You say that but it made no difference during the run of cleansheets when Evans played a few games, so clearly its not totally down to Rio and Vidic not being together. IMO we've havent let in many goals that we can look back on and say "we couldnt have done any better". A few have been the kind of goals that we normally would have avoided.
I'm just glad Rio messed up for England and not us cuz you know he aint gonna let that happen again.

it did matter, fact ;). your confidence was shook, you lost your next game, we scored a last minute winner in the next game and we then proceeded to thump everyone (apart from Arsenal). Whilst you relied on last minute dramatic winners to keep your knecks in front. In the end, it didnt matter, you can thank Macheda for that IMO, but how will it pshycologically effect the two teams during this season?

You lot wished you had a Macheda,or last minute dramatic winners to win yourselves a premiership crown.
Psychologically? what are you on mate? We are onto our 4th Premiership crown in a row,no other team has ever done that and this is our best chance yet.
If you lot win it this year finally,it will get that big,ugly ass old monkey, off your back...thats it...hey...even Blackburn has won the Premiership before.:APPLAUD:

It was last minute winners that kept you guys in the hunt at times.

You guys flopped under pressure even though you had a 8 point lead at one stage.

Well Petrov, in that case you should be pretty damn pleased, being as clearly Liverpool will continue to thump everyone they play, whereas United's luck has to run out at some point. I expect Liverpool's title to be in the bag by Christmas, with United in a fierce relegation fight against Phil Brown and co.

Erm. Right.

I was gonna say I'm sure Liverpool won with goals in the last few minutes more than any other team last season.

Okay boys, live in denial. Being beaten 4-1 at home and your stadium emptying before the final whistle, and seeing Dossena on the score sheet didnt affect you in any way.

The point is you were putting teams away easily, until you got beat by us, and you had a run of games, after losing to Fulham and getting players sent off where you clung on to your lead by your fingertips.

Yeah they did but it doesn't count as only United are helped by jammy last minute winners and having referee's on the payroll any other incident is forgotten about.

Rio made a big mistake infront of millions yesterday, but it's unlike him and it was only a friendly. I'd be surprised if he makes another high profile mistake any time soon and we can take heart from the fact that he was not alone in the lack of concentration department. Glen Johnson was terrible all night and was probably England's worse player, he was given a going over by Babel and Robben, they made him look amateur at times.

On a side note, it's funny how Roman Bednar gets a BACKDATED 3 month ban (meaning he'll have missed 1 league match maximum) after admitting to buying and using cannabis and cocaine when Rio got 8 months for missing a test which he passed the following day.

We never got out of 3rd gear last season, teams didnt attack us so it was just a case of waiting til we broke them down and we got complacent.

You did beat us 4-1 but the scoreline was not an accurate description of how the match went. I watched it again this week and I still think it was far closer than you lot make out. Your first goal was a longball not dealt with by Vidic and Torres took it well. Second a penalty from typical Gerrard going down early in the box before any contact. Third a freekick after we went down to 10men and fourth was another long ball and lob when we we're playing 2 at the back. Whoopee fucking doo. Hardly played us off the park did you.

As Abou pointed out, you had an 8 point lead and you through it away. You may have beaten us home and away but City did that the season before and it didnt get them anywhere either. We won the league and got to the CL final. Our players were phsyically and mentally tired, it's no surprise you lot weren't as you were only fighting for one prize for the final months of the season.

So maybe we are in denial, maybe you did destroy our confidence but at the end of the day we still won it and you lot are in denial thinking you can repeat what happened last season as a given.

It didn't though, We never really got out of 2nd gear all season long. Their was never a period I thought we were playing at our best apart from the odd game here and there.

I think you know deep down that you really screwed up last year and doubt you'll get a chance to win the title like last year were everything really was falling for you. I'll be really surprised if you manage to challenge like you did last year and I'll admit I was wrong but I just can't see it. Back to 3rd or 4th methinks.

It was on Goal.com yesterday. Funny while it lasted.


So anyway...what d'you reckon United are gonna line up like against Brum? Rooney and Berbatov? Rooney and Owen? Will Nani start? Will Valencia start?

see that's what i hate about Man Utd most.

Valencia, Fletcher, Carrick, Park.

That is not a midfield which puts the shits up opposition, it's not a dream team, you wouldn't call that a midfield capable of winning everything.

And yet, because it's United, they are.

Somehow United have a knack of building a quality team without having too many superstars. What i mean is, Carrick is the best of those 4 and i don't think he'd get in the Liverpool side ahead of Mascherano or the Chelsea side ahead of Essien, or Barca or Madrid for example, yet that midfield will probably dominate most teams in the world because of the formation and the way United play.

Agreed

They just work well as a unit, its full of energy, and they keep it simple, keep a good shape and can patiently pick teams apart.

On paper it looks distincly average!

However, it might struggle against the more physical and packed midfields.

Carrick is the focal point of our team because he controls the tempo that we play at, and almost everything goes through him.

If he has a stinker, then we play shit. If he is on form, we're on form.

He's not combative or has the work rate of a Fletcher or a Park, so he doesn't stand out to the average fan but he pays his role in the team brilliantly.

He'd easily fit into your system as a replacement for Alonso.

I think Fletch is more important than Carrick, he's vastly improved over the past season and a half from a player who always turned up in the big games, but wasn't that good, to a very good all-rounder.

If we had him against Barcelona, we'dve only lost 1-0 :P

Fletcher can play many roles where as Carrick only has one role in the team.
Excluding anyone in defence, Fletcher might be one of our best at reading the game and off-the-ball movement.
Very underrated outside our fanbase.

Well if the other 9 or 8 players actually turned up in Rome we'd have fucking won but lets not get into that eh.

It depends how you look at it. I'd say Valencia is a upgrade on Park with being defensively as sound and being a much better attacking threat. Nani is Potential who can become a top quality player. Carrick is pretty underrated it seems by people on here. Hes below the top level CM's like Essien, Fabregas and co but IMO as good as the likes of Alonso and Barry. Fletcher has improved more than I thought he ever would really. Makes Hargreaves look like a bigger flop than he already is as I think he's a better DM than him now and if Fletcher keeps improving like he has over the last 12 months will become a World Class player no doubt.

What people misunderstand with us is unlike Liverpool, Chelsea who have their "proven players" and "Backup" we don't really work like that so much. We admittedly don't have a midfield as good as Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona but we Carry a lot of potential as our Backup players. Im not saying this will happen but for example the midfield of
"-Valencia-Fletcher-Carrick-Nani" could in 2-3 years evolve into
"Ljajic--Fletcher-Anderson-Obertan/Nani" which then could be up their with the best of them. We have such a young squad with such a big scope of improvement on so many players its really a waiting game for us before they all develop and with our current squad we already have a team capable of Winning the league. :))

I agree that we would struggle against a physical and packed midfield.For all our industry and hard work in the middle with Fletch and Carrick, we currently just dont have enough bite or aggression.I think we need one more addition to the central midfield...any one will do,be it an aggressor or a creative brain...just bring one in.

All these talk about how we are interested in that rookie German keeper,Manuel Neuer...how would that affect Ben Foster and Tomasz Kusczack? We all know Edwin VDS is in his twilight end of his career but we should not tinker with the GK position again.I say we should go on and by a ready made keeper like how we bought Edwin.

I know we will have the cash if Gigi Buffon is available at the end of next season.
