Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

Affelay and Engelaar impressed me for the dutch, obviously Villa we all know about so not many suprise's there. So far i dont think we'll sign anyone unless someone leaves us.

I have a sneaky feeling we might be in the market for a backup defender. Sunderland are hoping to sign Johnny Evans, but since Pique left we won't sell unless we have cover.
We won't be signing a keeper as Kuszczak has signed a new contract (I can hear you all whooping for joy ;)))

As good as Villa is, would it be worth us going for him? He's very similar to Rooney & Tevez...

We might have a fight on our hands to sign Portugese players now Chelsea have Scolari as their new manager!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

The only thing similar between Rooney/Tevez and Villa are their short stature. Their game is totally different.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

Bugger, with Scolari taking over at Chavski, you can bet his first order of business is to ensure Ronaldo departs to the sunny shores of spain. Fair enough, makes sense, but is annoying nonetheless!

Heard l'Arse are after Santa Cruz, and that Saha might be off (doubtful IMO)...does anyone know when exactly Fergie is gonna finish his trip off and get into the market...?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

imo the less big signings, the better your season will be. There arent any problems with the current United squad, I mean you won the two major trophies you could win. You only need subs, and I doubt people like Huntelaar, Santa Cruz etc want to be subs for an already strong team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

There arent any problems if Ronaldo doesnt leave. If he leaves, I think we'll need a major signing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

We've also got a few faces pushing for the first team from the reserves (Possebon, Welbeck, Cathcart), as well as the Twins & Manucho.

I'm a bit concerned about the RB position. SAF said Neville will be no.1 choice next season, but I'm worried about his pace (don't laugh!). Wes & Evra can bomb up and down the pitch, but will he be able to after being out for a year?
That said, the season will start and he'll be fine!

Hopefully we'll wrap up the Tevez deal soon as well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

Gary Neville is deceptively fast. It was actually really strange watching United last season (and bits of the season before) without him, because he has been such a solid player for so many years. His delivery is actually very good, and he seems to have limitless energy, over the years he is always making overlapping runs into the 90th minute. The big question about his fitness is valid, but he's had a whole year of doing nothing but running - hopefully stamina won't be his problem! We made it all the way through last season with Wes Brown as RB, and the only attribute I'd give him over Gary is heading ability, and even then Gary's superior positioning means it's pretty tight.

Anyway my point is that I would take even an older Gary over Wes at RB any day. Hopefully I won't look like a fool come August!

Milanista - You know you're probably right. And given all this fuss about Ronaldo and the massive striker signings going on all over the place, maybe the best thing United can do is consolidate the team they have, and that can be Fergie's message - you're good enough already. No doubting that with CR7 out the spirit of the squad will be one of the most together in Europe, the only player I have any doubts about is Nani, and even he seems a bit more subdued then CR7.

We could use some defensive cover - did anyone watch enough of Johnny Evans to know if he's good enough?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

The thing with Gary is that he's a lot smarter than our other right backs cuz he knows when to use his legs. He might not be as fast but he'll make runs and track back at the right times which is vital when we have Evra on the other side who's more attack minded.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

I've given up on Ronaldo know:(, its a shame but his head isnt with us therefore even if he will be wearing red next year he wont be the same. the one thing has actually piss's me of is, if he actually gave two shits for the club he would say "ok im off and im telling you this now so you lot can prepare" rather than "yeh il decide on the last day of the windows so if i leave you lot are fucked bye" like cmon? surely he should atleast give us that. Gaz Neville has IMO 1 more season in him after that we should look to change but that ok for next season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

Ronaldo is 'all white'
Portuguese ace jokes over white kit

Cristiano Ronaldo showed that he has not lost his sense of humour amid all the speculation that he may join Real Madrid by stating that he liked Portugal's all white kit.

The Manchester United superstar told Spanish journalists that he suited the Portuguese away strip that they wore during the 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic.

After scoring a goal and being heavily involved in the other two, Ronaldo was still asked about his future after the game and opted to see the lighter side..

"I like a white kit," he said to the reporters, who all thought they may have an exclusive. "The white kit of the national team that is."

Funny guy, that Ronaldo

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

Cheeky.Obviously he has intentions of leaving, otherwise why would he let this big circus go on and on infront of the whole world. If he wants to say,he would shut the world up by proclaiming his integrity with United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

I think Saha should be shipped out no matter what. Maybe loan him to a French team for a season then sell him for a million. Manucho could replace him by just playing half a dozen games.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

I hope Ronaldo is just messing with us. But like YoungGun said, it'll be hard for me to forgive him after this. Unless he came out and said something along the lines of "I want to stay here in Manchester and retire at this club". Its reached a point now where it'll just feel like he's doing us a favour if he stays.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

Exactly, i wont be a bit suprised if he's in a red shirt next season but the fact he's pretty much toying with us is just taking the piss. He may be the best player in the world and i'll be the first one celebrating if he scores for us but i doubt i'll be praising him anywhere near as i have in the past and doubt there will be many "Viva Ronaldo" chants. No ones bigger than Man Utd and for that reason we SHOULD sell yet the club have already said they wont no matter what the offer.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

It was strange watching him play for Portugal as I felt he wasn't ours anymore. I think he has become too big. (in his own head as well)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

Yeh know what you mean Mate, seemed like i was watching Ronaldo in the eyes of another club fan.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

I agree completely. It's reached the point where I say take the most we can get from Real and send him packing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

We should take the 75m and reinvest - never has there been a more attractive transfer market, so may good players available. Howvwere we should sign players before we agree to sell ronaldo cos all we will do is push the prices in our face. If ronaldo goes for 75m, quaresma will be 35m/40m, robinho 30m - when at the moment you could probably knock 10m off both.

we have to be very astute otherwise we could end up losing our biggest asset and not maximising the reinvestment of cash on theback of it.

personally my feelings towards ronaldo have changed, he is not a club man - no hard feelings but i no longer "love "the fella in the way i do rooney, scholes, giggs. how he can cuddle fergie after the champs final and then so blatantly disrespect him is disgusting. thanks for the service, thanks for the 75m but see you later. a couple of games in spain where he doesnt show and the fans will turn quicker than sour milk, whistles, white hankerchiefs....could destroy him. cant believe he'd leave the stability of united for that.

there is still the possibility that this is all press hype in order to create some interest cos england arent in the euro's but its looking less likely by the day.

rant over.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - 68' 99' 08' European Champions!!!!!!!!

How old are the brazilian twins? Any chance of seeing them next season?

Some Italian sources say Inter have already signed him for 23m euros. He will be joining Mourinho and Figo.

Anyone see what the Spanish papers posted?

Apparently its Ronaldo and his agent discussing the move to Madrid. Smells like BS to me, like the Kaka pic they posted last year. It looks so fake! If United were to let him go, I doubt they would've reported this to FIFA.

That article about Davide Petrucci is very interesting. The transfer may be labelled as "Stealing a Star"...but its perfectly legal.Big ups to our scouts for spotting such a talent, rarely so in Italy also.

Best part about the article was a quote by Patrice Evra after he extended his contract till 2013 woth 75K pounds per week."United is more than a club, it is a family," said Evra. "I'm proud to be a part of it."

Allez Allez Patrice!!
