Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think the tactics just don't suit a player like Nani from the left, he's not the brightest and we play a sort of inside left player who drifts in and becomes a bit of a CAM/LM hybrid. One of the reason's I think Silva is a target as he'd be a great replacement for the current Giggs.

Anyway about Wednesday, I think we'll do the business as long as we go into the game with the right attitude. The key will be not to let Milan's midfield dictate the game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney's fit. And we're gonna be looking to attack Milan and kill off the tie according to Sir Alex.
I think I'm feeling a lot more positive about the tie than I was 24 hours ago.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He was always going to say we were going to attack, I wouldn't have expected anything else, still not sure Wayne will start.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well we all knew we need to attack, it was a question of whether the manager decided on the same thing. And with Rooney out, I would have thought we would've had to take the foot off the pedal a bit, seeing how we'd have been lacking that attacking spark up front. Either that or we would have been forced onto the back foot.
But if Rooney starts, I dont think there's any doubt that we'll be attacking. I mean, if we werent, he might as well have been rested again.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Question is, do we play the probable 4-5-1 and hit them on the counter, or do we play 4-4-2 and finally show some faith in Berba in big matches?

I'd prefer 4-5-1 but somehow think Berba might suit this match.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

think it`s the week for under achievers let berba get a hat-trick the ingredients are there...at Home...media`s doubt = hat-trick :SMUG:

Wenger`s post comments was he rather play Chelsea or Manutd well he said ManU  his lost in domestic must still ache ,but how disrespectful is that to Inter and Milan. Wenger must feel Inter nor Milan have a chance. Before anyone say he was asked though he could of said let`s wait and see ,but he answered w/o hesitation.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dont think thats disrespectful. I think he rather play a familiar team than one he doesnt know. The good thing from your point of view is that it shows real confidence on his part if he's more than happy to play us or Chelsea.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He was asked the question would he like to avoid them, he simply said it would be a good chance to play them to prove they can win. not really disrespectful to AC/Inter.

Still think we'll go 4-5-1 with Berba in the team and Wayne on the bench.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I have an odd feeling Park will score tonight. First time I've ever had that gut instinct. How bizarre.

Also think we'll lose, but hopefully progress. Fingers crossed!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dunno. I usually get that feeling about Park when we're playing away (and its against Arsenal lol).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think a big factor will be down to who plays at RB. Do we go with experience (Gary Neville) and risk him being turned inside out by Ronaldinho, or opt for Rafael who could keep up with him but not be as sound defensively?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Nev might be a good idea actually.

Ronaldinho isn't the most mobile of players, so we don't really need to be worried about him being done for pace, and as far as attacking goes (we should go for it from the off), there are very few players in our team that can whip a cross in like Gazza can. Case in point being the cross that Diouf shat himself for against Wolves whihch was pretty much perfect.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

His crossing isnt consistant anymore and can't be relied upon IMO. And he doesnt have the speed he used to so really its just experience that works in his favour.
So I guess its a question of how important we value his experience, cuz otherwise I'd personally go with the brazilian.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

With Valencia in front of them, either one should be fine against Ronaldinho.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd take Rafael, purely because of his speed. Ronaldinho is still fast and I just worry Gary could easily be outdone with balls over the top. Which that Pirlo fella is quite handy with (not to mention Becks if he plays)

I actually thought Rafael did alright, considering the sheer focus on attacks coming at him in Milan. Then again, if he hadn't tried to go walkabout we'd be up 3-1, so yeah I see the argument.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

VDS
Neville, Rio, Vidic, Evra
Scholes, Fletcher, Park
Valencia, Rooney, Nani

Our new midfield general will see us through - 'Jason' Park. ;)
Berba must be a bit gutted though?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This is perfect. Rooney up front, two proper wingers, Park through the middle, arguably our best defence, no Pato. We have no excuses tonight.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

United through convincingly.

Becks gets a welcome home and a great reception.

Real go out again in the last 16.

Perfect night really.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Story of our season. Can't say "I didn't expect it". We really are a 2nd tier European team. Congrats, you completely deserved it and like many Milan fans believed, the game was written off after the 2-3.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

good performance 7-2 on agg. was hoping for a RM vs Utd match-up oh well maybe they need to spend more millions to reach the next lvl :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Great result tonight. Park was brilliant through the middle. I think he's taken over Anderson's role here. Will be interesting to see who we get now. I think other than Barca, theres no one we should really be afraid of at the moment.
And another two for Rooney, both of which were good goals. Correct me if I'm wrong but thats now 5 in 6 in Europe this season, right? Thats only 3 away from Ronaldo's European best and 9 overall.

Speaking of Ronaldo, was I the only one that enjoyed seeing them crash out of the cup again?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I meant 5 goals in 6 games. So he has 4 in 6 games?

EDIT
Just checked, thats right.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Didn't really play in the group stages, imagine how many he'd have if he did?!

Ryan got his Jason Park prediction right! :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Can we get paired with English teams in the next round?

Just want to claim this as my influence on the first goal.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

haha, wow. What a match! But the Milan players did get really deflated right after Rooney's first goal. I thought they really needed Seedorf from the start. Their midfield just wasn't enough against ours.

Park is really holding out well in that position. Great game for the lads. But I do agree that an English team will be better than any other.

*edit* Matherto, did you see Gary's next two crosses after the first one?? SO inconsistent!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He is 56 years old to be fair.

Rafael's cross for Fletch's goal was SEXY.
