Rooney is at the best form of his life.
Hes doing the best impersonation of Alan Shearer so far and that can only be good for us and England.
Owen got a cameo goal...well taken one too.
Vidic is back and looked as he never left..we only need Rio back now to be back to our best.
3 nil and we keep up the pressure for Chelsea and place us nicely in view of the Carling Cup next week.

What an aerial threat Rooney has become, it's incredible. And great service from Valencia. The first one was probably one of the best crosses I've seen in a long time. I'm glad that Vidic's back as well.

If Wazza can keep this up and England manage to reach at least the semi finals, he might be a serious contender for the Ballon d'or award.

Good interview. I'd say Rooney has done nearly enough to get into the top 3 for the Ballon D'or, Unless Kaka tears it up with Brazil its likely to be Ronaldo, Messi and Wayne in the top 3.

Common mate! Dont take the piss. Drogba's a beast of a player..as good if not better than Rooney. If he was English he'd be getting alot more recognition.

They're around the same level IMO.

Slightly below the level of guys like Villa or Torres but definitely world class.

If Rooney can keep this form up for around 18-24 months, he'll definitely be up there on that top tier.

Drogba also failed in the African Cup of Nations, where you'd expect him to do well. He's also reasonably detestable in his attitude, whereas Rooney gets a much nicer ride in the press.

If I had to take one I'd have Rooney, but only because he's got another 5 years at the top, whereas Drogba won't be nearly as dangerous the second he loses his pace and strength. I think there's a serious case for them and Ronaldo being the 3 best attacking players on the planet right now.

For me drogba isnt on rooneys level...

wazza, as well as being a genuine world class footballer in his own right, also plays for the team...

the work he did when ronnie was in the team was 1st rate...

Disagree, Wayne Rooney has been a World Class player for a couple of seasons, currently he's become a World Class CF. He has parts to his game on a creative front that that the other 3 don't have.

He's definitely world class but I'd put him on a lower tier because he has lacked in consistency compared to the other two in the recent past.

If he carries on like this into next season, I'd definitely put him up there with the other two.

A good example is Forlan scoring a bucketload last season but not being able to carry this consistency over in this season, otherwise I'd have him up there as well.

On form, he's probably the best striker in the world, along with Milito, as most of the others have gone off the boil this season.

Fair enough I agree but given Rooney IMO is that good a player I think he'll maintain it and likely to get better still.

Were down to bare bones know for the Milan game. I'd like us to see Berbatov tried in that AMC Role, We tried it against Porto in the away leg and I thought it worked well from what I can remember.

I'm really worried about Rio's back injury. I'm starting to think he'll never fully recover. I even wonder if he'll be able to make it to the World Cup. Surely Capello won't pick him if he's not 100% fit.

Another header for Rooney. Its almost weird seeing him score so many. Almost scored a second but hit the post.

Great win for the lads. Lets hope we can build on this. Really gutted for Owen today. Brilliant finish for the goal. It was almost like it was for Capello who was there for the game, but the injury pretty much ruled out any hope for the guy. Real shame.

Amazing how subdued the celebrations felt, suppose the Carling Cup really doesn't mean all that much.

I echo Rune's sentiment in that I'm gutted for Owen. Having scored in the last game, he looked really up for it, scored with a typical finish and was looking good, and then his hamstring goes. Hopefully it's not serious because he might actually find some form now.

Rooney scores again, but he really did look like he was struggling today, suppose it's worth the trade off for winning us the match but I hope there is nothing to this knock he was feeling because we really are fucked otherwise.

Still, first trophy of the season and it's always nice to win something. Now for the league.

Good win today against a tough Villa side, also like people have posted already gutted for Owen, he finds some form and gets injured!

Ref probably didn't want to send someone off too early in a cup final but he should have at least been booked.
