Manchester United Thread

The last 3 English CL winners or finalists weren't champions so I don't think they care too much as a businesses if they win the league or not.

Just a thought though. We need to do well this year or we might have to pre-qualify next season. We've been slipping over the last 5 years.

Well if the Sir Alex didnt want him then theres no point complaining.
I'm more upset about missing out on Hargreaves than those two.

That makes me even more sick that we were atuaclly offered the players but SAF did'nt feel we needed them. The guy has seriously lost the plot. I bet when they proves themsefs at west ham and the whole media is going crazy about them, next summer we'll offer some ridiculous fee to try and get them.

Whats wrong with you people? I hope they suck as West Ham so it proves that Sir Alex made the right decision.

What like when Tottenham picked up carrick from west ham for 2million when no bigs clubs were interested because they thought it would be too big a gamble, only for us to see him do well and grab him later for 18million. Its a joke. Are you telling me you would'nt have liked mascherano and tevez at United?

Of course I would. But now that we missed out, I'm hoping it turns out to be a blessing in disguise. All you and everyone else here does is whine and moan.
I know I might sound a little old fashioned but I dont care if we sign players or not. The only thing that brings a smile to my face is seeing my team play. I dont care if its a team of "Galacticos" playing for us or if its a bunch of sunday league nobodies. As long as it comes from the heart, I'm all for it.
If we won the title the way Chelsea did, then I'd probably just be happy. But if we win the title this season with players like Smith, Rooney, Heinze, etc, I know I'll probably be in tears.

Tevez is just as likely to refuse to play and want a transfer as be a great player so it is a gamble with him. Not sure about Mascherano.
As stated in an earlier post, Fergie was instructed to buy English players, so maybe that's the reason he didn't want him.

and...the way MSI are handling these two players, the United board were smart enough to dodge the deal...

Okay, go ahead and have a big laugh at my expense, fine, but I can tell you what i think of the United squad.

VanderSar - just a bad, bad goalkeeper. Ferguson is wishing Schmeichel is still between the sticks. Look at his all time shots to saves ratio, it's down around the lower 60's, one of the worst in the premier league. His reflexes are just gone, too old, by next season he'll be gone

Ryan Giggs - No gas left in the tank WHATSOEVER. Ferguson has nightmares about this guy now. He hardly ever uses him cause he knows next season he'll need a zimmerframe to get out on the pitch.

Solskjaer - The 20 months he was out couldn't have been short enough, he was crap before the injury and ferguson may as well dig up his Granmother and put her in the midfield rather than play this guy now.

Carrick - The guys won nothing, absolutely nothing. His bones are as soft as a babies ankle, watch him snap with the same injuries that has plagued him all his career, Alex only got him cause he couldn't get his paws on Vieira.

O'Shea - Left Back? Centre back? Midfielder? What is this guy? AF may as well stick him in the goals next. O'Shea is a lump of lard. Full stop.

C.Ronaldo - All pace and all talk, has hardly any knowledge of the game, put this guy indoors and let him do his little tricks on the hardwood floor in a 5 aside. I cringe when I watch him play.

Rooney - My God, how predictable is this guy? If I was a defender I'd just tell myself to step in front of Rooney and he'll be stopped. He runs like a bull at the festival in Pamplona, Spain. Straightline speed, gather the ball for the thunder volley towards the net, it's not a game of chess and any defensive orientated coach could get his back men to stop this guy. Wait til the hype boils over and after a couple of seasons he'll be playing as a novelty act in MLS.

Park - Are you kidding me? Get this guy back on a boat to Taiwan quickly before its too late. This guy wouldn't make the ladies team, just because he had one mediocre world cup, he's just another Karel Poborsky, remember him? Honestly, what has this guy done for your team since he came?

Wes brown - the only thing intricate about this player is his cornrows, which don't suit him either. Crap defender, no strength, no speed, his legs are like 2 beer kegs strapped to his hip bones.

I could go on and on and on but I'm getting tired already, the only real upcoming talent you have is Liam Miller.

Joke post! Liam Miller gave it away.

i think the 28.1m transfer of juan veron may have had an impact on fergie's reluctence to sign an agentinian midfielder again... ;)

I think he has the perfect mentality for it, we've played Oshea there, wouldn't hurt to see how Gabby would handle it.

The defensive midfielder position is very different from the LB or CB position. As a midfielder, you have to be aware of everything around you cuz you're at the center of the field. Defenders on the other hand only have to look ahead.
Heinze is better at looking ahead and handling the situation in front of him.

Rio IMO is more calm and has better awareness compared to Heinze which would allow him to hold the midfield better. You can clearly see this in his defending cuz he isnt exactly the fastest or the best at jumping but he still gets the job done cuz he's smarter than his opposition. Plus Rio is more capable of attacking when needed.

i don't like bringing in a player to play in a role, who has played all their life in a specialist position.

i would prefer just to get a player who plays week in week out in a dmf position. no risks taken.

That's true, Rio's awareness can be seen when he's in possesion of the ball and has his back to the opposition, his ball distribution is also good. I wouldn't want to lose him in our defense though.

Do we need a defensive midfielder in the Keane mould?
How about Carrick in front of the defense with Park in the middle pissing the opposition off and generally harrassing them with his stamina and breaking up their play while Carrick waits to pick out Ronaldo, Saha, Giggs or Rooney on the break.
True, we'll still have problems against the better midfields but I feel we'll put away the weaker teams easier this season.

Sounds like a role similar to Pirlo's.
I'd like to David Jones perhaps get in a premiership match or two against the weaker sides.

That boy's a bit special.Sir Alex didnt allow him to return to Holland after only a season loan. This season will be a platform for David Jones to shine and prove his worth in our midfield. He has that guile and composure that I personally like to see in a central midfielder.Next player to watch out for is Darron Gibson...

I know you lot still need a DMF/CMF but you should thank the gods you already got Carrick.
I personally can't say much about him, but it's seems he was one of the best DMF's last season.
So knowing fergie you should be jumping in joy, that he remembered that the midfield needed strenghning.

But, it was still stupid not getting Mascherano when he had the chance.

But we don't really know the circumstances that made them not get Mascherano. It's possible they were asking too much or that the sponsors blocked the move like they supposedely did with the Senna move.
I would have loved to him at Old Trafford, but we'll be ok.

I dont think some people even got it in their heads. Its not that we dont want the players...okay,maybe saying that we dont need Mascherano is a bit stupid but its all about MSI and how they deal with these two players.None of the big clubs in Europe will dare to deal with MSI.Footballing scandals now is a taboo.Wonder why no big clubs came in for Mascherano and Tevez before they joined Corinthians?? and again before they joined West Ham??

With the deal offered by MSI it's no wonder we had no interest in Mascherano, the deal stipulated that he must play in every match, and that MSI could sell the player at anytime, not the club and also that any profit over the initial £1m transfer fee would go to MSI not the club. That's the only reason they are at West Ham , nobody else would agree to the deal.

Whats up with the MSI thing anyway. Football will be destroyed by Roman and his group of Billionaire gangsters if this goes on for much longer. Bring back the good old football that we all grew up with! banish Roman n the hooligans to the depths of hell!

Perhaps it's more like he didn't have faith in Veron?

yeah cos SAF and the supporters love Heinze!

I read an article that explained the tevez/mascherano deal and that both United and Arsenal (amaong others) turned it down cos it looked abit dodgy to say the least...

Would have liked to have seen Senna/Hargreaves join but I reckon Hargreaves will join in jan....

Yeah, thats what I think but I think we'll have to pay a larger fee now that he's performing better for England.

Rossi is set to start for the first time for Italy's under 21 game tonight, they need a draw to qualify. Its only his 3rd game and now hes a starter... that says alot. Italians dont generally rate 'foreign' Italians, especially an American. I can see him turning into the new Miccoli but at a much earlier age.
