Manchester United Thread

Well, we did play more attractive football last season, that's for sure. But then against Tottenham in the second half, Berba showed what a great assest he can be to this team and we play great football (ok they surrended and sat back and made it easier).

I guess Fergie knows what the plan is. Maybe he's seen something and doesn't think we can play like we did last season for much longer. I dunno only time will tell. I've got faith in him though, he doesn;t make many mistakes.

Berba will come good IMO, I think Tevez is good and all but Berba is the better player no doubt. Tevez's style of play is more appealing though as he "runs all day" but the stats have shown Berba covers just as much ground but isn't as obvious to see.

I think if we lack balance with a 4-4-2 anyway so changing the system wouldn't be all bad.

If we lose Tevez, I think we should consider playing Anderson in his role. As good as he is, I hate seeing played so deep in midfield all the time. Hopefully once Hargreaves is back we might see more of this.

Yeah last few games Fergie has pushed him forward into his more natural role and he's looked good. I think maybe he wanted him to improve the defensive and tactical side of his game before moving him back up to a more attacking position.

I think the only thing holding him back at the moment is his dreadful shooting.

How you guys feeling for tonight? Am typically nervous, and at least a little miffed we didn't score at least 1 more last week. Still I guess we're in a better position than they are, and have a bit more experience at this level.

We'll need to score, and if we do it first I think it's over. But I could see them nicking a 2-0 win, or even worse beating us undeservedly on penalties again (2005 FA Cup flashbacks...). Just hope we can be clinical, for once.

Dont we always score at the Emirates? They will be in a mess if we got a goal tonight. The only difference to their team tonight would be the inclusion of a half-fit Robin van Persie...which will mean, they will either line up with two forwards upfront or exclude Walcott from last weeks line up.

I am pretty much confident about tonight, havent felt like this for sometime now, especially playing at the Emirates. We should go through without a problem tonight.

I'm not allowed to be positive so I'm not gonna say a word, which probably shows how I'm feeling about tonight.

By the way, I was just thinking of something. If we won it again this year, does that give us the right to be considered one of the European greats?

I mean, when you think about the major European teams of all time, you think of Real, Liverpool, Milan, Ajax, Bayern Munich, but you never really think of us, so if we win it again, brings us to one behind Liverpool and joint with Ajax (?), can we be considered up there?

I dunno to be honest. It seems like one of those questions you need to ask yourself again in another 3-4 years time.
As of right now, it seems like we're just "doing" what's expected of us but looking back on the last 2-3 years, I think we've grown into a very powerful side in Europe. It doesnt feel that way but our recent achievements would say we are. Maybe winning in Rome again would solidify that status.

I hope even if we don't go through we get some recognition at some point this season. We've played more competitive games than any other team in europe, made it to at least the semi-final of every competition we've entered and might still win our domestic league. That's an amazing achievement imo.

Definatly like you say if it does happen they will be the only side ever to retain the Champions League so I should definatly think the 07/08 and 08/09 squads of United would obtain the status of a being European greats

Well lads not long to go now. I hope we don't let Arsenal do a Milan and just come out and hammer us early on. We need to start of well and try and keep the ball. I think Rooney is the man were going to look to. He's reaching that stage that Ronaldo did 2 seasons ago were he's being consistently our best player every match. Worried about RVP though we'll need to keep him quite today.

Heres a nice Ad by Nike to get you excited, Does Ronaldo score? or doesn't he? :))
YouTube - Manchester United vs Arsenal - Witness the moment

I think We'll Line up like this

----------Ronaldo----------
-------Berba/Tevez--------
Rooney--Fletcher-Carrick-Park
Evra---Vidic--Ferdinand-O'Shea
---------Van-Der-Sar---------

Not sure if SAF will pick Berba or Tevez.

I think if we reach Rome then this current team (06+) is reaching the heights of a great side along wit the teams of the past.

LOL that ad is so much like the FIFA09 intro sequence! Quite unrealistic compared to real match footage.

Some mad rumours going round today, €70m bid in for Ribery, £12m for Sakho from PSG (Football Manager wonderkid :XD:) and appparantly we're expanding the South Stand by 20,000 giving us the biggest ground in the country! :D

Cant wait for tonight, I think Arsenal will score at least once but can see us scoring too so could go either way. Extra time would not surprise me one bit.

WOo!

probably....sadly...yes

Surely the law of averages means that they won't lose 3 on the trot?! That's my only hope. What a none-game this has turned out to be, atleast I can go to bed early :D

It's a funny old game isn't it? You took a million shots at Old Trafford and it took a lucky deflection for O'Shea to score. And now this. :)

might be over by then mate, but he will defo add a bit more going forward for Arsenal

He'll offer something which is more than RvP and Adebayor have so far. I guess if RvP was fit he'd be more dangerous. Bendtner and Vela should get a chance.
