Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well there are trains from Manchester Victoria and Oxford Road/Picadilly that take you to Liverpool Lime Street, and from there I assume you can get a train or something to the Speke Airport.

On the OR/Picadilly line, it'll take you to the stop for the airport, but I can't remember what it was called.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

 At least he's honest. You expect performance's like that from Evra though. Best LB in the World, FACHT!

On Owen I think we'll have to see how he does on Wednesday but you lot are right, he didn't really get a "sitter" on Saturday. Thing is Owen is a player that needs a lot of game time and with Rooney and Berba ahead of him he's not going to get that unless one gets injured.

ss4_goku, I doubt you'll find it hard to get tickets, OT has hardly sold out this season. Enjoy the visit and game :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's right though. You don't replay games, simple as. Teams lose every week because of controversial decisions. They don't get replays, so why should it be different here? Hell, I think United got robbed against Chelsea, should United be allowed to play again? Answer's no. But that's off topic.

I'm hoping we'll get to see Obertan for this CL game. I really want to see more for him. The fact that he's joined the first team as soon as he got back from injury is making me confident that he's good player. Usually when SAF buy players then puts them in the reserve or loans them, they end up being disappointing.

I wonder if Nani will play as well. It's been a while since we've seen him play.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think the CL will be a bit of a carling cup like team. I expect Anderson, Nani, Obertan, Macheda and Welbeck to all feature in some capacity. Looking forward to it to be honest!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

On a side note...I think the reason to why Sir Alex is brushing off buying new players in January is because we already have two new players joining us by then...Mame Biram Diouf and the highly rated and expected Adem Ljajic.

Those two should boost our attacking options.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think I've got a 'Manucho part deux' about Diouf, which could be completely unfounded. Not seen enough of him to have any idea whatsoever.

Have seen bits of Ljajic and he is very good, for an unproven 18 year old. He's not first team material yet, or if he is not reliable. Will be at least a year or so.

I think we'll bolster in January, regardless of what Fergie has said. If Rio really is buggered, then we need another centre back. And I could see us picking up a relatively unknown striker.

I'm still pissed as all hell Ruud is now available, would have had him over Owen any day of the week (on a free).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't see why we would need another center back. We've got Evans and Brown to cover for Ferdinand and Vidic. Plus O'Shea can play there with Rafael, Fabio or Neville as right back.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

with Da Leat (sp?) also in the ranks, we are fine with CB back-up. Isn't Evans' brother playing for us as well? thought he was a nice prospect too.

So i don't think we need more CBs, nor strikers. I really don't think that we'll be having much addition in January. We just need time for the prospects to grow.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

De Laet is a rubbish centre back, we'd play Cathcart over him (good RB mind). The onyl issue I can see is if Rio is perma-crocked - with respect to Brown and O'Shea they're not world class centre backs. And Evans is still 21. I'd prefer to have someone truly special in there next to Vida during the run in...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Brown's done OK there so far.

Looks like he's finally getting his fitness levels up to match standard.

I can't see us buying another established partner for Vidic, I think Fergie has faith in Rio recovering from his injury problems.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agreed defensively were fine. Concerning Diouf it would be easy to right him off but let's see what he brings first. Ljajic is more depended on what SAF makes of him. could get given a similar role to Obertan as a late sub or remain in the reserves for the remainder of the season.

I think if we buy we'll buy established player, SAF Has said the players we've looked at the clubs have valued them at 50M odd so that gives us a idea of the likes were looking at.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah I agree, 50m quotes mean a relatively small number - likely Benzema, Ribery, Augero, Villa and maybe Silva. Can't really think of many others we'd be looking at with prices like that! Which at least shows that Fergie still knows talent.

What do you guys think though? We're second in the league, through to the CL knockouts but also relying on some old talent. Is splashing out 50m euros on unproven talent the best way forward? Or should we wait it out, and hope that City/Chelsea/Madrid stop distorting the market?

I really don't know.

I agree with the first part.

However, from everything I've seen of Ljajic, I haven't seen what everyone else is raving about. For me he looks even more nervous on the ball that Obertan does (at times), and he's only playing in the Serbian league at the minute, he'll probably shit himself at Old Trafford.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Carlitos Tevez...a man who went looking for a starting place in a big team...only to be recognized by his rookie manager as an impact sub.
HA HA HAAA!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The whole move to Man City turned out to be a bigger loss for him than it was for us so I'm not too bothered anymore to be honest.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

ok guys, here is the deal: if moscow plays draw against wolfsburg, our game will be a nice experience for your young players and we will share the points. if moscow wins, you better let us win and we will wish you the best for your last game in wolfsburg. and if wolfsburg wins, well, then do whatever you want unless you keep it under 8. so, what do you think? :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

@ Ernestito - you don't injure any of our guys and it's a deal!
;)

I think it should be a fun match, open and attacking. We're going to field some youngsters, so should be chances in it.

Looking forward to it...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I just hope he's back alonside Rio. Imagine the boost our defence can get.

As for future transfers, I think the only teams that can really out bid us is Chelsea, Madrid and Man City. So with Chelsea's ban next year and Real having no money left (especially if they tie up the Ribery deal), that just leaves Man City to compete with for all the top names.
Like some of you said at the start of the season, no one wins 4 titles in a row (no one really wins 3 unless its us ) so I've kinda kept my hopes down this year. Its next year that we're gonna need a big signing or something to keep us at the top.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Chelsea's ban has been lifted mate and apparently they've already sorted out a deal for Aguero.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The ban has only been suspended till next year because of the appeal as far as I'm aware.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think he means in the summer, when their ban will be reinstated until their appeal.

I just don't look out on world football right now and see a name I think could realistically both a. come to United and love it and b. be the panacea to our deficiencies.

There are only a handful of players that I really want, and none will come:
Essien, Torres, Ronaldo, Pato.

So even with all the spending power in the world...we might have no one to spend it on!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agreed to some extent but the main point is do we let our younger players develop into top class players or just buy big instead of waiting. I'd say CM and the flanks are our weaker area's but even then we've got Fletcher whose developing into a great player, Carrick whose a good player and Anderson a potential great player. The wings we just signed Valencia and have the likes of Nani, Obertan and Ljajic (maybe) who can possibly become great players.

Saying that Giggs and Scholes are on their last legs and maybe we need to replace them anyway within the Squad. If we do buy then I'd be happy with one of Gourcuff or Hamsik, Can't really see any winger out their that I'd say would be better than what we've already got bar Ribery.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not sure how we lost really. Anderson was quite awful, but still we could and should have won that match. And how did that ref not give a penalty for that foul on Evra? I guess it's impossible to have a football match without these kind of mistakes happening.

On the positive point, I'm happy to see Park back in the team. I think he's a wonderful player. Obertan looked very promising as well, even though his final ball was disappointing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

As one of the more experienced players of the team, he should have stood out a lot more.

Obertan was great though. For a winger, he kept the ball very well and found a team mate with a lot of the passes he made, his crossing is hit and miss atm though.

Should have had a penalty, defender made no attempt to play the ball, just stuck his arm around Evra.

Owen did nothing apart from when he cleverly played in Anderson at the end.

Carrick came on and played worse than Gibson.

But there were some signs of a good understanding developing between Macheda and Welbeck up front.

Rafael looked uncomfortable at left back though, would have been a good chance for De Laet to get some CL experience but whatever.

All in all, some of the youngsters outshone the experienced players tonight but against such a negative team, we needed someone like Scholes to come on and play some penetrative passing but still some positives came out of this.
