise he'd just be shunted out onto the left side and we've got plenty of competition out wide.

Like I've been saying for a while, someone like Hamsik would be perfect. A midfielder able to play in a standard two man central midfield and either in a three man central midfield or as the central attacking midfielder in either variations of the 4-3-3, which is why I don't think the likes of Sneijder or Giovinco are really necessary, unless we have a tactical overhaul, which would likely coincide with the departure of Berbatov amongst others.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Obertan will play more centrally at some point this season, behind Rooney with 2 other wide men.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd like to see Anderson play there, when he gets back from injury.

His performances at the head of that central midfield triangle have been impressive. Chelsea (away) last season and Roma (away) in his debut season come to mind.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I still think that if we are to play 3 midfield, Anderson will fit nicely as the attacking midfielder...

I've said it since he came, and hopefully i can stick to my prediction this season and he can prove his worth!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He needs to lose weight! I was looking at the 2008/09 photocall and then last seasons and his face was so much chubbier.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Anderson is being groomed for the deep lying midfielder role and starting moves and alongside Fletcher is the near future of our midfield.

I think the role behind Rooney is dependant on things, you can have Park/Giggs or even Gibson who can be a light Lampard in that role im sure but We could do with someone like Ozil who can play wide in a 4 man midfield as well as behind the CF in the 4-2-3-1.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I just don't understand WHY Anderson is being groomed for the deep lying midfielder role though.

When we bought him he was an attacking mid with flair and pace and we've fucked his development up royally trying to turn him into something else.

Wasnt he supposed to be the next Ronaldinho?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wasnt he supposed to be the next Ronaldinho?

He isnt exactly the next ronaldinho and never will be.

I mean,c'mon...he dosent have that mercurial touch or the natural dribbling skills like Dinho? We've seen enough to be honestly brutal about Ando.

He is just a very good central attacking midfielder if I am being generous.Lets see if he comes back to be as good as he was if not better after his cruciate injury.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The Ronaldinho comparison is silly, he showed some flashes of skill and good "Youthful" instincts at Porto/Gremio but nothing for those comparisons. His raw attributes are quite brilliant for the role a better comparison would Edgar Davids with potential for a brilliant passing game from deep also it seems their is a real lack of players in that mould and Anderson has the potential to become one of the best in that role since he's only 21.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If Fergie haven't forcefully played him in a more defensive role then maybe his skills wouldn't have been suppressed, imo.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Who said his skills have been suppressed? Were making him a much more complete player and you need that to play in a two man midfield (which we will continually do in the PL). Remember Centre Mids don't hit their stride till 23-24 and Anderson has shown plenty of promise, Im sure a midfield of "Fletcher--Anderson" would be sensational if Anderson can kick it up a notch this year as the potential is their.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It was a necessary part of his footballing education, he was used to having little defensive responsibilty and he was actually really good in the role. It's like when managers play young strikers on the wing for a bit so they learn how a winger plays and they can adapt themselves when they go back to the original role having learnt what kind of positions etc are better to take up.

I think Anderson's problems and lack of progression are down to injuries and his mental state.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nothing wrong with working on the positional discipline of a young player, particularly if they're going to find themselves playing in a two man central midfield often.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This the first you've heard Dags? The case started before the end of last season!

Wasn't looking likely anyway, fuck Real! :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep, hadn't heard of it until scanning through Twitter then. Dodgy stuff!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd rather Anderson stick to more attacking roles and concentrate on nurturing attacking skills and creativity. I've never seen him play as a second striker.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He can't shoot to save his life and one of his best assets is his long range crossfield passing. He's much better in midfield than behind the striker.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Like I've said before, we seem to use him as the man that kick starts our counter attacks, carrying the ball from defence to attack. That's not how I imagined we'd use him but that's how its been ever since we signed him.
He still needs to desperately work on his passing and shooting though cuz he seems good on the ball whilst dribbling.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Shooting is one thing which he could improve but his passing game needs to be the one he focuses on more importantly as most of the time we'll have either 3 or 4 players ahead of him whose focus is on getting the goals. I think how he looks physique wise when he makes it back will be important. if he's lean and looks like he's been working hard then it could be great season for him but if he's overweight then it could be his last season with us.

Nani then, theirs an article on the main site which says he could step out of Ronaldo's shadow this year completely, I think if we want to win the Champions League then we'll need him to step it up and become a real top bracket player this season.
