So our offense is clearly the issue this season, and undoubtedly bringing in the Berb has been part of that. However, given that he is so clearly dripping in ability, it seems bizarre that we can't fit him in. The main problems I see at the moment are:
1. Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov avoid the box like plague. All 3 see more comfortable coming back to the centre circle than plunging forward towards the opposition keeper.
2. Last season Ronaldo was at his best when he was cutting in from the wings, and taking up positions central on the edge of the box. This season Berba is there, with two defenders, so there's no space.
3. Park, for all his effort, doesn't actually produce anything other than being in great positions. Which would be fine if he could finish/cross/pass, but just being somewhere is not helpful.
4. Rooney and Tevez have been very inconsistent.
5. When we have looked vunerable, it seems ot be a result of Ronaldo/Nani not tracking on the wings and offerign support to the full back.
So, for at least a game (maybe Japan?) I'd like to see Fergie try something completely new:
------------EVDS-------------
-Raf----Rio------Vidic--Evra-
-------Carrick-Feltch/Ando---
---Tevez---Berbatov--Rooney--
------------Ronaldo----------
Now I know Ronnie doesn't have much experience playing as a CF, and that this is a position where 'feeling' the last man and making intelligent runs is key, btu lord knows none of other forwards do that anyway. Rooney and Tevez will both put in a shift defensively, and both are creative enough to create. Rooney isn't a terrible crosser, though Tevez is limited. Berbatov can then sit in his little hole without marginalising anyone, and act as a foil around which the others buzz about. Plus it gets the 4 most talented players on the pitch together, which should really come good at some point. And even if it doesn't, it's not like it could produce less attackign intent than the last few games...
