Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Glad to see him doing well for Everton, he's definitely a proper goalscorer, something we sorely lack. Always scored great goals as well, could never finish one on ones but he made up for it with spectacular ones instead.

Ruud and Saha should've been awesome.

That sounds more like Alan Smith.
Saha wasnt too bad with one on ones. He seemed more confident than most of our other players when facing the keeper. Saha just didnt get many one on ones. He did his fair share of assisting with the build up, sometimes went out wide and held up the ball well too.
But sometimes strikers need to be a little more selfish and I think his injuries humbled him a little. Its kind of what's currently happening with Berba at the moment. He's gone through this period where things havent gone his way so now he's trying harder in other areas other than the scoring itself and hoping the goals will naturally come. You saw a bit of that humbleness when he recently scored and instead of celebrating he was pointing to Giggs to give him all the credit.
I think its just how this club (or Sir Alex) likes to deal with situations where a player is lacking confidence. Rooney went through this soon after he joined us and was stuck in this "humble" phase for a while (I guess mainly cuz he was sacrificed for Ronaldo). And he's only just starting to come out of it again and we're being rewarded with goals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Obertan gets his first start tonight for the reserves. Brothers da Silva are also both playing, first Rafael appearance this year.

MUTV at 7 for those interested. :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Really gutted that I wont be able to see it. Hopefully I'll find a stream or something.
I have high hopes of him being the key to what we're lacking in our attack. After watching YouTube clips, I kinda get the feeling he'll be more like a new Henry than Ronaldo. Or maybe a mixture of both, I dunno. But the way he pushes forward with the ball and goes past defenders reminds me of the kind of aggression Henry used to attack his opposition.
At first I was a little worried with the lack of development I heard he made in the last 3 years but the fact is he's still very young and who's to say things wont suddenly click for him here at Old Trafford.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

@ Rune - there's almost a stream for MUTV, check myp2p.

I'm very keen to see him, but am not expecting too much. He hasn't played much at all this year.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Apparently he's been playing with an injury for a while which has affected his performances, so hopefully if we can get him straight then he'll show some signs of improvement.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well that's the reason he's not been ready till now, we decided to make sure he wasn't injured at all before giving him a chance.

Dont get me wrong. I'm not expecting him to give us a world class performance tonight. I'm just hoping he shows he can be useful to the first team and we'll take it from there one step at a time. I mean, no one can be a dynamite from such an early age (Messi being the exception). And the funny thing is, when players do perform at a very high level from the start, their progress seems to plateau early and they usually get stuck there for a long time. Someone like Freddy Adu was considered as an amazing talent at only 16. Where is he now?
Obertan is only 20, which makes him younger than both Nani and Valencia so I'm in no rush to see something special. As long as he gets better every year like Ronaldo at the start did then I'll be happy.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Watched the first half of the reserves. It's hard to tell much, because Oldham were pretty bad and there were a lot of young players out there. However, Obertan probably looked one of the two most skilled players on the pitch, along with Fabio who was awesome. Obertan is:

Tall and ridiculously lanky. Makes Welbeck look stacked.
Fast, and was good in the air against much shorter markers.
Good at dribbling - potentially very good.
A bit static when he doesn't have the ball. Noticable when he wouldn't offer Rafael any options on the right.
Confident - tried a few tricks and took his man on a few times.
Good at the throughball - didn't see this one coming, but he twice sent Fabian Brandy (the next Defoe?!) through on goal with lovely weighted through balls.

And that's it. Only played the 45 minutes. He was clearly too good for that level. Which he damn well should be :)

Rafael and Fabio are wonderfully bubbly - but can they defend?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rafael and Fabio are just Brazilian Glen Johnsons.

Wonderful going forward and absolutely, absurdly bad at defending.

Good to see Obertan got a good start, I have a feeling the little things like being static off the ball will be worked upon quickly and he'll become a viable starter for us. Saw the highlights on Youtube and he's definitely got the touch and the confidence to succeed.

He does look like Vin Diesel's retarded twin though admittedly.

Erm Glen Johnson is the best defender in the league remember, and Liverpool and England's defensive vulnerability is absolutely nothing to do with him and actually it's mostly Evra's fault (when isn't it).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well with Fergie's FA hearing coming up for his comments about Monsieur Wiley the club is already expecting a 4 match ban for Patrice so yeah 6 games sounds appropriate for this other crime. It's fair to say it's all over.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

 The International Break...Makes the weekend and midweek worthless :((

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Berbatov's scored a first half hatrick for Bulgaria tonight, that should give his confidence a boost even if it is against poor opposition.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That's 5 goals in his last 3 games in all competitions.

Hope he can keep that up after the international break.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

S'alright though cause as true to form, he's got himself injured, thus ending the drought.

Hopefully he'll come back and score as he usually does when he gets back.

Is it gonna have to be Berbatov and Owen? Is Owen back?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney and Gerrard "pulled out" both will play for their clubs this weekend.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Apparently he might according to BBC but there's been nothing about it on the official site.

Berba-Owen seem to have a decent amount of chemistry between them, so we should be alright.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Kiko and Owen also looked good together during pre-season and Welbeck linked well with Micky Chips in the CC game against Wolves.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If nothing else works then we'll stick O'Shea up there.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We're fucked if Berba's missing! Owen/Berbs would work well. Might have to go 4-3-3 if he doesn't make it.
