Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Must be said, it's about time we started putting 4 goals past teams.

07/08 it seemed to be our usual result, maybe we can start being more clinical from now on.

true. then again,in 07/08 we had a certain player who contributed to that output. lol

but definitely, i wanna see us being more clinical. our build-up play at times yest was superb..just the final ball or shot lacking. i'm starting to like valencia too..with his pace and direct play. just needs to improve on certain areas like decisiveness and he'll be real good for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Should be interesting tonight, SAF gave the journalists a right bollocking and rightly so about our young players. I think this side will probably be a mixture of first team and youth players.

Interesting about Berba getting threats from the Mob, Seems like that's been the reason for his November disappearance. Hopefully everything is sorted and he can be back playing.

Tonight will be a tough game but I expect Nani to perform, he NEEDS to for his own sake.

--------Foster---------
Rafael--Brown---Vidic--De Laet
Obertan-Anderson-Gibson-Nani
--------Owen--Welbeck-----

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

No Nani...

Bloody hell, spurs are fielding essentially their strongest side (which they should I guess) whereas we're fielding a combination of youngsters and just injured players. And Darren Gibson. Yipes!

Happily have stuck £££ on a loss :) 4-1!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Spurs first string against mostly our reserves (even Tosic got on! :O) and christ we made them look shit.

Granted they had a lot more of the ball than we did but bloody hell they were terrible.

Two nice strikes from Gibson, he seemed to be the only one who actually wanted to fucking shoot. Someone tell Berba, Macheda, Wellbeck and Obertan that to score you actually have to have a go yourself sometimes.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

+
Gibson - Nice goals (second was beauty, slick passing and lovely finish). Linked up play well in the first half, much like the Besiktas game but with better end product.
Vidic - Back to his best? Great performance, saved us 3 or 4 times in the first half with superb last ditch tackles and blocks, plus general all round good defending.
Anderson - Never stopped running. Nearly scored, went forward well, came deep to get the ball and start moves. Shame he's consitently inconsistent.
Kuzsczak - Made a couple of good saves. Defence seems more stable with him than it does with Foster. Kept a clean sheet.

-
Park - Didn't do a lot right. Gave the ball away, ran into blind alleys, should have been subbed.
Tosic - Why did he only get 5 minutes? The game was dying a slow death at 60 minutes, why didn't SAF give him a better chance to show what he can do? He would have offered more than Park did. He scored twice for the reserves last week and is rewarded with 5 minutes at the end of a game we'd already won. Really feel for the lad.
Spurs - What a lame second half performance.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Was a pretty dull game but we did enough. Great goals by Gibson, him and Anderson put their performance against Besiktas behind them and were our best 2 players.

Vidic was very good, just needed a run of games to get back to his best or thereabouts.

Kuzsczak does look much better than before doesn't he?! I think the difference is he seems less nervy which could be it compared to Foster.

Obertan was awful I thought, did fuck all for the entire game.

Overall we did enough and our in the semi's. :))

P.S :(( Shame about Nani. They think its all over...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We've pulled out of the Ljajic transfer

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/dec/03/manchester-united-adem-ljajic-transfer

The official reason is that Ljajic has failed to live up to the hype since he broke into the Partizan team at the start of the 2008-09 season and has not impressed United's coaching staff on his regular trips to Manchester to train with the rest of Sir Alex Ferguson's players. Tosic has also struggled to make a favourable impact, making only five substitute appearances despite being a regular in the Serbia national side.

A United spokesperson said: "We had an option to buy the player but, having closely monitored his development over the past 12 months, and taken into consideration the young players emerging through the ranks at the club, we have not chosen to pursue the transfer."

Was not expecting that AT ALL. Very strange. :CONFUSE:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well I'm kinda glad.

Tosic has done very, very little, so perhaps the club think Ljajic would do the same and from what I've seen of him well...I could never understand what the rest of you were raving on about.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dont know what to say really. On one hand I think its a shame and have read the news as a bit of a surprise. But on the other hand, if you had told me about the price tag on the kid and the "opt out" clause in his contract on the day we first signed him, I probably would have predicted this happening the moment we bought Valencia and Obertan in. And from what I understand, Adem Ljajic plays out wide most of the time.
Lets be realistic about this. Obertan, who most would agree, looks more effective right now and he only cost us £3million. Ljajic looks like he has more potential but there are already 8 players who either play in his position or have played out wide at some point without trouble (Giggs, Nani, Obertan, Valencia, Park, Tosic, Wellbeck, Fletcher). I hadnt even realised we had that many until I counted.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Pretty shocked and not sure whats going on?! I think financially were in the shits :((

Hopefully this all turns out to be bollocks but we'll see.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If this was a temporary thing then I'd be fine with it but the problem is that we're only making enough profit to pay off the interest every year and only a few million gets left over to cover the actual debt of £650million or whatever it is. At this rate, we could take another 20 years or so before its paid off in full.
I'm not sure if things like prize money is taken into account cuz apparently we're expecting to increase profits by another £15million or so compared to last year, which makes me wonder if thats assuming we match last seasons success on the pitch. Surely thats not the case.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Three things:
1. He's very good, very young and we should buy him if just for the investment.
2. Us pulling out of a deal will damage our reputation immeasurably.
3. It's still only the Daily Telegraph. Until the official website posts it, I'm hoping it's a lie.

Seriously, I've followed the kid as closely as possible from the UK, and he's class. Fast, two footed, great vision and pretty tall too. I honestly believed he was going to fill the Nani sized hole on the left next season.

Plus he's played in almost every Partizan match, scored a bunch and has a bunch more assists. If that's not living up to potential, I don't know what else he was supposed to do!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

sorry guys, its official: http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid={F9E570E6-407E-44BC-800F-4A3110258114}&newsid=6643712

But honestly, we do have a lot of players on that side, and did we pay them already?? I thought we paid for both of the players last year and just loaned him back. So if we didn't spend any money at all, it might be a bad idea to bring him in.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's not the way United do business though. We've f*cked around some poor 18 year old kid. Just more bad press. Whoever runs the PR at our club should be fired, this season we've somehow becomes less popular than ever!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Completely Agree mate, The lads looked very promising and has developed well in the last year. Feel for the lad as its extremely unprofessional of us just a month before he was set to join us to pull out.

It was only last month SAF said he was "looking forward to seeing him" So clearly he was rated a month ago?

The only conclusion I can come up with is either we can't afford him or were financially bad enough to need the money to buy in January. :((

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's utterly ridiculous, just come out on RedCafe that they were all set to interview him next week ffs. This is an utter farce. And no word on the actual website, other than that bullsh*t option line.

Plus Fergie isn't at the press conference tomorrow - it's Phelan - so I can assume no answers.

I'm so pissed off right now, I hope Chelsea use their old transfer policy (let United scout them, pick them then just buy them with more cash) to snap him up, and he proves to be amazing. And beats us. We'd deserve it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What a mess.

Also, this talk of Mourinho being Fergie's successor is now beyond a joke.

It's almost like I want to see he come here and mess up, just so everyone can see how overrated he is.

But back on the subject of Ljajic, I'm still trying to find a logical explanation for the cancellation, without much luck.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I just read somewhere he got subbed off against Toulouse as he was crying!!?!?

He must be devastated.

This is a total mess, we look like a cunt of a club. The official line completely contradicts everything that has been said previously and SAF has been made to look a bit of a tit, he's not doing the press conference tomorrow which may be coincidence or may be a sign that he is pissed off.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Extremely strange isn't it? Its shocking stuff from the club and we've made ourselves to look like Real Madrid. Surely even if we decided to come to this conclusion then we surely should have dealt with it properly instead of letting a excited 18 year old thinking he's about to join United hear from the media he's not cause we think he's a bit shit.

On the matter of Mourinho I think it will happen, I just can't see us giving it to anyone else. Blanc would be my preferred choice but Jose will get it no doubt.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I am as gutted as many of you are here.To do this is simply not our trait...it smells more of business in more ways than one.The reason our 'official club spokesman' gave is improbable.

"We had an option to buy the player but, having closely monitored his development over past 12 months, and taken into the consideration the young players emerging through the ranks, we have chosen not to pursue the transfer."

Why did our super scouts need 12 months to monitor a player? Are they getting old to notice potentials? Or are they good enough? The word option is also a farce here.It was widely announced that we had signed both Tosic and Ljajic back then but the latter had to be loaned back to Partizan for another year to gain more experience and because he was too young something like that. How can we not sign a player but loan him back? How can we have him train with us,take pictures holding our kit and even wearing it without actually signing him?
We apparently gave up because of young players emerging through the ranks, having the same ability as Ljajic...who are these players??? If we are talking about wingers here...we can leave out Macheda and Welbeck out of the equation because they are not wingers...we bought Obertan and Tosic, the latter havent got a proper chance to prove himself even.

One more question...will the same fate happen to Mame Biram Diouf? Its unlikely as he is much cheaper and older than Ljajic...and if his transfer is concluded,it puts Ljajic's deal into deeper farce.

This is a huge shame for us and I am sure will be a talking point for months.I hope to hear something official from our chairman or even Sir Alex himself soon.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

They're saying it's a work permit issue, that they couldn't risk not getting one in time. Didn't we announce the signing last January? Surely 12 months is plenty of time.

It sounds like a cover up for not wanting to lay out £10m on a youngster when he probably wouldn't get much game time this season (like with Tosic last year).

Mike Phelan did mention that it wasn't the right time to do it, so it sounds like it could be left open to sort out in the summer (maybe depending how successful we are?), but if that is the case would he want to join knowing he's already been mucked about once before...

Maybe the rumours about us 1) having no war chest are true, and 2) looking for a £10m offer for Nani have some truth, and then we could go out and sign him...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Clearly a load of crap.

Why give 3 different reasons for not signing him? And why let the player down so publicly?

I really think this is to do with finances. It could be that the Glazers have just told SAF we can't afford him, or maybe he's been told he's only got a certain amount to spend in the summer towards a new keeper/creative player/striker or whatever and so we've had to pull the plug on this deal to bump up the transfer kitty for that.

Either way, I'm pretty sure SAF refused to do the press conference this morning because he's annoyed about it all. He's been made to look a tit having praised Ljajic a few weeks ago and saying he was really looking forward to working with him and now we've cancelled the deal because he's not progressing (bollocks) and he can't get a work permit (Anderson got one on appeal).
