Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!
Gary Neville is deceptively fast. It was actually really strange watching United last season (and bits of the season before) without him, because he has been such a solid player for so many years. His delivery is actually very good, and he seems to have limitless energy, over the years he is always making overlapping runs into the 90th minute. The big question about his fitness is valid, but he's had a whole year of doing nothing but running - hopefully stamina won't be his problem! We made it all the way through last season with Wes Brown as RB, and the only attribute I'd give him over Gary is heading ability, and even then Gary's superior positioning means it's pretty tight.
Anyway my point is that I would take even an older Gary over Wes at RB any day. Hopefully I won't look like a fool come August!
Milanista - You know you're probably right. And given all this fuss about Ronaldo and the massive striker signings going on all over the place, maybe the best thing United can do is consolidate the team they have, and that can be Fergie's message - you're good enough already. No doubting that with CR7 out the spirit of the squad will be one of the most together in Europe, the only player I have any doubts about is Nani, and even he seems a bit more subdued then CR7.
We could use some defensive cover - did anyone watch enough of Johnny Evans to know if he's good enough?
