I'm sure the fact that Carlos Queiroz is no longer around has affected their development. I actually hope he comes back after the slow year he's had with Portugal,

i think benzema will be a good one to replace tevez even tho i think tevez cant be replace by anyone. What we need is those players that proven that they're good in united soil to stay and those who can claim to be world biggest star but flop in united to leave.

Benzema looks great in terms of his footballing attributes - but he's just another Ronaldo waiting to happen. He's said he wants to play at Real, and has no urge to play in England. So fine, let's count him out.

For me the decision actually comes down to a certain mr. hargreaves. If Fergie believes that Owne can play 40+ games next year, then we can sign Tevez, because we have the money. If he believes that Hargo will still be injured til January (as papers today are saying) then we need to spend that £25m on a world quality central midfielder, because Ando, Carrick and Fletch can't be involved for the whole season, and there's no one behind them (giggs and scholes don't count dammit).

Up front I'd be much happier taking a risk with Berbatov, Rooney, Welbeck and Macheda, of course ignoring Ronaldo who can also play there.

Roma aren't in the best financial situation, going for De Rossi would be great, could finally replace Keano :))

We were looking at De Rossi a couple of seasons ago but I think he is next inline to be Roma's captain..dont think he will ever leave...If Milan is breaking up just because Carlo Ancelotti left...I believe we can buy Rino Gattusso.

But how many more years can we get out of Gattuso? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we shouldnt buy older players. Its just that I dont think its a wise decision to buy an old player in his position.

Agree that the he's too old, particularly given his injuries this season.

De Rossi is annoying, don't like him - but he's rather good. Still, don't think he'd fit into the team well, and I agree that he'll stay at Roma.

So back to square one I guess...

I know it's a bit late, and everyone else has really enjoyed the ripping into United for their performance in Rome, but rather interesting if you follow the fallout.

Rio Ferdinand's calf injury is serious enough that he's been fully withdrawn from the England qualifiers. (vice captain)
Michael Carrick was playing with a broken toe, so has also withdrawn.
Anderson has withdrawn from Brazil's squad due to knee trouble.

If these were unimportant friendlies, in the middle of hte season, I could see why players would withdraw with 'fake' injuries. But I really think those three were crocked in the final. Which might at least partly explain the performance. I mean, a midfield 3 of broken toed-Carrick, busted knee Anderson and pensioner Giggs? Never really going to beat Xavi/Iniesta were they!

Haha you're right mate but as far as everyone else is concerned we were overrun and outclassed and are in need of a complete revamp :SMUG:

Bad news indeed but I still can't see us getting a replacement due to the uncertainty over the injury, as well as the fact we're so well stocked in central midfield, we can even call on youngsters like Gibson and Possebon.

I hope he gets back fully fit, even from January if possible, as he is a crucial player in the business end of the season as he showed in 2007/08.

I tried to comment on the Times story from yesterday, but of course they didn't publish (anyone else remember when the Times wasn't in the same garbage heap as the Sun in terms of sports reporting?).

Anyway, both of these articles share one thing in common: no evidence from anyone. The Times one basically made up a recovery schedule based on nothing, and the BBC one starts off by saying hte player himself plans to be back, but that the injury can be permanent. Not that Owen's is, but that the injury itself can.

Both are not news. They are both opinions about a type of injury, that a player happens to have. I really don't get how they're even published. I mean, if I made up today that Fernando Torres recurring hamstring problems are a sign that he'll never be able to play a full season, based on the fact that hamstring problems are bad and he has had them in the past, would that be a real story? No.

But then, everytime I meet someone who works for a UK paper I punch them in the face and then walk away, so clearly I have issues. *spit*

I sure hope there's no evidence and it's untrue because we'll be so much better with Hargo back I'm sure of it, he was a one man machine at times in his first season, and he provides competition for the much improved Fletch (probably our best player last season in reality)

I think we'll need to invest in a CM soon anyway, As Beachryan said most of that article is just an opinion with no real substance at all. We have currently, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson. Hargreaves is injured and Scholes and Giggs are being faded out. So I would like us to bring in 1 top CM.

1 top/starter CM would have to displace Carrick,Fletch and Ando.They have been superb this season except for the Brasilian.What we really need is a holding player like Essien or Diarra.Great engine,simple on the ball and not afraid of getting stuck in.I cannot think of anyone in that bracket right now.News of Owen Hargreaves is definitely not good and I hope he sees a light at the end of his recovery,such a shame as he would have made a difference in Rome.

We have just clinched a record deal with another top insurance company AON for the next 4 years after the next season. Thats breathing space for debts and cash injection for new players.Interesting summer this will be.

I guess we could still sign an older midfielder who would last atleast another 2 years while we gamble on Hargreaves' fitness. But I'm not sure if thats wise financially.
Probably depends on who it is and how much they cost.

Doesn't really bode well if he's supposed to take over from Fergie.

Failed at Madrid and is failing at the Portugal job.

Seems like he's a great coach, and great for having contacts in useful places, but not a good manager.

Yeah I don't think he's the man for the job. Larry White, Solskjaer or a really high profile name will replace Fergie IMO but who knows.

Also, SAF has told Gibson, Danny Simpson and Campbell they can look for new clubs.

I think he keeps things simple and has got a quality shot on him, I think he could become a squad player but not much more.

I thought Gibson's contract was up anyway!? I like him too btw. Simpson looked good when he played in 07/08 but I guess he's too far down the pecking order now and Campbell isn't good enough.

What I find weird though is how when Campbell first started playing for us, we were lead to believe that he was the best we had from the academy and how he was the one forward who could have broken through the ranks. But Macheda and Wellbeck who both are more talented, didnt get that same chance back then.
I kinda get the feeling that Campbell was only used to attract interest and then be sold off. Looking back now, how many players have we loaned out and then eventually kept at our club? Even Giuseppe Rossi, who was arguably the best in recent years, was eventually sold.
It looks as if, if you're loaned out, you're not coming back.

Campbells loan just sucked for everyone. He was too good to not play, but he wasn't good enough to play for us. You wonder...if he hadn't headed straight into shay given's face on the opening day (not only 3 points...) if he would have stayed given our limitations at hte time.

Harry Redknapp is a c*nt who will only play his players that he chose to show how good he is. Ramos actually played Frazier a bit in other comps, and he has looked superb for the under 21s, the matches I've seen he's been the best player on the pitch.

To give up on him purely because he got shafted by an asshole that looks droopy dog is a bit unfair, surely!
