Manchester United Thread

Haven't seen the match cause I was in work but from the sounds of it we were in control 100% and never worried.

Nice to see us get a potentially sticky fixture out of the way with aplomb.

I feel a bit sorry for Kiko, despite scoring two vital goals that have won us matches and kept the title in our hands, he won't get a winner's medal if go all the way as he won't have played enough matches! Poor kid, maybe they'll get special dispensation.

I don't understand why people want SAF to sign Benzema so much. I'm french and I watch Ligue 1 matches every now and then. In my opinion he's not even as good as Berbatov, and definitely isn't the best striker in the league. He's actually having a rather disappointing year.

I'd rather keep Tevez anyday, even if he's not scoring that many goals. Now Villa, that's a whole different player.

Watching Benzema at Euro 2008, he was awful. I really don't think he's THAT good to be honest.

Just watching us on MOTD, our second goal was lovely, and it seems Rooney is at the heart of everything we do at the minute, and when he's on form, he's nigh on unstoppable.

He's good but we don't really need him. If Tevez leaves, we'll still have Macheda and Welbeck, as well as Campbell, who I think could easily take Tevez's 3rd striker role at the club, so it won't be the end of the world. But I'm sure we'll find a way to get him to stay without breaking the bank.

I know its too early to say but I honestly dont think either Macheda, Wellbeck or Campbell will ever replace what Tevez gives us.

Macheda gives us something ALL our other strikers don't give us. Welbeck can be Berba's long term replacement. Campbell's off in the summer. Tevez has great desire and heart but so does Rooney who is all round much much better.

But then thats like saying we don't need Park either. No offence to him but he doesnt really offer us much technically yet he just got offered a 4 year extension.
And we're still overlooking the fact that Tevez is willing to be our 3rd striker even though he's a world class player that every team in the world would gladly take, and Tevez himself knows it. If we got David Villa or Karim Benzema tomorrow, how do you reckon they'd react when you tell them they have to warm the bench while Rooney and Berba are playing.

It really pisses me off knowing we wouldnt have been in this mess if we hadnt signed Berbatov. His transfer fee could have gone towards making Tevez permanent and then we could have been looking forward to another world class striker this summer. And our performances last season prove we dont need Berba.

Wow, just watched match of the day - I cannot, CANNOT believe they decided to look at some refereeing decisions. All of the very last threads of respect I had for their integrety are gone.

But then I realised I get to tune in if we win the league and look at their down-trodden faces. Can't believe how ABU the media is right now, Setanta and BBC too now!

You lot are paranoid! :D

Didnt see all of MOTD but they didnt even mention the other two pen's arsenal should have had but only paid attention to Arshavins honesty. And A lawro Lawro nonsense got it wrong with Fowlers penalty saying he scored it, he didn't, Seaman saved and trigger or murphy scored the rebound.

Anyway, Rooney should have been sent off, but everyone knows Manu players dont get carded for kicking out! Didnt matter though, Boro are Sh!t!

I can't see the media being so ABU as you lot do. But perhaps some people are a little sick of you lot winning everything? Just maybe, a teeny bit? No?

If you do win the league/cl, its vindication for all the little shithouse "journalists" on shows like Sunday Supplement who can merely re-itirate how right they are about the way to win major honours= go out and buy all the established talent, and spend 20m+ on each of them.

Strangely enough we won't here about how Rafa pushed you so close (or even eclipsed):OOOH: with all those "average" players he bought

as you liked Fergie's tantrum a while back.

That tussle was fuck all. He didn't kick out, he was trying to free himself from the tangle. If anything, the defender was obstructing him from getting the ball. Funny thing is, I watched the match on Setanta and Pleat said that Rooney could have gone, but on match of the day the commentator said how much he has matured. One of them them 50/50 decisions then eh? I wonder why you thought it deserved a red.
Man Utd players get retrospective bans whereas other teams players don't.
Remember this? He got fuck all for it. Not even after the game.
YouTube - Brown tackle on Giggs

There have been plenty of other incidents too. Only last week, Palacios should have gone for his flying challenge but the only incident that was highlighted was the dodgy penalty. Apparently, it changed the game. If Palacios had gone we could argue that they wouldn't have scored two goals and our goal difference would be better.

In the end, you want us to lose and will look for any little thing that goes for us and then state, "it always happens".
I'm sure I will do the same today when I watch your match.

I'm sorry TikTik but no way should Rooney have gone for that. He didn't even kick him. Did you see the Stoke game? Delap deliberately kicked out Boa Morte while they were on the grond, connected just undre his thigh, and only got a yellow. Then in the Barcelona match, Messi SHOVED the referee. Put both handso n him and shoved. I can only imagine the crucifition that would have happened had that been Ronaldo. lead story in every paper in the counry.

My anger towards MOTD is that they had a special segment on United's dodgy decisions, in a game that had none. First they show the goal. Smugly Hansen says could have been a foul by Macheda before Giggsy's goal. I watched the game live, and thought it was too in real time. But in the replays, you see what actually happens is the boro guy steps onto Kiko's foot. Last time I checked with the benefit of a replay, being kickedi sn't a foul. The the Aliadiere 'penalty shout' which no one mentioned at the time. Not even Sky at half time, nor the palyer himself, nor his manager, nor the crowd. It's like they had to dig and dig and dig to try to find something dodgy. And finally the 'handball' which was deflected at pace by Tuncay about 2 feet from Vidic, which completely changed the directino of the ball and went straiht into Vidic's hand. 100% not a penalty. But they have the nerve to show it twice, in slow motion, then have ex-professioanl's discuss it. I'm sorry but if that was any other game, it would have never NEVER made the highlight reel. And that includes Liverpool.

This just wouldn't happen in North American sports. It's like people in the UK would rather their team lost on a dodgy penalty so they have something to whine about later, rather than have their team win. I was watching the Celtics v Bulls playoffs, in the last second of overtime one ofth Celtic players slapped the Bulls player in the face, split his lip wide open. So he had to step up, in the playoffs, bleeding from his face and try to make a free throw to keep his team in the game. No sub allowed, no lengthy treatment. And he missed. And you know what he and his coach said afterwards? That it's just part of the game. My lord that's refreshing.

no ones talking about that slap in the face either, its not like thats some controversial thing that the fans or coach are blaming for their team losing.

i dont know if you guys know it living in the uk but football players here in north america are considered huge pussies. which to be fair compared to any other athlete playing in a major sport here they are, even the football players are tougher here lol.

Thing is Tevez isn't our player like Park, Not sure where you got this "Happy to be 3rd choice" He's been unhappy about it all season long? I think if we sign Tevez then great but if we don't I won't be to dissapointed.

Agreed about MOTD trying their hardest to find something in the match, Im not to fussed anyway as it comes with the territory of being Manchester United :))

Eh? But NFL players are MASSIVE! And they don't fall down at the slightest hit either?

@ Ryan:

Oh come on, the whislte had already gone and Rooney goes and gives another dig with his heel. Its not like the ball was anywhere near his foot and he didnt aim his foot towards the ball either. It was petulant and atleast a worthy of a card.

Haven't seen MOTD, and tbh they are so crap I don't see the point. Although I will agree with you that the media are very ABU, they were very negative with Liverpool when they were top earlier in the season. Its probably a british mentality that whoever is top based on talent gets a kicking. Lets face it, that is why Manu are mostly top and the same reason Liverpool have been top or near. They have both been the best teams in the league this season. You can see it in crap shows like Britain's got Talent, you are popular/OK as long as the public decides but anybody who is the best by talent and work effort gets slated. Its just general jeolosy (sp?) by mediocre people who have no talent and are mostly stuck in dead-end jobs: the general public.

Eh? But NFL players are MASSIVE! And they don't fall down at the slightest hit either?

I remember being in Philly a few years ago for an Eagles (NFL) playoff game. Donovan McNabb (their quarterback and best player) was playing with 2 broken fingers, a cracked rib, sports hernia and sprained ankle. They just dosed him on painkillers and of fhe went. Those guys are ridiculous, they're basically injured the whole season.

Soccer players are viewed as total jokes compared to other athletes, rightly so in comparison. It's even more pronounced because in the states they get lots of South American coverage, where the players are clearly castrated when signing their first professional contract. Just shocking how pathetic those diving jokes are.

@TikTik - Yeah definitely is an English thing. Build em up so they can knock em down. Makes me so sad sometimes.

i meant football, not american football. nah they're pretty tough man, i only watch one game a year (the superbowl) but i know when it looks like they're injured they aren't pretending. their whole family is watching, they're not goin out like that.

anyways back on topic.. i dont mind if tevez leaves because we have welbeck and macheda who need games and will be happy to sit on the bench for a few more years. dont get me wrong though hes one of my favourite players, we just dont need him. happy if he goes happier if he stays.

Yeah but look at the FA Cup semi-final, he was useless. You cant spend £30-35m on someone just cos they're energetic.

Yeah but look at the FA Cup semi-final, he was useless. You cant spend £30-35m on someone just cos they're energetic.

Yet Berba was the one that cost us the game that day.
And do you honestly think "energetic" is the only characteristic Tevez has? One of the biggest reasons for us playing so well in 07/08 was because our attacking for were Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Giggs. And all four had a lot of movement all over the pitch, making it hard to mark them. And the link up play between Rooney and Tevez was brilliant at times. We might be looking to secure more trophies this season but we're nowhere near as good as we used to be a year ago and the moment Berba came in, everything changed for the worse. The only guys that should get any credit for their performances this time around is the defence for all the clean sheets we kept.
Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying Berba is useless, he's just useless for us. He's just not what we need for our team to work. Can you imagine a team like Barca signing him? Of course not. Now we as a club would accept any top player so I was like everyone else really excited at the start of the season when we signed him cuz I just thought "not who we need, but what do we have to lose?". Its only now that its become more obvious that his signing came at the expense of Tevez. And I cant find a single non United fan who isnt laughing or thinking we're stupid for making the choice we're about to make.

Yeah I know what you're saying, but the money has been spent on Berba already and we cant really justify spending that much again on Carlos. He's already cost us £10m plus wages. I know Tevez offers a lot more than energy but that's why most people like him and want him to stay and to be honest, this season he's not offered us a lot more at times.

Like I said, I'd love him to stay, I just dont think we should fork out another £25m or whatever it is for him. If we can get Kia to let us have him for £10-15m then happy days.

And I think we need to give Berba another season before we judge him properly. He needs time to gel.

But do you think Berba can work within our best system? It seems more like we need to find a whole new system to get the best out of that one player.
