Manchester United Thread

all the top sides have shit home atmospheres. Sell outs....corporates and Japanese tourists.

They don't call it a theatre for nothing.

Mind you the Arsenal fans just sing the same song over and over. Does my head in.

Yeah i like how Liverpool bang out "you'll never walk alone" once a season

Funny that because we don't sing it during games. Only before and sometimes after. Or in the closing minutes after a good performance/result. Its tradition..

Arsenal fans sing the same crappy monotone song that 90% of the teams in the premiership sing albeit with the words 'Arsenal' replaced with their own teams name. Don't get me wrong, at least you do sing these days but please for the love of god, write some songs with unique lyrics and vary it up a bit!

Dunno about that now in all honesty, writing a song because we don't have any and we need new ones? It's not Eurovision, I'll admit the Arsenal fans at home could be a bit more vocal as a whole, but the away support is one of the best in the league, but its due to their stature and location. Its like where I live, the NY Yankees are a powerhouse in baseball and their 80,000 seater in the Bronx is like a morgue during games, but go on the road and they have more away fans in opposing stadiums than the home support. Arsenal have just as much tradition as Liverpool in their own right, and I'm not knocking Liverpool when I say that, and Arsenal have a global fanbase naturally, I'm not worried about songs, I wouldn't change a thing, 1-0 to the Arsenal will do me.

Today's funny premier league stuff:

Rio Ferdinand has a barbaric challenge on a Birmingham player, foul and red card should be immediatly given. But the referee ignores it... and he also ignores the Birmingham player that was down injured. The Birmingham player himself was also ignored by the fair playing Man Utd players that proceeded with the match and scored on the counter...

Is this cheating?!?!?!?!

Play to the whistle is the rule. Everyone in the league knows this by now, they've got no rights to complain.

As for the challenge, it looked like just a clash of heads to me, certainly no malice intended from Ferdinand.

maybe yes, maybe not

Hahahaha...sounds like you're trying to prove a point for yourself. The ref is there and he holds the game and its not right for you to have a say,you just cant, what happens, happen.

Anybody else think we need a proper centre forward after today's game? Ronaldo,Tevez and Rooney can do the job for us but they arent natural out and out strikers like we used to have in Solskjaer,Cole and RvN.I did not add Saha because hes out in my books. He just lost that explosiveness and tends to drop deep for whatever reasons. He did not changed anything and looked like a passenger when he came on.

Carrick had a shocker of a game and looked out of place, cant remember watching him displaying any of his trademark passing throughout the game.

Anderson has finally convinced me what a superb player he is.Had a great game, showed great energy and tenacity, sublime skills and passing and holds the ball well. However,I still feel centre-midfield is not his natural position.

I felt the lads looked jaded and tired coming into the last quarter of the game.Evra,Ronaldo,Carrick,Vidic and Rio all looked exausted and uncomposed at times. This is a worry to me and looks like we need covers especially for Evra.

It should be interesting this month.Sir Alex has denied any transfer activity but I would not bet my last dollar on it.

Saha did came on and didnt do anything significant.Held the ball poorly, lost possession and looked out of place. If I am a manager and when I throw in my number 9 in the last 20 minutes,I expect some aggresiveness to cause the opposing defence some problems, maybe take some pot shots and defend from the front.Saha did neither of that and should have came on at all.He is out of my books.

Saha needs a few games under his belt and not to get injured. I still prefer Rooney and Tevez up-front, they are World Class.

Can anyone explain to me why we seem to abandon the midfield in the last 30 minutes of games lately? Against Brum in the second half we came out, played short passes through carrick and anderson and totally dominated looking like we'd score a dozen. Then 10 minutes later for the rest of the half, I'm not convicned carrick and anderson touched the ball, everything went right over them. Same thing against West Ham. Do you think our players aren't capable of passing and making space for 90 mins, so we just give up and start hoofing? I can't be the only one who sees that we're at our best when Rio/Vidic plays it into the CMFs, and they build attack, keeping possession and grinding down the opposition. But the last two matches we only did that for about 15 minutes combined. Makes no sense to me...

Also, when will we get to see Hargo and Anderson paired as starters? Surely that's our best lineup at the moment?

You've noticed the hoofs up field because without Rooney there, they aren't sticking but just coming straight back. We've been knocking it long to him all season.

Beachryan is right about how we tend to bypass our midfield in the last 20 minutes or so...It seems that our players are suffering from fatigue. They lost their composure and control, hence always loosing possession. Our defence sees that and prefers to hoof them upfield instead. It would be much of a difference if Scholes or Giggis is in there.Their experience in the middle is crucial to guide the likes of Carrick,Anderson,Flecther and even Hargreaves.

I'd love for Berbatov to come into the squad, but only if I believed Fergie could get him to shape up. I've no idea what his coaches in Germany/Bulgaria were like, but under Jol and now Ramos he definitely gives off a better than my teammates kind of attitude, and Fergie will simply not tolerate that.

If he can get over himself, then I honestly believe he'd fit perfectly into the team. People who say that we never won jack with RVN need to keep in mind the team he was surrounded by. He spent the last couple years with O'Shea, Fletcher, Veron and Solsjkaer in the midfield. When Becks was in the squad Ruud was simply a machine. If Berbatov can reproduce the quality he's demonstrtaed at spurs with service from intelligent players like Rooney then he'll flourish.

Formation? I'd guess 4-4-2 and Tevez/Saha would be direct replacements for Rooney/Berbatov:
----------VDS---------
-Gary/Wes - Rio - Vidic - Evra
-----Hargo---Anderson-
-Ronaldo-------Giggs/Nani/Park-
--Rooney---Berbatov----

With a pretty tasty bench...

Ehh, Not really seeing it, im happy with things at the moment , actually think where close to a near perfect squad Hoping we get Dani Alves in the summer as our "big" buy and (if Fosters not good enough) a top goalkeeper then i dont see any weakness's in our team whatsoever :)

We need a fourth striker, and you're right a new RB. Or perhaps someone who can play RB/LB as cover for Evra. Alves is quality, perhaps a bit suspect defensively though. I'm not convinced Saha is going to get back to form, nothing I've seen since his latest return from injury suggests that he is. If he's not up to it, then it's just Rooney and Tevez up front :(

Manucho is the 4th striker ;), i maybe getting ahead of myself but he's gotta be half decent to get signed after a trial, the american soccer saviour named Adu failed to impress so this kid may be decent, we have O'shea as cover for Evra which for me is good enough theres no point in having world class replacements cause they'll just want to leave(Heinze) but a new RB and if Saha leaves then another striker

I don't want Berbatov purely because we'd have to adapt our style to incorporate him into the team, and that'd upset the flow of the team.

He's an excellent player no doubt, but I'm speaking purely of the effect he'll have on the team, regardless of his attitude.

Spot on! (the following is views if Saha leaves/sold) we should be looking at Benzema, he would cost around the same amount is 7 years younger and wouldnt demand a 1st team place straight away

Alan Hutton of Rangers just turned down an 8 Million pounds bid from Spurs! Why are we not bidding for him? Another player is Branislav Ivanovic, whom Vidic recommended to Sir Alex himself, but no offers from us still...last news I read that he was in London for a medical at Chelsea's training ground! There are actually a few good buys in this window but we are not hearing any activity from our camp whatsoever...

We didnt really hear much about Nani and Anderson before we suddenly snapped them up. I'm happy to just wait and see what we get.
