Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That was about the longest second half ever.
Our defence got a great workout for the last 30 minutes or so.
Unlucky to have conceded that goal.
I do not know how longer can Ryan Giggs keeps his form up.Along, with Berbatov,he was the only creative spark we have today. The rest are just putting on regular shifts I think.
It was a priceless win nonethless as it puts up on top today, back where we belong.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Giggs, Berbatov and Valencia were the standout performers.

There was great chemistry between Berba and Owen, just as we expected.

It's astonishing that despite losing a lot of his physical traits that made him such a threat in years gone by, Giggsy's football brain is much much improved than in his past, it's like the two set of attributes have gone in opposite directions during the last few years. Add to the fact that he's now found a high level of consistency, it's almost baffling.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Were awesome for about 70 minutes but should have scored more. Let them back into really, Worried about Rio at the moment.

Berbatov, Giggs and Valencia were awesome. Owen needs to find some confidence, Should have got a couple.

Back to the top we go! :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Imagine how awesome we'd be if everyone was on the same wavelength as Berba. He's just too cool on the ball.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

They'd have to extend the length of a match from 90 minutes to 90 years though because it'd all be done in super silky slow motion.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Giggsy at the moment is just as about as cool and composed as Berba on the ball.He has lost speed but defenders still fear him for his short bursts that can still send them backpedaling inside out.

Anyone thinks that Anderson is still holding back on his skills? He made me laugh a few times last night playing safe on the ball and with his runs instead of looking for that killer pass or burst into the box with a pot shot at goal.

Rio can recover his form back like all defenders could. He isnt getting any younger now at 30.He hasnt got real speed to begin with but he makes it all up with astute timing and positioning.John Terry had a real bad patch back then too until he recovers his form by playing it simple and its no difference for Rio.Still one of the best centrebacks in the world to me.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's a shame we aren't gonna see more of Berba and Owen together.

Just on the evidence of one game you can see it works far better than Berba and Rooney.

We should just play all three.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Owens making it easier for SAF by not taking his chances. If he picked up a hattrick and looked sharp in the box then maybe we'd have a (good) problem. As it is though Rooney is our main goal threat and Berba is on form.

By the way when does it get reasonable for us to start our "Giggs 2010 Ballon D'or" campaign? He was great last year..hes got even better this term

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If he carries on like this through the group stages and into the knockouts of the CL then we might seriously have a case here.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah but it's mostly on the case of last year surely?

There's no chance in hell he'll get it really, it's probably already been decided that it'll be Messi.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What are people thinking for tonight then?

Will he play Owen with Berba again, or will he play Berba on his own with Nani and Valencia?

Gonna be a big ask without the likes of Rooney, Giggs and Fletch, can see us drawing at best and probably losing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd take a draw, Even though we should be winning.

Berbatov and Owen will start IMO. Its a tough line-up to predict as it depends on who SAF decides to play at the weekend.

Nani has torn Johnson up everytime they've played each other. I'll go with 4-4-2 tonight though with Nani and Valencia on the wings.

Is there any time at all when you see United winning? I wonder... ;))

At least that way you can't be too disappointed. :SMUG:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hah :P

It usually works out that whenever I'm positive about our chances (last years CL final...) we lose, and whenever I reckon we'll either lose or scrape a draw, we usually win. I've actually been banned by my mates from saying we'll win.

I'm just a pessimist to begin with as well :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

....and it's worked again :P

Typical away tie performance in Europe. Don't really go for it, but soak up some pressure and try and gain the most possession. Great to see Valencia on the score sheet again but for fucks sake, Owen needs a goal.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought we were fantastic in the second half all things considered.

Great to see Valencia get another goal (nice finish), and I thought we were unlucky not to add another couple (Anderson was so unlucky!).

Shame Nani's decision making was so poor again and Berbatov and Owen didnt get a goal but I'm delighted none-the-less.

ROLL ON SUNDAY!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Good win, Thats 14 away games unbeaten in Europe in a row! Impressive.

Nani is fucking so close to being amazing IMO. He has the talent but when will his decision making catch up.

Owen's saving a goal lads. Be patient ;))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Does anyone notices that Kiko Macheda was not in our official 09/10 team photo? Even Craig Cathcart,Tom Cleverly and Dan Welbeck are in it...I wonder whats the problem.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

They werent in last year's one either. Whats your point?

Apparently staff @ United arent too happy about Kiko's development, or should I say lack off...

also his nocturnal activities in and about Mancunia are raising eyebrows...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thanks Vann...I was expecting something like that or along those lines...
My point is Rune...Kiko and Danny made their break at the end of last season and were respectively given first team numbers this season. Its like a kick in Kiko's teeth for not making it into the official first team photos when lesser players did like Cleverly and Cathcart,no disrespect.
I mean we were hyping him up,after THAT goal and even featured him well in our pre-season games.
All that and he gets snipped off the official team photos? C'mon...sumthing MUST be wrong.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

to be fair phrase, yes he's not in the good books at OT at the mo..

he wouldnt be cut from the team photo for that,

kiko was with the Italian U21 or U19 at the time of the teamphoto...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Can't wait for tommorow! I hope everyones taking their Cantona masks. I think Rooney won't make it. We'll probably go 4-3-3 if he doesn't.

-------Van-Der-Sar-----------
O'Shea--Ferdinand-Vidic--Evra
--Fletcher-Carrick-Anderson--
-Nani-----Berbatov-----Giggs

I reckon the lads will be right up for this! I predict a good game at the least, both sides want the win.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If we play with that formation, we won't score.

Rooney will hopefully at least be on the bench.

We have to play two strikers.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Still no news on Wazza...

SAF said in the press conference that he needs to train today if he's gonna make it...

Only want to see him play if he's 100%...

Think he'll play Berbs upfront on his own if Wazza misses out..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Alex Ferguson on Nicky Butt "forcing" him to sign Michael Owen! (rednews)

"Michael is capable of scoring in any type of match at the highest level,"

"He has proved that, we knew that.

"Looking at his CV, I think any club in the world would have taken him. The issue was his playing record over the last two or three years and that obviously put some clubs off.

"But I spoke to one or two people about him - Nicky Butt was almost forcing me to sign him, he had so much good to say about the lad.

"I think it was good advice and I took that on board."
