Manchester United Thread

Haven't had any online donations since I first started asking around, but a few people said to get back to them at a later date so I'll chase those up now :)

And CW now has a job, he can put in as well ;)

You want to donate, Sean? :)

Let you know soon enough I have my induction and training for my new job tomorrow so all being well you'll get a donation tomorrow..

I'm hoping for a goal against Porto! I've already booked to go to the 2nd leg in 2 weeks!

Well...DagsJT...you dont need to eat sour grapes at the moment,we ALL know your gaffer dont have the balls to play your youngsters in crucial matches, that is,if you lot have any!

If you have seen the game and the video,Macheda has it in his locker to finish well with composure,in difficult situations. In that video,he took a surging long ball down with ease with his left peg and finished it without breaking stride.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be proud of that one, taken off his books...and what else can be described about the winner against Fulham?? Simply Sublime...these are traits of a natural finisher and you cannot teach that to a player.

You don't have much of a clue do you? You've not seen El Zhar come off the bench loads of times this season? Or N'gog start games as well as come off the bench? Or Insua playing against Fulham on Saturday? Or Spearing come on against Real Madrid?

Please educate yourself a bit more before making naive comments.

I very much doubt this kid would've even played had you not had injury problems anyway but then you probably didn't realise that either.

Look into FAKTS (Is that how Vanizzle spells it? ) before you make silly remarks :)

Just the response I was looking for..Ouch? Hahaha..take it with a pinch of salt will ya? The ball is in your court now.

The gamble with Macheda paid off but we could have been raving about another teenage striker instead had Welbeck took his chance a few minutes earlier. :D

I've heard about Welbeck for a while. Didn't he play against Liverpool in the youth cup final a couple of years ago? He looked pretty good then if I remember? Him, Drinkwater and Brandy.

And Wellbeck scored a brilliant goal earlier in the season against Stoke.. tis a contender for United goal of the season iirc in the matchday programe.

Also watching SSN Liverpool this season have the most last minute goals scored.. United are 2nd or 3rd in the table.

Typical Sky with shit reporting. Did they not show late goals scored in the last five seasons for example? Or does that not suit their agenda?

It's actually a very good sign to be scoring the most last minute goals. Utd have done it for years and its down to those goals that Liverpool are so close this season.

 How is that shit reporting?! They are talking about this season.

Because Utd have been doing it for years and years, nothing was said then. But now Liverpool do it and Sky pick up on it and make all kinds of tables.

Whats all this buzz about Ribery joining us in place of the departing Ronaldo? Honestly I wouldnt mind that at all but we still need to keep Ronaldo,at least till his contract runs out.Ribery on the left and Ronaldo on the right would give us supreme wingplay and these two could switch flanks any time without a problem. Its been a while since we had a french superstar at United and Ribery certainly fits the category.

I'd love Ribery and Ronaldo both playing for us, but I fear football has moved on from the days of a 442 with two wingers. At best they'd play in a 4-2-3-1 behind a striker, at worst only one would get on at a time, and we'd have Park doing his Kuyt impersonation on the other side.

Personally I hope we don't do a single piece of business this summer (other than sell the usual bunch of almost but not quite youngsters). If we keep Ronaldo and Tevez, (sorry, I guess that is business, you know what I mean - squad stays the same) it'll send a great message to Ando, Nani, Fletcher and indeed Tevez that Fergie has faith. Imo our best season of recent times was 06/07, when we lost Van Nistlerooy and remained more or less unchanged. There was a certain togetherness that just helped us click. The first XI stayed pretty constant, and relationships formed all over the pitch. I don't blame Ronaldo for not having a great season, I mean, a winger and his full back need to be practically psychic ot be at their best, and who is our first choice RB?

Next year I really want us to settle, and where there are no injuries play:
---------Foster--------
-??----Rio--Vida--Evra-
----Carrick-Hargreaves-
-Ronaldo-Tevez-Rooney-
-------Berbatov-------

Really think that's our best formation...would love to see it in action someday!

Yeah, Rafael plays RB, though Fabio (LB) is supposed to be better and has something like 6 goals in 9 games for the reserves (but takes penalties). He scored a hat trick in one game from open play! If Evra continues on his dreadful loss of form I'd give Fabio a game to test him out against one of hte less physical sides.

Rafael broke something, maybe his shoulder? Been out for over a month. Its something that's gone really unspoken about in the media, but United haven't had a first choice RB more or less all season (Brown, Hargreaves, Gary) and O'Shea is alright defensively but basically immobilises his wing and doesn't know the meaning of hte word overlap.

If Gary can stay fit, despite his clear past-it-ness he's our best option til the summer, when hopefully Rafael can get some positioning lessons. If we can teach those twins how to defend it'll be frightening, cause their feet and attacking power are awesome.

Where the hell is Brown though? Surely he cant still be a long way from a return can he? If and when hes fit enough to play he would easily be my first choice right back.

Rafael and Fabio have been playing as wing backs and in midfield for the reserves I think.

I think if anything, Macheda proved the system we are playing isnt really working. Tevez offered nothing other than running yesterday and Berba really does take the pace out of our game. When Kiko came on he was pushing on to the last man and playing like the striker we have so desperately needed this season. We cant have 4 players all trying to drop into space, it just doesnt seem to work. He showed balls and spirit to get in the Villa players faces and I think he played a massive part in them cracking under the pressure. All the omens look good for him (Rooney/Ronaldo debuts) but he is a very different player to both and Fergie must have had some faith in the lad to throw him in like that.

And Dags... El Zhar? Please.

I think Sir Alex has seen and know about the problem, thats why he took of Tevez for Macheda. He looks like a natural that boy Kiko, something special about him too.Only 17 and he is already has the built and the height.Sir Alex has faith in all of his players, believe me...and when you showed what you can do in the reserves, like scoring regularly, you will get a chance with the first team, thats how it works and how it will always be at Manchester United...

Rafael has a thigh/hamstring injury?...while Fabio dislocated his shoulder and is on the road to full fitness,he is training with the first team now, along with Macheda,Welbeck and a couple of other starlets.

Meanwhile...a word from the boss..
“We ask the question every time we bring a young player into the team: have they got the right temperament? With 76,000 people at Old Trafford, playing for the stakes we were on Sunday, it’s a big ask for a young kid. We were sure of Kiko in that respect."

- Sir Alex Ferguson

I'm not ruling El Zhar out from being a very good player in the future. He's not magnificent now but I'd much rather play El Zhar than Pennant or Kuyt on the right wing.

Macheda came on for Nani Phrase, not Tevez. I've really got a good feeling about him. I don't think he'll play for a while though, Fergie will be vary careful with him and will want to make sure he keeps his feet on the ground and doesn't get ahead of himself.

Dags - El Zhar is 22, doesn't look much special and barely plays. That's hardly risking an unknown youngster. Insua is 20 has been playing for Argentina's youth teams for years and been at Anfield for 3 seasons and only gets the odd game.

Insua is the only one who looks certain to be a regular part of the first team in the future, if he isn't already. El Zhar will probably be sold in a few seasons a la Warnock or Mellor. Dunno about the others.

Yeah, I like Insua, he looks good but the point was Rafa doesnt blood youngsters well and the fact Dags offered up Insua, El Zhar and a guy who's made a total of 2 sub appearances in his Liverpool career (one of which when the game was dead) basically supports the argument.

Right, so you expect Spearing to play ahead of Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso and Lucas? Rooney and Berbatov didn't play yesterday and if they were fit, this new kid wouldn't have had a look in. It's not like Fergie plays kids ahead of his first team players out of choice.

El Zhar has came off the bench in a number of games and I'm pretty sure a fair few have been important games.

You forgot I mentioned N'gog as well who's started and came off the bench a number of times.

No I'm not expecting that obviously but this whole conversation is about Rafa not giving youngsters a chance as much as Fergie which is true!! How many youngsters have United and Arsenal given chances over the last 5 years compared to you lot and Chelsea for example? I'm not arguing with you about it!
