Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Like I said when he moved - he'll be a binary player. Either he'll be the best in la Liga or a real detriment to the team. He was like that for us too, at the beginning of last season.

He's under lots of mental pressure. Once he gets over it he'll get back to his best. Which is the best in the world. Still believe that he could turn out being the best player of the modern era (though playing for Portugal may rob him off a WC)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Valdano reckons he could be suffering from anxiety and the weight of his pricetag like Zidane supposedly did at the start of his RM career.

He's probably just trying too hard and concentrating too much on outdoing Kaka and Messi and it's affecting his performances.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rune,Ryan and Matt...I fully agree on whats been said at club level? But at the international level too with his NT? He is the current captain and should lead by example...but everything he lacks now is not the Ronaldo we had.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

To be fair, he's often struggled with the national team even when he was at United. I don't think his move to Madrid has affected that.

And let's wait before writing him off. Real has only played one competitive game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just popped out for a coffee (in London) and saw a rather large, youngish bloke wearing a Tosic jersey. Random.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think he got unlucky, With Hargreaves coming back he'll need all the games he can get and hopefully by the last 2 CL Group games we'll have qualified. He'll get his chance in the Carling Cup.

I think its silly to say he can become the best player of the modern era, Yes he's a quality player but he's no Zidane, I think Messi will also get closer to that tag. I think its a extremely tough situation for him, Its near impossible for him to as well at Madrid as he did here, Whether its performance wise(06/07) or sheer statistic wise (07/08)

I think SAF also moulded him into a player that brought the best out of Manchester United and I don't think he'll work that well in Madrid cause of that. He's no longer the furthest player forward (Kaka, Raul and Benzema are all normally ahead) I don't think he won't be a success cause he will (Madrid will win things) but I don't think he'll get anywhere near his United best and will probably get outshined by Kaka in his own team and Messi overall.

well, this is going to be difficult after your loss on tuesday. ;)

:)) Should be a good game, Good luck! You'll need it ;))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

oh yeah, but I am confident. A draw would be a great result for us but if you want to advance to the next round you have to win your home games, that simple.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It should be a great game nontheless, trips to Turkey always bring great atmosphere and exciting matches.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Have I? I think Ronaldo doesn't suit Real Madrids setup and thus has damaged his chances, If Ronaldo remained at United he would get much closer to such an accolade. Messi is amazing but Barcelona suit the lad perfectly and I don't think he'd be as good anywhere else.

Quality performance today :DD Loved the midfield, Was interesting with Scholes dictating the game with Fletcher and Anderson in their and Giggs off the left and Berba pulling the strings. Rooney is really stepping up to the plate and showing just how good he is!

Shame about the sending off, Ref got it wrong

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Great goal from Rooney. Gave us a taste of Rooney the goal scorer rather than Rooney the playmaker. Not sure which one I'd rather see more of.

I agree with you about Messi and Ronaldo though, YoungGun. The thing is, people consider them to be at pretty much the same level at the moment in terms of skill and importance of the team (even though I personally still prefer Ronaldo without question). But you have to remember that Messi is still 2 years younger and still in a team that favours him. Ronaldo's career might be starting to go in the other direction now so in that sense, you'd imagine things looking better for Messi in say another 5 years time providing they dont move clubs.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Fantastic performance today from the lads...

From today onwards...we need not worry if we concede at the Lane because we ALWAYS get them back and we ALWAYS score goals there.

Big ups to another massive performance by Fletch and that goal should do Ando a world of good for his performance and confidence.

Back to where we belong..on top.C'Mon United!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Gotta say I didnt think the midfield would work but it did. Scholes was just superb in the first half and was unlucky to go off really, lucky for us we continued to dominate after and Rooney capped it off with that superb goal.

Really happy for Ando too, I know he scored in pre-season but this one meant something. :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney is just providing a masterclass this season.

5 in 5 with 1 in the charity shield, and he's scored in all the England matches that have taken place this season as well hasn't he?

His goal was just simply brilliant, it was like you knew he could do it, but it was more akin to a Torres sort of goal.

His build up play, awareness and passing have been pretty much top notch this season as well.

Yet I bet he doesn't get player of the year even if he keeps this up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I know it's not mentioned because he's English, but how about Tom Huddlestone (all 300 odd pounds of him) holding his face when Scholes went in? Watch the replay, no contact to the head at all. I recall a certain Rivaldo getting some coverage for that. I'd of thought Huddlestone a bigger man, but hey, what have you won eh Tom?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought about that too Ryan...but because its Tom Huddlestone...just another bit player...the media wouldnt waste their time on this...Scholes was NOWHERE near his face whatsoever...infact,Scholes was pulling out of the challenge but his momentum carried him forward.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think we might stick to this setup for the big games now, Worked wonders and much better than the 4-3-3. Fletcher from the right (tucked in and added his usual tenacity and workrate) and Anderson from the middle doing a similar job but adding a bit of pace and power than Fletch, with these two it gave Scholes all the time to just dictate the game like the genius he is and also allowed to play Berbatov who was brilliant.

I was sceptical when I read the team sheet but its the best football we've played all season and for a while to be fair. Looked something like this

--Fletcher--Scholes--Anderson
--------Berbatov------------Giggs
---------------Rooney--------

He played up a few times. In the first half he tried barging Evra after he'd taken the ball off of Lennon, and because (somehow!) he didn't succeed he was calling for a foul.
On top of that he didn't stop moaning throughout the game, and got involved with the ref everytime we conceded a foul...

Twat.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Only scholes can go in for a tackle with the ball on the ground and end up getting sent off for "kicking" someone in the face :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We've come too expect at least one red per season from the ginger ninja, the problem is the sendings off are from nearly always avoidable tackles, you could understand it if they were hack downs on the edge of the box from the last man, but they seem to be late tackles in the middle of the park where there's usually no need to go to ground. Luckily it didn't cost us, thought that was our best performance this season by a mile, Rooney, Fletch and Paddy Evra were immense.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Was in the betting shop with my mate putting our fixed odds on, he was going for Spurs till I quipped you never bet against United they are like Germany they just win even when you don't fancy them...

He won £92... ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This story is a good read...I really liked Forlan,he had all the potential in the world but was kinda harshly treated.

Click here there ---> DIEGO FORLAN

I always liked Diego, he scored some cracking goals for us....

funny thing is that he did'nt seem to fit in, mainly cos RVN was the main man in the team at the time...

but after Ruud left he would have been perfect for the Rooney Ronaldo combo that SAF adopted...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, he's a bit old to come back now which is a shame, I could've seen the second coming of Forland a season or two back.

Love the bit about him rushing back to the dressing room to change boots after he fell over and Fergie catches him and goes apeshit

At least he left in style!
