Manchester United Thread

Happy Heinze hails United fans

Gabriel Heinze has been made to feel right at home at Old Trafford because of the chants from the Manchester United supporters.

The 28-year-old Argentina international admits he has been driven on by the sounds of "Argentina, Argentina" coming down from the stands.

And the former PSG defender has been deeply affected by the chants.

"I would be lying if I told you I hadn't heard it," he said. "It is really kind of emotional for me.

"I would much rather the fans sing the name of my country than sing my name.

"If you are a bit tired and your hear that it gives you an extra bit of strength in your legs towards the end of the game."

Heinze says people back home have noted the accolade and that it has caused something of a stir.

"They show English games a lot in Argentina, so it has made a real big impression that United fans have been singing these songs," he told the club's official magazine Inside United.

"People have sat up, particularly when you consider the history and relationship between England and Argentina."

Heinze, who has also played in Spain, Portugal and France, believes the Premiership is a highly demanding league.

He said: "There is much more physical contact here, so you need to be tougher.

"The game in England is a lot quicker, the pace and tempo of matches a lot faster than other countries. You have less time on the ball before someone comes to tackle you.

"But the football is very dynamic. It is fast and furious."

Heinze continued: "I prefer to defend against someone who is strong because you have one or two ways to deal with them.

"If somebody is really quick, there is less you can do. If they get past you, you just say 'adios'."

One of my favourite players, a true cult hero in my opinion. I love the Argentina chants, just wish we had more argentine players in the squad.

"If you are a bit tired and your hear that it gives you an extra bit of strength in your legs towards the end of the game."

That emotional hearing that from a player...I`ll remember that when I head to the Emirates Stadium Francia! Francia! Le Bleu!

Maybe ManUtd fans can get Madonna to sing "Don`t Cry for me Argentina!"

Argentinians were furious when Madonna was chosen to play Evita. They saw her as almost a godess while Madonna is seen as a bit of a slag.

Im looking forward to see the Larsson debut on Sunday, as its against his former boss makes it that bit more special too. I hear that he will partner Ole upfront and Rooney is having a 10 day rest, despite a report saying Rooney will opt for more training rather than having a 10 day break.

Fergie said United are looking at 2-3 new signings in the January window in this morning's press conference.

Hargreaves is healing from a broken fibula, nothing career threatening whatsoever. We will sign him before the window closes no matter what the press says.We signed Ruud after he got that knee ligament injury and look what he has achieved with us.Department that needs strengthening is definitely the midfield and attack and a certain Pavel Nedved wouldnt hurt at all.He is another one of Sir Alex's favourite players.

Pavel nedved is too old. period. Would make no sense whatsoever. You can't really sign a player like that not to play a big part in the team, and with scholes, carrick and hopfully hargreaves, something would have to give.

Surprised to hear of a few new signings coming in. Part of me wants us to win the prem with the team we have, rather than have to buy to do it...

£20mill for Hargreaves? What now? Wait till the summer for his leg to fix, or take him now?

20million is overpriced no question about it, especially as he is injured and, but I think he'll recover ok. I just dont think he is that valuable to cost as much as 20million, maybe 12, 15 pushing it but never 20. However Bayern know how desperate United are. Fergie wants him at virtually any cost, Bayern don't want to sell and only extended his contract last season. In my opinion If Fergie thinks he's final piece in the jigsaw or whatever, then he should go out and buy him. It looks to me, that Fergie's got his eye on him and will make sure he ends up getting him. The thing with Fergie is, once he's made his mind up, he doesn't change it. Has tunnel vision at times, regarding transfers, which is why we sometimes pay over the odds. When Fergie paid over the odds for Rio, almost everyone said that he was insane. But Rio has gone on to prove most doubters wrong and no one really thinks about his price tag any longer. I don't care about it, as its not coming out of my pocket.

I also think we need a midfielder in the january window because carrick and scholes are not going to be able to play in all the future fixtures in the premiership, fa cup and champions league. Bringing in Hargreaves now would give the Fergie the option to give either one of those players a rest. Also United won't continuously have to play John O'shea out of position, as the boy is not central or defensive midfielder. Fletcher, Hargreaves, scholes and carrick would provide a good varity and offer multiple combinations depending what tactics united would choose to adopt against certain oppositions.

Larrson was hired to be a last 20 mins of match game winner. A striker can do that, see sheringham a few years ago or the master solkjaer. A midfielder nees the whole match to dictate and make the game their own, i don' tthink have 5 would be helpful. But then, if we win this season I'll eat my words quite happily :)

Right now the price for Owen Hargreaves is at somewhere between 30 Million Euros and 17 Million Pounds.Either way,I am confident that we will sign him.

17 million is crazy money for Hargreaves when he's not even been tested in this league. Ballack was great in Germany and look at him. I'd much rather we bought 2 good squad players with that money. Someone that can put away a free kick would be useful as we get loads and Ronaldo might score one out of twenty. I'm sure we could go for Simao and Reo-coker and get them both for less.

Hargreaves will be worth the money IMO. He can do the job that Scholes and Carrick can't. He is a worker who will run all day for the team, while having good technique as well. Also I do believe that Hargreaves can take a decent free kick.

Owen Hargreaves has proven qualities. He is a regular starter of Bayern Munich.Bayern isnt willing to let him go,that speaks volume of how important he is to the team.He was the star of England's lacklustre World Cup campaign. He is a utility player too,can play anywhere across midfield or full back.Great energy, tenacious, superb tackler and man marker.I'd sign him anywhere below 20 mill because he is damn worth it.Look how many complained that we payed too much for 'one dimensional' Mike Carrick.Look how stable we are when he is playing.Sir Alex believed that we need Carrick in the team and we got him. That is how he is feeling too about Hargreaves I guess.Scholes isnt getting any younger and he cannot start every game and he is a piss poor tackler. These reasons are enough to convince me that we do need Hargreaves...just dont give him the number 10.
