Dear God... The camera can be so gruel sometimes.

he's a very attractive young man....

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Saha is like Cole in a way. Cole wasn't good enough but he did okay.
Saha is good enough although not world class. For that reason, he is worth keeping as he won't mind being on the bench sometimes

I was about to say Cole was world class but then I remembered that period when he first joined. He couldn't score in a brothel back then

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

even at his peak he wasn't that good.

Everyone forgets what he did at Newcastle.

Anyway him & Yorke were one of our best double acts up front.

Remember the Barcelona goal in the Nou Camp with he dummy??

AWESOME

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

You lot have short memories. Sure, he did well for us, but he wasn't that good a player... nowhere near as good as Ruud, Shearer or Henry. If you remember he couldn't get in the England side because he missed too many opportunities. The amount of chances we created in games, almost any half decent striker would have done just as well. Do you remember that Cantona would not pass to him because he thought he'd do nothing with it?

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

funny when u do bring up Cole...he isn't that great, but did well with Yorke....maybe SAF sees that in Saha, how him and a the world-class line-up behind him can help him become better or actually finish those attacks.......

but great to see Tevez practising with us already, doubt he'll show tomorrow vs Chelsea, but what a game it will be....sorry, but i still think we really need to strengthen up our defense...especially if Heinze really will leave, i don't have enough confidence on Evra yet....

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

15 minutes to kick off and the Chavs lost Drogba and Terry to injuries.Thats a big plus for us and we should win this for the kids.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

We wont win it now. Malouda equalises and they are doing nothing but diving! especially everytime Cashley Cole is going for a challenge with a player... he chucks himself to the floor!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I don't think there's been too much diving. Rooney's yellow was bollocks unless it was something he said. Pretty good game so far.

EDIT - Good game. Liked Malouda and Wright-philips. Chelsea could be good to watch this year, as well as us and Arsenal. Just need the scousers to stop being so boring and it'll be a great season.

Malouda looks very good. Bit worried to be honest.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Yeah, Malouda looked very good. I don't think he's gonna make that big a difference though. Having seen that today, I agree about needing a proper striker, even if we did look decent going forward.

Definately wasn't expecting us to win the shootout though, especially with three English players taking our first three penalties.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

wow......Van der Sar went wild today!!! in terms of WE, he's totally red!! HAHAHAHA...

but yea, with the new guys in, i think other than a decent striker, defense we still need someone to back-up for Evra....

any videos of the goals by the way??

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I was just thinking. We played with Evra on the wing and Silvestre at LB. If Heinze was patient, that would have been him playing.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Rune- exactly what I was thinking. Silvestre would NEVER start over Heinze. And it's clear that Fergie didnt' trust Evra, though I thought he did okay against SWP in the second.

Questions from the match:
How long it will it take Nani to find his first touch?
Why does Rooney get booked for reputation alone?
Since scorign against Portsmouth last year, has Ronaldo had a single one of his 3,413 free kicks actually on target?
Was Frank Lampard playing?
Was Michael Carrick playing?
Why is there so much crap about Chelsea being devestated by injury. I'm sorry, but the only two players who would have been on were Terry and Drogba. Important, but 9/11 of a first team isn't some reserves side

Happy with the win, but doesn't mean anything...onwards to Sunday!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

If Sir Alex did not trust Evra...Silvestre wouldnt have been substituted,Evra would. He is definitely our first choice left back now and I agree,Evra did contain SWP better than Silvestre.

Nani had a problem with his boots when he just came in.Lost balance a couple of times before deciding to lace on his favourite pair.

Rooney gets booked for reputation alone because at times, usually when he is in a fiery mood, this reputation preceeds him.

Ronaldo's freekick technique is all about power and pace but not placement. Its a bonus if they go in.We should see a little Argentinian taking over freekick duties soon.

Fat Frank did play in a non attacking midfield.

Michael Carrick also played but lacked fitness and awareness. We didnt see him much as he did not move forward too often.

Its kinda worrying to realise that Chelsea is still hard to breakdown even without their first eleven.

The win is a great boost for the team, especially for the new lads and the fledglings. To get off on a winning start is important and this would be a template for the coming season.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Only saw the first hald yesterday, nobody carried the ball with qualtity from defence to offence. You're missing the Anderson factor. :)

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Funniest thing was seeing Fergie struggling to carry the shield down the stairs after all the players fucked off and left him.

thats because they had to field silvestre, brown and oshite...

once scholes, hargreaves, neville, heinze gets sorted, it will look much better....

Nice to see Hargreaves and Anderson join in the celebrations in the lockers.

Its nice looking at that pic and seeing so many young faces on there. And most are quality players too.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

stupid, yes
agressive, yes
dirty, no

Oh rubbish. Rooney's aggressive AND reckless. He never considers whether he might injure the other guy, and lets also not forget he went after Carvalho's balls in the World Cup. If you're reckless whether you might injure a guy, that's the same as intending to injure a guy.

Like if I see in a tackle I can get the ball but run my studs over your knees, I wouldn't do it, even if I can get the ball first. Rooney would, and that's dirty. Doesn't matter your intent, if you can see you'd injure a guy and still do it, you're playing a dirty game.

On the Shield, you lot deserved it, there was good play all around. Chelsea's goal came from a single moment of isolated brilliance by Malouda. Wasn't deserved for all the pussy-footing they were doing all game. If you lot could let go of this pipedream that Rio Ferdinand is a premiership defender, you could really put out a fearsome defensive unit.

yes rio is not a premiership defender, your a joke with making ridiclous statements like that.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

yeah, i think Ferdinand is one of the best CB in England....with Terry as well....won't take him out for sure...Malouda's goal was really nicely done.........

Suprised you forgot to mention Ashley Coles diving and Joe Coles dirty foul on C Ronaldo... ah well.
