Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This is true.

There's still time for it to happen...*hopes, prays, promises to go to Church every week and be a good boy*

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Little to do with pride, even I'd have reservations about bringing back someone who put in three transfer requests.

I'm sure he'll have considered it at some point though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Any combination out of Hargo, Carrick, Fletcher and Beckham would've made a tough 3 man midfield. Especially if it was Beckham, Fletch and Hargo. How do you outmuscle that?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Did Valencia just cross with his left foot? 'Cause I think I just saw Valencia cross with his left foot.

Would have loved to have Beckham back but it seems unlikely now.

Our 'hardest' midfield now would have to be a 3 man combination of Hargo,Fletcher and Anderson....but Carrick would have a shout with passing skills that the other 3 dont possess.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

 Been quiet in here for a while, We dominated the game but City got a couple of lucky breaks mixed with poor defending and ran with it.

Hope Rio/Vida are back for the return game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Makes no difference if Neville gets away with it or not, he's been pretty poor every time he's played lately anyway and there's no way SAF would match him against Bellamy or any other pacy left winger again if he can help it.

I thought it was a really good match yesterday, very close and I think a draw would have been a fair result but I'm happy enough to go into the second leg a goal down.

Don't really like to blame refs but I'll just say it wouldn't surprise me if City take the MOTM award off Tevez and present it to Scouse Dean at some point! ;) He was very poor, fair enough letting a few hairy challenges go without a booking due to the occasion (Giggs, Tevez, Evra) but allowing Bellamy to fly about like he did for a five minute spell clattering into people (the Valencia incident was the worst) and not booking him and then booking VdS for 'timewasting' on the penalty is just stupid.

The penalty was a hard one, with the aid of replays we can see he's got it all wrong and it should have been a freekick but he made it clear it was for the second pull, which is the one that didnt happen, Bellamy just fell over but on first viewing I can see why he might have thought there was one. Nevermind anyway. The defending for the second goal was abysmal, totally amateur from Brown and Evans and just highlights how much we need Rio and/or Vidic back.

Another thing, surely SAF will reconsider his view that Rooney and Owen can't play together?! As soon as Owen came on yesterday it just opened up the pitch for Wayne to work his magic and he put it in the best performance he has for us for a while, all that was missing was a goal. That weaving run and outside of the boot shot was fucking brilliant! Anyway, the way they linked up together was fantastic and I think SAF would be an idiot not to try them together again.

Roll on next week.

Though I'm gutted United lost, I'm still feeling confident about the return match at OT.

I wish Ferdinand and Vidic were back. We really miss their leadership. Evans and Brown are great centerbacks, but together they're not working too well.

I also wish SAF would go for a proper right back. Brown and O'Shea can be very good in this position, but Brown is being played more and more in the center with Rio's injuries while O'Shea will need to cover for Evra as well.

Neither Neville, Rafael or Fabio are first team material at the moment. That foul from Rafael especially was outrageous. What was he thinking?
And please, no more Fletcher there. He's just too brilliant when being played in his proper prosition.

I agree as well with playing Owen more often. If Berbatov is not on the pitch, why is SAF so reluctant to play Owen? He seems to be working well with Rooney, and yet he prefers to leave him on his own every single time Berba is not there. Plus when we're playing a 4-5-1, we always seem to control the game but can never win.

Seriously, what's the point of signing Owen if he's not even playing Carling Cup ties?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

To be honest Owen's movement is the only thing good about him from what I've seen. His finishing is piss poor, He scuffed another effort yesterday which was cleared of the line but if he made proper contact it could have gone in.

I think it had a lot more to do with our pressing towards the end, as Rooney found space to come in off the left, with Barry and De Jong ending up deep in their own penalty area.

They played together against Burnley earlier in the season, didn't they?

But yeah, wouldn't be a bad idea to try that against Hull in our next game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We have Diouf on the bench so theres no real excuse for not playing Owen and Rooney together while Berba is out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Damn, that's a huge blow. SAF should really go for a right back now. I honestly don't want to see either Neville nor Rafael sharing this spot for the rest of the season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Right Back? We don't need one at all. Once we get Rio Vidic back Brown and Rafael are more than good enough.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Personally I prefer Brown as a RB unless he's playing alongside Rio. As good as our young defender is, Evans really needs a leader alongside him at the moment, ie Vidic or Rio, to help tell him when to hold off, make the tackle, or take the ball. I'm not saying Wes is a bad partner because he isn't, nor am I criticizing Evans, but there doesn't seem to be as much verbal communication between them (as well as being prone to switching off now and then).
An example of that is if the ball is kicked into our final 3rd. Whereas Rio or Vida will deal with it straightaway (or tell the other to take it), Wes is more likely to let it bounce or see what his fellow CB is going to do, which usually causes unneccessary problems.

In more defensive news for us I read that we have a young Norweigan defender on his 2nd trial at the moment, as well as Danny Simpson sealing a permenant move to Newcastle...

Give him a run of ten games and watch his finishing improve markedly.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Exactly. There's a difference between someone who can't finish and someone who hasn't been scoring lately. Owen definately can finish, we know that. Its just something he needs to keep doing before the goals come.
We've signed him on a two year contract and he's at an age where his skills are gonna weaken over time. So wouldnt it be wiser to play him now while we can so that he's back to his best? If we let him warm the bench now, he's gonna be completely useless next season, especially after the World Cup is over and he doesnt have any motivation.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Right Back? We don't need one at all. Once we get Rio Vidic back Brown and Rafael are more than good enough.

That's what I would have said a few months back, but it looks as if Rio is having a vicious injury which never seems to heal properly. He's been back and off for the past few months.

That still leaves us with Brown and Evans covering for him. It wouldn't be too bad but now Vidic seems to be struggling as well, which means there is no right back left as Brown has to cover for him as well.

And I don't trust Rafael at all. He's good when going forward, but his defending is just a mess.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

In the summer we'll sign Maicon, Kjaer and David Silva.

And Diouf's little brother.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But why give him 10 games in a row(Could he even play that many in a row?!) when he just isn't good enough to warrant that. He's a good option off the bench but not much more IMO.

Likelyhood is he was a stop gap signing for either a new CF or Welbeck/Macheda. He'll be gone by the summer IMO.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Lukaku!

Diouf scored 3 for the reserves tonight! Wooooo!!

But then he got injured! Booooo!!
