Manchester United Thread

The facts that Bingham67 posted were kinda true but we've got to back them up big time.It will be a hard game and Chelsea must be very happy that they are playing us,when we are on a poor run.A draw is a more realistic shout but a win at the Bridge would be extra ordinary.

Fergie's got a problem this weekend in who he selects. It's clear from last weekend that Rooney on the right wing is ineffective and a waste of his ability and now with Ronaldo back he's gotta make a decision how he plays our 4 main attackers or who he leaves on the bench now that it looks like Cristiano will start. This isn't any old game, if he plays 4-2-3-1 and leaves our midfield exposed Chelsea have a midfield capable of destroying us. I'd say Hargreaves has to start this game, his qualities will be needed big time to break up their passing. I'm not too confident but I think if we play the right team and pull out the stops we can get something.

The midfield for us is a massive problem against Chelsea. We have no muscle in there at the moment. I'd like to see Fletcher in there as he can give a bit of shit out. In a battle, Scholes will end up being sent off. It's going to be really tough and I can't see us getting anything.
Bright side is, we've played three of our (probably) 5 toughest away games already. No reason why we can't go on a long winning run soon.

You are right there about our lack of 'muscle' in midfield. It is scary to think that Chelsea had lost Essien, their pivotal midfielder and yet they look every bit impressive.I think Hargreaves,Anderson and Fletcher should start tmrw in a 3 man midfield with Hargo playing the holding role.Brown to partner Rio in the middle with Gaz and Evra as fullbacks.Rooney,Tevez and Ronaldo to start upfront.

@ Phrase: think you're exactly right in the formation. Wouldn't mind Scholes and Giggs being used as they should be - impact subs. We've all seen the way Scholes runs the opening 20-25 minutes of matches before he gets tuckered out, I think he should be used in the same duration, but towards the end of a match, when the opponents midfield is knackered. I think we should actually play tight and high tempo, try to keep it tight for as long as possible. Maybe we'll nick something but I doubt it the way things have been going.

It'll be interesting to see Ronaldo v Cole. Ashley used to play really well against him but with Ronnie just back and Cole a shadow of his Arsenal days, could be a pretty even dual. I think we'll leave the Roovez/Ronaldo trio up front and hope that forces Chelsea to keep Boswinga and Cole back, as any of those 3 can easily outpace Terry/Carvalho.

I think if Chelsea score early we're absolutely f*cked and it could be a thumping. But if we can keep it tight, they'll know a draw damages them more than us and we might be able to get something on the counter. Either way, I don't expect a great match. Crossing fingers and hoping for a point.

I reckon Rooney will miss out, Just my thoughts but you never now we have a lot of possibilites up top but Hargo is guaranteed to start with SAF to either go with 2 or 3.

I expect Ronaldo to play on the left everytime we're up against Cole. We've done it before and its almost always worked.
Me personally would play Evans with Rio and have Brown at RB. If you look at Chelsea's formation, they dont use wingers. Cole and Bosingwa will be providing all the width which means we don't really need both our wingers and fullbacks attacking. We'll just need our wingers to attack while Evra and Brown/Gary hold their ground. A tight back four and a three man midfield should be enough to contain them which means our remaining three forwards shouldnt have much tracking back to do.
I know this Chelsea side is arguably the toughest yet but I think they suit us better than last season.

Could be right Rune, Boswinga loves running down the line and isnt the best of defenders either from what I've seen. Ronny may get some joy there. Im still unsure of either to go with Fletcher or Anderson. Anderson for me is the more talented but you have to take notice of Fletch's current form.

Evans did well against Villareal but to be fair they hardly attacked and the one time they did they should have scored but I reckon he'll start.

Jonny Evans did nothing convincing to say the least. He was just being Rio's shadow most of the game against villareal.Lets see how he fares in the Carling Cup before we start building him up for first team games.Having said all these,Evans must have did something special to convince Sir Alex not to ship him out during the transfer window.

Jonny's a good player, very consistent for the Northern Ireland national team and did well with Sunderland over two loan periods. So good that Roy wanted him back permenant.

I think it would be better to start with Fletcher because of his form and the fact that he seems to show up the most during the big games. Plus Anderson is a much better option to bring off the bench than Fletcher is.

I'm still unsure about Evans.Maybe its because the partnership of Rio and Vida is so balanced and tough that when you see someone of a lesser ability playing alongside either one of them, you get pretty critical.I'm still sure it will be Brown playing alongside Rio today.

About the midfield,it will be a 3 man layout.Hargo,Fletch and Ando will start. These three can match anything Chelsea have to offer.

Somehow I am silently growing in confidence over this game.

You missed out Scholes. Hargo and Fletch can do the running for Scholes to control the game :))

EDIT: Am I the only one loving the underdog tag, Seems so much stress free to normal when were expected to win. We can go out there give it a go and see what happens :))

Yeah the underdog bit is a strange feeling, but a good one. I think Scholes would be more effective brought on after 60-70 minutes or so. He fades out of games these days so if he can come on towards the end and start picking out runs with some great passes when Chelsea are tiring then he'd be more useful.

Oh and Berb and Rooney to start with Ronny and Tevez on the bench. Park, Evans and Hargreaves also start..

Edit: Scholes is starting so obviously Fergie disagrees with me  AND NO ANDERSON IN THE TEAM FULL STOP.

Hmm well we've got some pretty impressive impact subs to come on. Terry is slow enough as it is, imagine how he'll cope with Ronaldo and Tevez coming on towards the end of the game.

Strange team SAF is putting out today. No Tevez? Still no Ronaldo? And Evans starting in such a big game?

Looking forward to this, should be a good game :))

Don't know what I'm most excited about: the match against Chelski or the 4 minute add of Fifa 09 during half time... :D

Typical from us once again imo should of won game its just same old from us when leave game 1-0 like this and dont kill off happened so many times before. And this is what happens always same thing i said to friend first half after we scored need more then one here or Chelsea will eventually score.

Rooney was awful sooner he dropped better and soon as Kuszczak sold the better cant stand him as keeper. Another set play we conceed from what a surprise when will we learn defending was just plain shocking once again.

Riley ruined game aswell stop start alot of yellows were dubious fair play to Chelsea though played better second half. But we should of had game wrapped up first half when we was on top so overall final result no surprise to me.

Redknapp "Rooney was brilliant today" haha what game was he watching.

I thought Rooney was good as well to be honest, a lot better than Berbatov anyway that's for sure. His passing and movement was good and he was doing a lot of chasing and linking the play well, he just lost his head a bit towards the end, but he was definitely one of our better players today. Hargreaves was our MOTM for me though.

His passing was good ? countless times he misplaced passes and when he should of kept ball he never did he wasted it and Fergie gave him bullocking for it.

He also had jelly legs in decent positions kept falling over Berbatov was worse but imo Rooney wasnt much better.

He been poor in last few games and never deserved place ahead of Tevez today who was best player on park against Liverpool.

Hes been poor because rightly so hes getting fed up playing out of position!

He looked more comfortable today and at the end of the day SAF has stifled Rooney to accomadate Tevez!!!

Remamber Rooney behind Saha 2 seasons ago..awesome!!

Ye but its not just this season he been poor guy dont deliver enough its shame because he has way more potential then he shows.
