Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

thats debatable.... saviola misses so many close chances, alot like saha.. where have you seen him play, I might ask?

Barca are usually on every weekend, and if not, then Revista is on anyways during the weekdays. So I've seen him when he got that run in the side, seemed to do pretty well for himself when he got the chance

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

yeah and he missed a ton as well... im not so sure about him in a united jersey

lol thats true...

I dont think he's gonna sign anyway....

The papers are now saying Smith wont be offered a new contract and Saha looks to be on his way out...

Perfect replacements would be Gudjohnsen and Anelka....

Just reading on Sky Sports News that Ben Foster his having an op on his cruciate and will miss most of next season...

Shame that, was looking forward to seeing hw he copes at OT...

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Smith's a tough one for me. Definitely has the right attitude, but i've not seen a single performance since his return showing that he has the right skills to go along with it. I would love it to be different but really, what are his skills:
Clinical finishing - has scored once since come back
Heading - Watched England game, not sure he managed to connect in 3/4s of a game
Holding ball up - He's not bad at this, but doesn't seem able to then play penetrative ball, just backwards
General offensive link up - Certainly not his strong suit
Speed of break - ditto

The things he does well - hustles defenders, gets stuck in, brings physical presence - are all well and good, but if he's not getting goals...

That said if I was SAF I'd give him til January, can't really hurt anyone and gives him a whole summer off to get some speed back.

I want Ruud back. :(

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

He just came back from a major injury. How can you judge him based on the few games he's played? Have you even counted the amount of games he had? He only played 6 games in the league (half of them off the bench).
Theres no point in getting a replacement cuz he probably wont do much better in the same amount of games either.

what if the replacement is rossi?

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

He scored quite a few goals in Serie A. We should give him some games.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I dont really know how to sum up Alan Smith...I mean the boy definitely has heart and passion to play for us but its not always all about that.Without being too blunt,United might be too big of a club for Smith.Technically all the forwards we have are better than him.His finishing isnt exactly top notch either and he isnt exactly a proven goalscorer, even back in his Leeds days.I think somebody did say this,Smith is best at holding up the ball, back to goal, ruffling up defences, defending from the front and bringing others into play.I also think the reason to why we signed him then was to try to mould him into a Roy Keane.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

why do we need smudge if we have rooney, rossi, ronaldo, saha, ole, all can play up top

Cuz having Smith in the team gives you more variety and options up front. If we're gonna use the same style of players against everyone, we're eventually gonna come up against a defence where it wont work.
And as long as he's regularly getting games, in my opinion we dont have a more mentally prepared striker in our squad when we go into a big must win game. Smith can get the crowd going like no one else can.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

If you ask me Saha is fucking rubbish! Ive said many times before he is all ARMS and LEGS. You pass the ball to him and he miss controls it 9/10! The way we attack just now with Ronaldo and Rooney and Giggs all flowing forward the last thing you need is Saha to lose the ball or be greedy! Im sorry if you ask me Saha should go and we should have never sold Forlan.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I still remember that time when he was playing alongside Rossi and he was getting service from everywhere but couldnt score all the one on ones he had with the keeper.
And then he scores ONE half decent goal outside the box (an area Ruud couldnt score from) and some of you would say "See? He really IS a good player". He's f*ckin shit, get over it.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

People @ OT dont think Saha will be even ready for august, he's not gonna be a United player next season IMO..

Rossi is a great prospect he should get a run but I still reckon that if we can offload Smith and Saha then Anelka and Gudjohnsen would give us wicked attacking options...

Rumours abound that Brown is on his way to Newcastle for around £5mill and is keen on a move, with the highly rated Johnny Evans back from his loan move and the much improved Pique also back @ OT he sees it as good career move...

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

YES...we really should sell off Brown!!!!

hahaha....sorry if i sound mean, but he's so slow and causes so many mistakes, it's not even funny!!! same with Saha...off with him too....as well as Richardson (doubt any teams will want him though....west brom? lolz)

and yeah, still not too keen on the Smith and Heinze rumours...really like these 2 lads, both still need time after devastating injuries...and more games to prove that they are still Man Utd worthy!!! for Heinze, even Starter worthy!!!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I personally think Browns a solid defender, especially if he gets a good run in the team like this season, yeah hes capable of a few errors, but so is the rest of the squad.

I agree with Saha (always have), hes not anywhere near good enough for us

Since when has Brown been slow? He's one of our quickest players. I worry about some of you sometimes.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Hi Guys,

Reading fan here,

Congratulations on winning the prem, you guys have been superb and im exited for the prem with Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves playing for you guys next season.

Was wondering...

Do you guys have the chant' We won the football league again, inside the council house, inside the council house'?

You sang it at the COM when you beat Man City and literally guaranteed the prem... wanted the song to put in my game...

Thought it was rather amusing, plus would annoy my friend :lmao:

i remember when we got saha, and what a year he was having for Fulham at the time. He had something like 18-20 goals before the winter transfer window, or something ridiculous like that. Fulham were chasing a UEFA or CL spot, as soon as he was sold to United, Fulham went to shit and never got that european chance. I think saha has the talent, but i just dont think he has the luck. He has been hurt SO much in a United Kit. I think he could be very efficent for us, but since he cant seem to ever get healthy, i just am saddened bye the fact, he has to go. I agree with bechyryan, i miss ruud. Ruud if your reading, i miss your goal scoring prowess.

Love gomito

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I remember that. Even when he signed for us that season, he continued to score goals at the same rate. But things change all the time. We see one season wonders every year. And as good as Saha was that year, it seems like he'll never be as good as that again. Sure we can give him time but at a club like ours we dont have the time to wait on players like him. Take Rooney or Smith for example. They also go through bad times but unlike Saha, they know when they're having a bad time and will shift their focus onto something else and find a different way of helping the team out when they arent scoring. Which is why you'll see Rooney go through periods where he cant score but get loads of assists and even but in Man of the Match performances without getting on the scoresheet. Smith always keeps defenders on their toes and makes sure they dont go home without a fight.
What does Saha do? Miss some open goals and then we bitch about him. We dont need someone like that.

actually smith is prone to make stupid fouls and get yellow cards, then he contributes to play by only being able to pass backwards. The one thing about saha is that he is really good at winning the 50/50 balls in the air. I honestly would take saha over smith any day of the week. but i know rossi is going to be our man anyways, saha and smith will be sitting pine behind him

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

i dunno, i personally don't like how Brown plays and how with him, our defensive line becomes so weak, he always leaves an area open....

or it's because whenever he plays, some of our solid defenders are injured and that caused what happens, but...i dunno, that's what i feel..

Smith makes more good tackles than bad tackles and he's pretty good in the air too. And he's a much better finisher. Its just that he probably hasnt even played half the amount of games Saha has for us.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Rune, you honestly believe Smith's finishing is better than Saha's? I'm not too sure about that.I was just discussing this very thing with my friend just now.In finishing terms,Saha is better than Smith that is for sure.I mean, come on,Smith wasnt a proven goalscorer at his best.Saha was and he could still be,barring injuries.I cant really call it between this two when it comes to keeping whom.My gut feeling says keep Saha but my heart says Smith.David Gill hinted that we ARE looking into signing a striker before the window closes which is superb news indeed.Lets just wait for La Liga to end and then we will see some interesting activity for sure.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Saha f*cks up all the time. I cant remember Smith missing a one on one opportunity for Man Utd. Sure he doesnt get into goal scoring opportunities as much cuz he cant use his speed to beat the offside trap like Ruud and Saha do but when he's on goal, I'd rather bet £10 on him scoring than £2 on Saha.
And lets think back to the goals that Smith has scored for us. He has scored all kinds of goals from volleys, headers, tap ins, first time shots, etc. Just check up on youtube and they'll all come back to you.
On top of that, Smith has a much higher work rate, sets a better example for the other squad members, is better at getting the crowd behind us, is more fired up for big games, can play is more positions in the squad, his involvement in the first team doesnt change the style or focus of the way we're playing (where as having Saha would mean he'd be the main target man and all crosses and passes will be directed at him), is better at bringing other players into the game and the thing that got me so much respect for him was when he busted his head open to the point where he had blood running down his face and needed stitches but he still insisted on staying on the pitch even though we're a team thats supposed to be rivals of his beloved Leeds United.
I dont care who his replacement is but I can promise you that you'll never find another Alan Smith.

EDIT
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UQD8MPz28Ck&mode=related&search=
If you watch that video, you can clearly see how good his goal scoring ability is. Saha doesnt even come close when it comes to finishing. Saha usually only scores the goals that are handed to him on a silver platter. Very rarely does he score a goal that he deserves full credit for.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

the only things Smith Does better than Saha is shooting at the ref And make stupid tackles all around the pitch And then scream f*** o** At the opponent...
smith is an average player who wouldn't play in a team like Aston Villa
