Manchester United Thread

I disliked watching you guys play, you just looked like 11 big named players on the pitch against a 3rd division team. Like that you won't revalidate any of the titles you won last season.

We were pretty rubbish tonight. Scholes' injury was big for us and I can't believe it didn't get a yellow. Not that it would really make me feel better, but still such a piss thing to do, fall, lose the ball so kick out.

Any team that hasn't been able to play their XI consistently is going to look off until they have time to gel. We had moments of real class mixed with a lot of crap. Nani in particular was a liability and would have been subbed if not for 3 injuries. Plus Berba and Ronaldo barely had a preseason so couldn't run the 90.

We'll start kicking into gear soon, I'm sure of it :) And when we do it, should be rather pleasing on the eyes methinks...

Its the Champions League. There are no rubbish team in it.The way you see it is totally rubbish.Revalidate?? You mean when we play against smaller teams this year dosent justify that we are worthy champions of england and europe last year?? Thats just not right man...

I guess we were intimidated last night in the first half.Never settled down till we got the goal.

Scholes injury will be a blow to us as we still need him in some crucial games.Hope its really two weeks rather than longer.

I'm really delighted for Berba after his two goals. Those goals were the catalyst needed to kickstart his campaign. He is progressing well despite a lack of a proper pre-season training.

Onwards to the weekend as we meet the Guvnor's boys!!!

10 weeks without Scholes is a mixed bag of emotions for me.

On the one hand, the guys passing is always sublime, and he usually provides the killer pass.

On the other hand, he's looked completely past it lately. Especially against Liverpool and Chelsea.

We shall see, but we'll struggle in midfield 'cause Hargo and Carrick are out as well.

I really really think Berbatov is hurting United and should not be starting. He hasn't gelled with the team, and that hurts the offensive dynamic. Tevez should play instead.
I like how you said that and then he went on to score 2 goals. :-pp
But yeah, I see what you mean. We need a more mobile striker, not someone like Berba. I don't think its gonna work if we work a system around Berbatov. We're gonna need Berba to get off his arse and work within our current system instead. He showed a few neat passes here and there but he's gonna have to start running at the pace of Tevez and Ronaldo when attacking. At this rate when we're counter attacking, Berba will still be in our own half by the time Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez have made it into the opposing team's box. This is why Saha still had a place in our squad for so long and Smith didnt.

I don't think you need everyone running around like headless chickens for it to work, I think Berba has the necessary attributes to still flourish in our system. He's alright at holding it up as people run past him, plus he can pick a pass (see him and Keane's interactions) as the runner gets by. He also has the skill necessary to just use one touch, which makes up for some speed. He's also not slow, just chooses his moments a bit.

I think he'll be a success, and for all his endeavour, a lot more effective than Carlito. But I still love the lil Argentinian.

We need atleast 3 quick players in the team to counter attack the way we do. Its how we do it almost everytime. One player runs at the defence, plays it wide to the second player, then he squares it or crosses it to the third player. Its what's become our typical counter attacking move. But to sum it up, the players need to be mobile and able to be in the right positions as quick as possible. This is why Fletcher has been doing so well recently. Look at how far forward he gets for all of his goals. And the timing for his runs are spot on.
Berbatov only shows his quality when he happens to be in the right place and the ball is played to his feet. I guess if Nani ups his game then he'd make up for Berba's mobility while still allowing Berba to be in the XI at the same time. I'm not saying he doesnt bring anything to the side, its just that its a different style from one thats already worked for us (and helped us to the title and the European Cup).

I can see Berbatov playing a little like Mark Hughes did. Holding up the ball and playing in the fast players with a killer pass. I don't think he'll score too many himself, but Hughes was never prolofic anyway.

Spot on IMO. What worries me is that Ronaldo is still going to be our biggest goal scorer in that system, and he is still halfway to Madrid.

As someone above said, this could be a big time for Fletch. He's getting to be the right age for midfielder, and is displaying glimpses of value. With our attacking 4 we dont' necessarily need a skillful or technically gifted second midfield player, and with Hargo yet to play two games in a row and Anderson still being raw, I think maybe he'll be our best (only) choice. I've been impressed with him this season, am optimistic he'll come good.

That was me, too :-pp
Park can play a big part, too. Both he and Fletcher are good at breaking up opponents play. If they stay pretty central and feed the wings then I'm not too worried about our midfield really. Hopefully Possebon will be back soon. Rafael is coming on, I think our attacking play will get even better with him and Evra overlapping.

I believe Fletcher would keep his place in the starting 11 if he keeps this form of his up,really found his game this season.

I hope Rafael gets a good run too in the first team.Never looked out of place against Aalborg.Whats good too see is that the 'elders' always want to 'use' him and passes to him all the time.

Should be 3 points if we bring it to Blackburn tomorrow. They will be aggressive and we have to counter that with our fast paced game.

I admire your confidence phrase, but the fact remains that Blackburn are our bogey team, and especially at Ewood Park. We never, ever seem to get a decent result there.

Still, I'm hoping maybe this year s different as I can only see us for the title really.

They are our bogey team but so is Bolton and Boro and we have beaten both teams now, albeit one in the carling cup...Like I say, they will impose an aggressive game like always. It seems that that is the only way they know on how to beat us.

I believe our game now is too fast for them and with Berba upfront, they have a new animal to deal with.

I'm always confident for United.*wink*

Fuckin' 5.30 kick off... that's 2.30am here. Bastards! Why can't they kick off at 3.00? Once so far this season, that's it. Fuckin Sky TV. Wankers. Looks like I'll have to stay up again. The wife will kill me.

I have the same problem minus the wife Maru! It'll show at 12.25am here in SG on StarSports and Planet Football...After that I'll stay up a bit more to watch Barca vs Atletico in the wee hours of the morning.FOOTBALL CRAZY.

C'MON UNITED!!

Well, managed to make my dad sod off so I could watch us.

We're carving Blackburn open all the time. Playing some lovely stuff, and I'm amazed at how much Berba is actually moving.

Ronaldo's pissing me off though.

It was a good win...4 wins in a row now and we are certainly clicking into gear. This game made me realise how piss poor Blackburn is without Brad Friedel! He used to be the brickwall between the posts and stepped up his game whenever Rovers played us.Now all they got in goal is some fat bloke.Who ate all the pies?

Anderson played a masterstroke today.Never seems to put a foot wrong.Very tidy and very smart, simple play.Fletcher complimented him well too. These two are starting to cement that central midfield berth lately. At least till Carrick,Hargreaves and Scholes returns.

Wayne Rooney. He is pretty much off form.Dosent score much goals and can be critically lazy.NOT.

A very good win,got the fans singing in the rain.Could have at least scored a couple more.Berba still have to wait for his first league goal and he'd have to wait till the 18th for another sniff.Bummer.

C'MON UNITEDDDD!!!

Won at a canter today, and so funny to hear the amount of stick "The Guv'nor" got off the fans, Berba put in a good shift and seemed to realise that he can't just hover around the box,The whole team played well enough but for me Rooney was exceptional.Being A Burnley lad,the win must have been even sweeter for Mickey Phelan.

The whole team played well but for me Giggs in that central position kept things clicking over nicely.
