Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The problem was simply the players didn't understand the rivalry and weren't up for it bar possibly Rooney even if that. Unfortunately modern day players don't have that though and every game is just another game with some other lower league opponent.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dont think thats the problem. When theres a game like that on, you need someone like Keano to remind the rest of the players what the game means.
We dont have a player like that in the squad anymore other than Gary but he doesnt have half the fight that Keano did in him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Gaz dosent have the fight, the fitness and the ability to perform at his best anymore. He should have hang up his boots last season when we won the Premiership.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nah he'll do it this year when we win the Premiership, then he can retire having been part of a historic four in a row.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

City game called off, Not sure if that's a good thing or bad, I would have thought we'd be right up for it after Sunday. :((

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's a bad thing.

Fergie would have teared right into them and had us really fired up and we'd have put in a decent performance.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He wouldn't cost even half that, Just them giving a "hands off". Will be interesting to see if we go for Ribery in the summer, Im not convinced he's Real bound but might end up at Barca.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He'll most likely go to Real but I'd like to see us make a real effort to hijack any Real or Barca bid.

He'd easily solve our left wing problem.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why would Real buy him though, Their struggling to fit their current players into the side. Also playing with no wide men either now. I can see them signing Villa though and possibly Benzema being up for grabs.

---Higuan---Ronaldo--
--------Kaka--------

Backups
Benzema
Raul

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why would Real sign him?

Because he's recognised as one of the best players in the world, and he's another big name signing which equals more shirt sales and more people watching Madrid.

Perez and the rest of those tossers don't actually care if the players fit into a team properly as long as they get more publicity.

Anyways:

Higuain/Benzema - Ronaldo
Ribery - Kaka
Diarra - Alonso
Marcelo - Pepe - Albiol - Ramos
Iker

Probably how they'd line up.

Don`t understand all this debt talk... what does this mean? I knew the large debt 4 seasons ago, has a new decree came out? Mutd won the lot w/ massive debt before. IMO it`s just old news since nothing new is coming out.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I hope this makes sense...!

Before the Glazers took over United, we weren't in debt and everything seemed good. When they took over, they 'remortgaged' the club to cover their outlay, and so the debts and loans they had to buy the club became the problem of the club.
With the interest rate on our debt, it's gradually crept up to a scary number. It'd probably be even worse if we hadn't been successful in the last few years...

I think the reason why it's in the news again now is that our annual figures have recently been released, showing that we made a profit of £48m last year. Which means that if we hadn't sold Ronaldo we'd have made a £30m loss. If you're not making a profit how are you meant to get out of debt?
Along with that, there was news that we're looking to take out a £600m bond / loan (that has a lower interest rate) to try and reduce the debt.

So from that, the media are speculating about Rooney being next in line to be sold as he's the only player likely to bring in a huge amount of money.

What makes it more annoying (as a fan), is that the Glazers also took a personal loan of around £10m to help pay agency, solicitor fees etc.

That's why we want the Glazers out. Think we'll have to pray for a nice sheik or Russian oil baron to come in and buy them out, otherwise it'll be a case of 'Can the last person out turn off the lights...'

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think the problem was that the worldwide capital market tanked. The plan had always been to continually re-negotiate the terms on the loan to take advantage of interest rate changes. However, very few banks are able, and clearly none are able, to offer preferrable rates on the debt the Glazers owe.

The debt issue does make some sense to me, as I would jump on any kind of investment returning 8% pa or so, which would be right in the middle of market rates (0%) and their ridiculous loan rates (16%).

Either way, I can't work out why we've not been using hte profits we've made over the past few years to pay of the principal on the loan.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think our fans need to all band together, go to Abu Dhabi and continually beg until one of the sheikhs buys the club.

We can't survive with the Glazers, that much is clear.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What's scary is that last season we won the league and the Carling Cup and sold Ronaldo to make a profit. How are we supposed to top that this year?

the thing is that 8% is "virtual". that 8% would be calculated over a total amount wich include all the interests already accrued so far.
so the effective rate (considering also the compound interest) is actually higher than that 8%... and it will probably be growing as fast as the current rate (i said probably coz i can't tell this for sure of course as i don't know the numbers).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It seems Fiorentina have managed to poach Ljajic from United! His permit didn't go through in time according to Phelan, so Fiorentina snapped him up for £6m.

looks like a payback for the vidic affair :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We pulled out of the Ljajic deal.

I thought he'd signed for Rubin Kazan, that's what I read a few weeks ago?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

According to an interview, United weren't able to secure a work permit by the end of January, so were forced to abandon the deal.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

There was a lot of fuss about it a few weeks ago when the news broke because there were 3 differing reasons coming from the club.

First there was a statement from a United spokesman saying "We had an option to buy the player but, having closely monitored his development over past 12 months, and taken into the consideration the young players emerging through the ranks, we have chosen not to pursue the transfer.".

Ljajic's agent said they had not heard from United and that the deal was still on.

Then Phelan said we would be unable to get a work permit for him so would not be persuing the transfer. This hasn't stopped us signing players in the past and loaning them out until they qualify for a permit, not to mention players like Diouf and Anderson gaining permits on appeal.

Sir Alex also made clear in interviews he was looking forward to Ljajic joining and at no point was it apparent that we hadn't actually signed him and just had an agreement to sign him and that we hadn't even began applying for a work permit for him.

There was a suggestion from Partizan's president that we were pulling out due to financial reasons (which now seems the most likely reason) which were refuited by United.

Good luck to the boy, we treated him like shit, parading him round Carrington and have him pose for pictures in a United shirt and then drop him without even telling him. Fiorentina is a fantastic place for him to go and develop and he will have a friend there in Jovetic .
