Agree 100,000,000%. I think Keane was a great player, but what he did is, in my eyes, the same as what Cantona did. Cantona kicked out at, admittedly, an "innocent person" (despite the abuse he was giving out), rather than another player, but the guy got cuts and bruises. Keane broke somebody's leg and ended his career. That's worse, surely?? The punishment didn't fit the crime at all.
I have his autobiography here and I find the guy fascinating, his work ethic is amazing and as a manager he looks like a hugely exciting prospect. But what he's done in the past was no accident, it was planned for a long time, and it was (without trying to sound cheesey) evil.
The two men in football who astound me, with how they're looked at as "fantastic, talented people" with their past forgotten, are Keane and Sam "bungs, me, nah mate, got the wrong guy, you mean my son, go and arrest him, don't arrest me mate" Allardyce. How he's still allowed to manage is a mystery to me...
