Manchester United Thread

What are you on mate? Sir Alex bought Carrick for a reason and he is a sure starter if he is fit.Other than Scholes,no other player holds the ball and then distributes it better than Carrick in Man United.Scholes,Carrick and Hargreaves have pivotal role in the United midfield and in a perfect world,I would start these three together in the centre.

I agree but if he is after Velaso its for either Carrick or Scholes.

I was just saying mate chill. We have loads of midfielders already.

I can't believe the nonsense some of you post.

Hargreaves was brought in to put pressure on Carrick's place and to provide cover in the side.

Anderson was brought in to eventually replace Scholes.

Nani was brought in to eventually replace Giggs.

It's as simple as that. Carrick and Scholes are going NO WHERE. Stop the bullsh*t speculation, you are worse than our tabloids. :)

Miguel Veloso plays in the same position as Carrick/Hargreaves. They are both young, so I don't see that happening (signing Veloso) unless you sell one of them.

Speculation galore is all it is. Fergie has the players he needs, he has already stated this. We need a striker and that's it. We don't want to do a Chelsea/Liverpool and sign, sign, sign - it doesn't always work. We have a good squad who are getting to know each other well - why ruin that?

Totally agree mate but i do think we need a "proper" striker and that kid that we've been recently linked to seems like more of a Rooney,Tevez type of striker, not saying he's as aggressive like them but the positioning and the way he WANTS to score, rather than standing by the post all day:D

Yeah that's what I was thinking.. Huntelaar isn't anything like Tevez or Rooney, but he said "we need a "proper" striker" so I assume he means right now and I don't think Jovetic, an unproven/unknown 17 year old would be much good for United just yet!

Huntelaar is a machine. Surely somebody's got to give him the chance to prove he can score in another league soon. He's been consistently banging them in for Heerenveen & Ajax and he's 24 now so it can't be long before someone snaps him up.

I would have thought it highly unlikely that Ferguson would ever play all three unless injuries forced that to happen. What you are talking about there is a midfield three and Ferguson has never played a midfield three, being a huge advocate of wide men and of 4-4-2 and variants of that system. Ferguson has Hargreaves as cover for Carrick, can switch between the two depending upon the side he faces and Scholes is the player ahead of either of those two...and like someone said Anderson is cover for Scholes given his age and Nani is the same for Giggs. Ferguson is giving himself options. If Anderson does not work out he could even push Carrick into the Scholes position as Scholes ages and drop Hargreaves in behind Carrick....options is the point.

Yeh mate i was talking about that 17 year old kid, Huntelaar would be exactly what we need in someways but then i rather wouldnt want to go back to the Ruud days when either he scored or we didnt :)

I'm not sure United need a striker - yes Solskjaer's gone and Saha's injury prone but they've got Rooney, Tevez, Saha and Dong as strikers, and then Ronaldo, Anderson, Giggs, Nani etc who could fill in if there was an injury crisis.

What part would Huntelaar play if Saha was playing like he did at the start of last season and stayed injury free with Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo all flying in with goals and assists from all angles?

As mentioned above, the arrival of ten Cate as well as Chelsea's lack of goals could see him ending up there.

I doubt most people had heard of Jotevic before his name was mentioned in the paper this week, I certainly hadn't. So I can't see him making any difference to any plans to sign a striker.

We need a striker end of mate. We play better with one. Huntelaar will go to Chelsea. SAF has missed the boat there so onto the next option.

We have played well with no cutting edge due to no striker imo.

I really hope we could get Eto'o though, even though i think Huntelaar is class i think Eto'o is on another level. the was simply genious in his first two season's at Barca and with Henry there and Bojan Krkic coming up i think we have a chance of bringing Eto'o

We won't get Eto'o. Not in January anyway. Barcelona depend on him more than they make out.

I love this thread. Talks of Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Huntelaar etc joining United . . . we have the right squad already. Like I keep saying, why fuck things up when they are going well? Take a leaf out of Wenger's book - WORK with the squad you have.

Look at Liverpool and Chelski - all that money, all them players. But both teams play boring football and look average because no-one on the field knows each other well enough. Throwing big-named players left, right and centre isn't always the answer. As a United supporter I am more concerned at who will take over from Fergie, not when our next overrated 17 year old midfielder is due.

Lol mate i doubt we'd get him in January , i was thinking more of our big summer buy seeing as we need one striker with that scoring ability but also having the pace, skill etc, but anyone similar to what Eto'o does would be a good signing

Some things bein thrown in here sounds like a certainty but I beg to differ.

Currently I agree with some of you here saying that we have the right squad to challenge season 07/08.

I also agree with some of you saying that we need a proper striker. We actually have that proper striker in the form of Louis Saha. The thing is,everybody knows how fragile Saha is and it is only a matter of time before Sir Alex gives up on him.Its a big assumption that Sir Alex will give up on him, thus all these reports of a new striker signing for us.

I think our club hasnt signed a proven superstar ever since Juan Veron. We also have learnt that those kind of signings will not work for us long ago.As far as I can recall, all the signings we have made are huge potentials, team players and starlets.I believe this trend will continue as long as Sir Alex is in charge. The team he has build so far hasnt got a player that is bigger than the team itself and even if it has,it will be sorted out.Just ask Paul Ince,David Beckham and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

I watched Miguel Veloso against Khazakstan and I must say that he is a strong player.Wins and holds the ball well in the middle, takes mean freekicks,I cant recall another defensive midfielder who is a deadball specialist now and is very disciplined in role in the team.

However, having said all that,we already have a similar player to M.Veloso in Owen Hargreaves.

Unless Sir Alex wants another defensive midfielder to cover Hargreaves,I dont think we will sign him.I rest my case.

Villa away at the weekend. It's gonna be a TOUGH one lads. If we get 3 points there it will definately be a BIG sign that United are one of the favourites again this season.

We havent lost a league game at Villa Park since 1995.Having said that,Villa has gone from strength to strength and its by no way an easy game.I am however confident of all 3 points for us...C'mon United.

I wouldn't be so sure of beating Villa. They battered Chelsea 2-0 remember. I think we'll sneak it - JUST.

Just a quick shout out to our friend Antred, dont ever have the bollocks to come in this thread and spout off about dodgy refereeing decisions going United's way ever again. The game at Goodison today was a fucking disgrace. Stevie " i never dive " Gerrard went down like a sack of spuds and then talked the referee into sending Hibbet off, then Kuyt gets away with a better karate kick than King Eric's.And what about Carragher's two wrestling moves on Lescott in the penalty area? Absolute shocker , might as well have had Max Benitez refereeing this one.

WOOOOOO ROONEY! camon United great end to the first half 3-1 lets bag in a few more, hopefully Rooney gets his hatrick, was thinking it was gonna be one of those games when Villa scored early, but seems like a great comeback:)

Clear pen he was hanging on his shirt but not sure how anyone saw that from that angle I have to give it to Garragher , he pulled lescott from his left nipple to bring him to the ground
