Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

His end product is poor though. He's not worth £17m either but I guess we'll have to deal with that, he should be a decent squad player.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We should be paying 5 million for squad players, not 17. We could get Martins from Newcastle for half that. If Ljacic is so good, we only need someone as a stop gap in that position so why pay so much? That would mean he has to play and then we'd see our youngsters going abroad again like Rossi and Pique. I'd much rather Nani be given a real chance until January and if he can't cut it, then stick either Tosic or Ljacic in. Then again, we'll win nothing with kids.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We United fans learned this week everyone has their price. Obviously it would be hard to understand for you since when you offered 100M Kaka refused and has know gone for half that ;))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not everything has a price. Ronaldo just had "Real Bling" stamped on his forehead for some time now...
Never consider him as with heart to Manchester. He was pretty good and did his job, won things, but that's it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We will not sign a big foreign name for lots of money. We never do. We'll get someone from the Prem or a half decent up and coming player.

Must be hard for a Rag to understand that not everything has a price. Some players (no rags though), have loyalty and can't be bought.

Sky money will only buy you so much.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I Hope so!
did any1 heard about links with Benzema and Ribéry ?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Apparantly were close to signing Valencia and are also looking to bring in Eto'o

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Zidane claims Real are after Ribery as well. He was right about the Kaka deal the last time Zizou spoke to the press.
I'm sorry but how can you not feel bitter watching them buy all these guys. I'm not even ashamed to say I hope the whole "Galacticos II" idea f*cks up next season. Even the last Galacticos was built over a few years. This time around they're gonna build the whole team in one transfer window.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Barça will have many new supporters this upcoming season me thinks... :)

Also, do you guys think that all these moves by Real Madrid will take away some of the spotlight from the EPL to La Liga?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dunno, if anything it just highlights that England has shit weather :D

If we had Spanish weather, noone would ever leave, and Ronaldinho would've played for United in his prime than Barca.

Maybe now Sepp Blatter will give english clubs a break... at least until 3 english teams reach the Champions League semi finals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We all knew it was going to happen one day to be honest, Theirs something different about taking a unknown 18 year old lad and transforming him into the Best in the world, We've seen Ronnie develop and if im honest its been a privilege to watch him play over the 6 years, hasn't been a entertainer or talent like him since Best.

YouTube - Goodbye Ronaldo

Cheers for the good times Ron:BYE:

Hopefully he'll be in the stands watching us lift our 4th European Cup in the Bernabau next season as Real fail to get past the last 16 again:DD

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm still finding it hard to take in to be honest. I think it was the fact that it came a bit suddenly, especially after Madrid bought Kaka which lead people to think that they wont need our player. If he had moved last year then it wouldnt have bothered me as much. They had dragged the whole transfer saga out this time last year which made it easier to accept it.
I cant hold his desire to play for Madrid against him though. I've read in many places that even though you see him fooling around with celebrities or expensive cars, he's still a family man and always travels with his mum, aunties and uncles, etc wherever he goes. And he has always tried to put their interests before his own. From that point of view, you can kinda see where he was coming from when he made that comment about "being a slave" last year. I'm sure he'd have taken a pay cut to move to Madrid cuz the move is more about the lifestyle and not the money but the club and fans wanted him to stay in Manchester. A recent quote from Sir Alex said that we've done well to keep him for as long as we have cuz he's always wanted to move. So lets move on from that chapter and think ahead to the new challenge, which IMO might be the hardest yet.

I've said before that great players dont get replaced, we just have to learn to do without them, as we did with Cantona, Beckham, Ruud, etc. And I'm sure it'll be the same with Ronaldo. I don't think we can just sign someone like Ribery or whoever and expect them to fill Ronaldo's void just because they play in the same position. I mean, Ronaldo filled Beckham's shoes but they were totally different players but (arguably) equally influential. Its not gonna matter where they play on the field, we're just gonna need to get someone/anyone to rise to the challenge and become the new backbone of the team. All signs point to the number 10 thats already at our club and I'm sure he's more than capable of doing it.
IMO, our job isnt to find Ronaldo's replacement, our job is to find the right players that can get the most out of and elevate Rooney's performance to that next level alongside the likes of Messi and Kaka. I've personally always thought Rooney works best when he plays off a quick target man. The Rooney/Owen partnership would have been feared all over the world IMO if Owen's career hadnt gone downhill with all those injuries and I think we need someone small and quick like that. People like Etoo or maybe Saviola come to mind. Villa's out of the question cuz he'll only go to Madrid if he moves. I don't really know much about Benzema so I cant comment on him. I think Robinho would be nice but that'll never happen either. So who does that leave? Any ideas?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why would we get another player who migt want to pack up and go in a few years? Sigh.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why all the bitterness towards RM?
I'm hoping for high quality football next season from Real Madrid. The first two (or 3) years of the galacticos were amazing.

I know it must suck to watch Real Madrid hoarding such class players, but hey, look it from my perspective, every year someone comes and takes FC Porto star players, so i'm kinda used to seeing great players leave my club. (Though always saddened :()
Whoever has the cash can have the best players. The rules protect the rich clubs. That's how it is.

BTW, why hasn't Fergie guaranted Tevez? it's crazy not having the player secured by now. He is world class. Rooney and Tevez upfront, what a double.
the price is no excuse, with Ronaldo's cash pouring in.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thats with every player mate, Spain will always have that appeal to foreign players. As I've said before its more about replacing Ronaldo's goals than anything more. Eto'o possibly? Talk of us signing Douglas Costa again. I think Nani will directly replace Ronaldo on the right at the start of the season IMO.

Cureently I'd say our best team is...

---------VDS/Foster-----------
Brown--Ferdinand--Vidic--Evra
-----Hargreaves-Carrick------
Nani-------Rooney-------?(Valencia/Ljajic/Anderson?
----------Berbatov--------

Could all change depending on who we bring in but if Nani can step up a gear then im not to worried, We've got ridiculous talent of youth coming through who might be given the #7 like Wellbeck/Macheda/Ljajic/Petrucci

I think like in 06/07 we'll be a more balanced side with goals coming from all over the park :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah that's why he's so frustrating. It's not that he's limited technically or anything like that, he's a really talented lad, it's just his decision making and composure that lets him down really. Hopefully he can step up and really work on that side of his game.

About Ronaldo. I actually think that article has got some truth in it, I had noticed that he seemed a bit distant from the other players, especially during the celebrations after the Arsenal (league) match and also as pointed out after the CL defeat. I think we've done the right thing selling him, that's a phenomenal amount of money and we've certainly got our money's worth out of him. It's time to look forward and move on. I'm excited to see what Fergie has planned, whether he'll bring in a number of new faces, both big names or not so, or if he'll trust in what he's already got, push some of the younger lads forward, maybe just add one or two like Valencia, it's gonna be really interesting.
