Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread, 5 points clear + 7 games left = 10th Prem T
i have to say i really disagree with most of u guys....
u lot seem to be disappointed by the performance, while actually this was probably one of the best matches manchester played in the last 2 seasons!!!!!!
i know most of the fan today (the so called, "playstation generation") think that barcelona is a team,, they would like to see 11 cristiano ronaldos playing for their team, even in defence; they think football is all about pace and that u can establish how good is a team just by looking how many shots on goal the team does in a match....
the same fans who think that brazil is a hell of a team, or that italy is just a "solid" (i love this word

) defensive team..... the same ones who still don't realise why england still doesn't play on the same level of the "big guys".... the same ones who think that "the premiership is the best league in tha world....
POWAAAA!!

.
nontheless, the more u watch\play football, the more u learn about the game... so it should be time to grow up, to get rid of theese funny stereotypes, and start reading a game properly.
there's no glory in beating a non-existing roma 7-1 or in destroying aston villa or newcastle, by scoring loads of goals.... theese matches don't prove anything, except that u can play good football, when your opponents kindly let u do whatever u want to do.
yesterday instead was different. u played against a football team, which was trying to play football, as much as u. u were playing the away leg of a quarter final, but still u couldn't notice any kind of pressure on the players. no hurry, no worries, they were just focused on their gameplan (wich was absolutely PERFECT!) and they applied it with an impressive coolenss and accuracy.
first of all, yesterday man utd didn't sit back at all! at the end of the match they had 12 shots (exactly as as much as roma's shots). they weren't defensive, neither boring; they were aware they were playing against one of the most dangerous teams europe, in one of the most passionate stadia in europe, and played EXACTLY the football they had to play; letting roma unleash their fury, trying to keep taddei and mancini out of the game, looking for a chance to hurt them, waiting the right moment to hit, and then taking advantage of some key situations (like the 2nd goal).
u might get more excited by watching manchester destroying aston villa, but the truth is that that's not real football.... yesterday manchester played against a team wich is almost on the same level, on their turf. if u did expect them to play the same football they play in premiership, then u're fools. it would have been a disgraceful loss for manchester.... but of course sir alex is not silly, he knows the game, he knows roma, and he knew he had to try something different to get a result.
yesterday sir alex proved that an english team can play a clever football. that also the premiership players can play keeping their heads up, looking at the pitch and at their teammates (instead of playing looking down at the ball between their own foot).
yesterday sir alex proved that english teams don't always played that "stupid fooball" (i know, Don Domenico's statement was a bit harsh, but still quite appropriate, u must admit).... he proved that english football is not just "get the ball and run as fast as u can towards the goal" or "get either the ball or the opponent's leg and then hoof the ball for the striker"....
so shall we say yesterday manchester played the italian way? Yes i do think so..... and for those u didn't realise it, this is a huge compliment.
u were almost perfect yesterday.... u were also a bit lucky, that's for sure.... roma wasted a lot of chances (perrotta was badly missed by roma yesterday), but this doesn't decry manchester's defensive performance, wich was simply stunning. trouble is, that u just can't nullify roma's attack, it's impossible to truly control or contain them, when they start playing their football.
so hats off to manchester for the football your team played and the personality the red devils showed yesterday :applaud:
congrats lads
