Manchester United Thread

I think Scholes will play there... maybe something like this

------------- Kuschzak --------------

Brown-------Rio-----Vidic--------Evra

--------------Scholes----------------

Ronaldo--------Rooney------------Nani

---------Tevez------Saha-------------

he could but i would love to see Anderson start a game , the best he's done since he arrived in the few minutes against Roma

Prediction for tomorrow: 2-1 to United. Go down a goal in the first half, after starting with O'Shea and Scholes in the midfield, with Giggs on the left, Ronaldo right, Saha and Rooney upfront.
Second half replace O'Shea with Nani, bring Giggs back into the centre of the park and United nick it.

Fergie doesn't have the balls to experiment with the new boys. I'd love to see Pique get a run in DMF, and Anderson replace scholes in the second half, but it won't happen unless we're out of sight.

Pity Carrick is hurt, I really thought this would be our 'finding form' game, but O'shea offers nothing in terms of creativty. Just a goal scoring machine :)

Scholes in a holding role? You gotta be kidding me marukomu...QUOTE]

I think he'll be pulling the strings from the back. He did it a few times last season where he played really deep and controlled the pace of the game. Rooney can drop back and make life difficult for their midfield while Scholes picks out the wingers. In theory anyway... :)

I disagree Marukomu:

Brown ---- Rio --------- Vidic ----- Evra

Ronaldo -- Scholes - O'Shea ---- Giggs/Nani

------ Rooney ---- Tevez/Saha

We always play better in a simple 4-4-2 formation with Ronaldo roaming/swapping the wings.

Rooney playing upfront alone is one thing but Tevez playing off Rooney is the best partnership we got.Nani should get a start for this superb CL performance against Roma...Its right what beachryan says,we dont do experiments as long as we have proven players for particular positions.Midfield looks bleak for a few weeks at least so I would be surprise if we see something different rather than a Ronaldo-Scholes-O'Shea-Giggs midfield quartet.

What alot of folk would like to have caused :

Well I say folk, just probably none Man Utd and Portugal fans!

This is a stunning performance that will scare the crap out of the rest of the premiership.

So many brilliant performances but two questions...

A) Danny Simpson was brilliant, great performance, great pace, great getting forward, excellent crosses and football brain on the overlap...where did he come from?

B) Can Carrick get back in this side if Anderson keeps playing like that?

As good as all the play was the biggest bonuses for you lot must surely be the emergence of Simpson and Anderson in that game.

Shit they looked brilliant and like they had played in that side for a few years...

Well that performance will shut up the pundits. Who said United couldn't score goals? Shame on you. Rooney and Tevez are linking up very nicely now. The Argentinian works SO HARD - he is already an Old Trafford hero. Ronaldo is simply magnificant - the best player in the Premier League for me, I think only Kaka could just pip him to that title in world football. Anderson looked bright when he came on and Kusack(sp?) made a great save - ANOTHER clean sheet. Also, remember; every team that comes to Old Trafford puts eleven players behind the ball and United have to break them down every time. We also have to remember that United are PLAGUED with injuries. I can't wait for Neville, Carrick, Hargreaves and Saha to return.

All is good in the United camp - top of the league (for 24 hours anyway) :)

Actually I think Rooney is playing better than Ronaldo. Looking at todays game, yes Ronaldo scored two goals, two tap-ins. Rooney's play for Ronaldo's goal was magnificent, he put it on a plate for him, also Rooney's headed goal was a more difficult than either of Ronaldo's goals and his work rate is higher than Ronaldo.

Also a big difference in Rooney's game is the all-round ability. Rooney seems to have a better football brain, he doesn't go down as many blind alleys and he sets up people far better than Ronaldo.

All that is just my opinion of course, but for me I think Rooney is playing better...better finisher of course as well as we saw in midweek.

As for world player of the year it is very early days, but the best player in Europe so far this season cannot be Kaka, Kaka has not been so good this year at Milan.

Messi on the othrer hand has been stunning at Barcelona. So far this year if you have watched Man Utd, Milan and Barca..you would no that Kaka so far is not in the running, that Messi is the best so far....again just my opinion of course...

But what about this Simpson lad....wonderful display from him, where on earth has he come from?

What did I say?? I did predicted this and its a shame we didnt score any before the second half.

Simpson really did live up to the hype around him.Its a first game and he has every right to impress.Lets hope he keeps his place at RB

Anderson did really well and overshadowed Scholes at times.Hardly put a foot wrong those two.Superb passes for Tevez's goal and Ronaldo's chance from Anderson.

Really proud with Rio marshalling a patched backline so well too.

The best thing was Tevez,Rooney and Ronaldo finding their scoring touches again.

As Sir Alex predicted too,"it" has returned.

One of our best young starlets waiting to pounce on Gary Neville when he retires.Simpson is a natural full-back,able to play on either flank.Describe as a natural athelete with a great engine and pace.Just to prove his potential,he was the first non-first team player to be offered and signed a new contract by our management.

Nice one for the info, but where did he come from?

Has he been a academy player or is he from a team in the lower leagues etc and has he been playing in your reserves?

How much has been spoken about him?

Last time I saw a talent coming through like this was the young left back who came through at Arsenal after Cole went...cliche (no idea of spelling :)

It helps that Tevez has started to change his game and try to also go for balls played into space. In the past he always looked only for the ball to feet in front of the defence. He still looks to the ball to feet more than the ball into space and part of that is due to his pace not being that of a Ronaldo or Rooney. But the main reason for looking for the ball to feet all the time, was the South American way of playing. By mixing the play up and in being willing to change his play a bit, it is looking far better.

E.g

The header he scored at Chelsea, the goal he got today, both looking for the ball into space and not just to feet. he has never really done this in the past and looks to be learning and mixing his game up at Old Traford. You would not expect him to do this and adapt so well/quickly...I wonder if he can keep it up and continue to adapt.

When you first played Tevez he would look to the ball to feet every time and with Rooney out you had no one attacking the space behind defences or getting on the end of crosses....I think he will look to do that a bit now...well in fact he is doing it a bit now...very important as it means that you have two differing but valid ways to play with Saha in combination with either Rooney or Tevez or Rooney Tevez....depending on how the team you are up against is playing.

I still think that Saha is crucial though and I still say you badley need another out and out striker in the squad as cover for Saha who is still very different from either Rooney or Tevez.

We where amazing in the second half, i have to admit i was kind of concerned after all that occured in the first, hope Vida and Sheazy are good to go and Saha again gets a injury:shock:, hopefully we can know kick on from that performance , I told you people Anderson would perform after midweek, hopefully Sir Alex starts him in the next game until Hargy comes back,

Vanzandt, the thing about the "World Player Of The Year" clearly goes to Kaka, but i can see what your saying, the tag doesnt come from each season its from the actual year of 2007 where Kaka single handedly heldped Milan win the Champions Leage while Ronaldo was probably just behind him with his performances , Messi is a run in for "08" definetly but over the year Messi didnt do much...

Danny Simpson was drafted from our Academy and is a regular in our reserves.

Nice one...well he was brilliant today and looks a great prospect. How good he looked hit me for six.

Saha...good old Louis Saha...he got injured during pre-game warm up.

I didn't know that, though his propensity for injury and the differing way he plays and how he can change the style of play for you if things are not going for you mean to me....you need a back-up for him and that type of play.

If you are in a Champions League quarter final you need a goal and the team you are up against is coping with a Tevez Rooney situation, you want to be able to ask a different question of them and have Saha or a similar type of player to come on and mix/change the play. The same is true in the reverse direction. If a team is coping with a Saha or Saha like player and Rooney of Tevez combo, you want to be able to have a Tevez Rooney combination...the same way you could really change the style back in 99 with those four strikers. Variation can be very improtant if thinsg are not working out and it takes different styles to break down differing sides sometimes, equally the scoreline and the depth of a defence makes changing the play one way or the other a potential key.

If you only have Saha and he gets injured then you might not have the option to change things up.

I know this might sound odd to say this given how well you have just played, but I think it is one of those things where you have to plan for worse case scenarios and latter in the season and big games....just my opinion.

^ Shocking upfront yes, but at the back today they were pretty steady for quite a while in the game especially the first half. But once United broke them down the first time they completely fell apart

lol nobody mentioned poor pique who made a great pass leading to ronaldo's second goal . well, good to see anderson proving his price tag, though nani still doesnt convince me. I think those injuries were blessings in disguise, don't you ? :D

Too be honest i may have said that before the season started but so far he's made the best start to his United career from the other 3 signings yet Tevez is know catching up;)

Agreed...Nani has settled well before the other new signings.Sir Alex has said that Nani has hit the ground running whereas Tevez,Anderson and even Hargreaves needs some time to settle down.

A good win against a Wigan side that disappointed me attacking wise. Nonetheless, it's good to see the new signing and the younger players playing well and gaining confidence. Tevez's goal was very well took, he kept a cool head and showed great strength for such a small guy. Rooney scored a header, and Ronaldo could have got a hat-trick. The team is starting to gel together nicely.

not sure but I'd say Tevez. Not just for the great goal but the way he was chasing everything down and he never giver gives. For me, he out-Roonied Rooney.

Just before it gets forgotten. We had another good penalty turned down today. That's 4 so far this season and we've been given 1. Where are all the whingers when we don't get them?

If I have lost my bearings (so many differing awards these days) and we are talking about world player of the year based on last season...then you are correct in correcting me and the award would should be to Kaka with maybe Ronaldo in scond place.
