Manchester United Thread

Supposedly the Yoro deal is done and an announcement is expected within 24 hours from United.

Rabiot is a player that United have had interest in for some time so it’s a possibility that they may pull the trigger on him this time around. We shall wait and see for this one.

Yoro and De Ligt look like a legit Center Back tandem (even if Yoro is only 18).. I am more familiar with De Ligt due to the Euros and Bayern, but definitely looks like great signings for this United (who had a very bad defensive performance last season)! Hopefully Zirzkee will be able to explode in the Premier League as well. :)

Busy busy… Ugarte agrees to personal terms with United. So now both De Ligt and Ugarte have agreed personal terms with us. I don’t expect we will buy them both having just signed Yoro but you never know. Even if we sign one of these players, that’s going to make for a solid defence/defensive mid. Since we’ve got Martinez at the club there’s going to be decent competition in those positions. Plus, Martinez seems to be injury prone so ideally we will land them both.

Still think the motion to sell McTominay is daft.

In a good side that boy can be a quality utility man off the bench. Need that during a transition phase more than bloody Mason Mount!

I’m inclined to agree about Mctominay. He’s obviously proved he’s an impact player when comes on as sub and he’s a goal threat. The problem is that we have to adhere to fair play rules so we’ve got to sell some players.
For me the jury is still out on Mount. He’s barely played all season. He will be judged on this season. Let’s see if he can break into the team.
Exciting stuff in the transfer market though and for once we’re not over paying for players (probably buy someone for 200m now I’ve said that)

In the midst of watching Rangers vs United pre-season. I know it’s a friendly but we’re playing some really good football. Yoro has been playing very well and sent a magnificent long range pass to the flank earlier. Amad is causing them all sorts of problems. Quite entertaining for a friendly.
Half time Rangers 0 - 1 Man Utd

Edit:

2nd half was a dull affair. Hugill smashed the ball in the back of the net to make it 2 but nothing really stood out in the 2nd half.

Rangers 0 - 2 Man Utd

The "magnificent long rage pass to the flank" was a pretty standard pass into a mile of open space, nothing against you but I find these comments show how far our standards have fallen as United fans.

Well if you've got Best, Cantona, Beckham and Ronaldo in your bio then you should know what I'm talking about. Did you grow up watching the football we used to play? If so, then that's a standard pass. In any top side no one gets excited about that and it doesn't stand out. I'm not saying it's not good to see, but just calm down.

Do you think any Utd fan isn’t aware that we haven’t been as good as we used to be? It’s been like this for over a decade, you’re eluding to nothing new here.
It was a magnificent pass. Just because my wording wasn’t suitable for you doesn’t make it any less of a pass.
Edit: I’ll say whatever I like about things. I’ll be calm or not calm.

There’s talk of PSG making a double deal for Sancho and Bruno.
Should Bruno Fernandes leave for PSG I’d expect us to make a move for Dani Olmo. I know there’s keen interest from Liverpool and Man City but if we can gazump Real Madrid for Yoro then we could pull off the Olmo transfer. That would be a real coup.

Mazraoui! I remember him from Morocco's magical World Cup run! :RSCARF:
I haven't seen him play too much other than in the National Team, I think he's been a rotation player at Bayern.
But I really liked him in the WC! :TU:

We desperately need a partner for Yoro. I’d prefer Branthwaite or De Ligt but Mazraoui is still a quality player so I’d be happy with him. We need to start selling players if we are going to continue to buy otherwise we will have to deal with FFP.

I don't follow English football much, let alone Man Utd. But as a football fan it pisses me off that they've lost two players for a total of about five months because of dicking about in America in order to build their brand. Sure they might've sustained those injuries if they'd stayed at home and played Wigan, but still. I look forward to the FA Cup taking the blame in January.

We’ve previously gone to the US and hadn’t had a problem. We were one of the first English clubs to promote our brand around the world with tours like this, it’s why we still have a massive worldwide fan base today. The country isn’t the problem, it’s the Astroturf it seems. I think Hojlund is expected to be back in about 3 weeks but Yoro will be about 2-3 months apparently. The latter is a massive blow because we’re currently lacking defensive cover.

I reckon the tours are a drop in the ocean in terms of brand building. My ire, really, is all this talk of player fatigue that's rife in football. England in particular. It's often historic, long-standing fixtures that take the heat. UEFA and FIFA have questions to answer with the expansion of the CL and CWC, but these tours are absurd and managers and players should deflect some anger at their own clubs.

These pre season tours have been happening for years and years. There’s no difference with us playing pre season matches in England or abroad other than on this occasion the Astro turf. Plus, playing these tours generates more revenue than playing the friendly tour at home. Clubs need friendly matches before a season starts to try out players, tactics and whatever else they need to get right before the season begins. That’s never going to change.
I’m honestly a bit fed up with this whole players getting tired rubbish that seems to be common place today. If a player can’t play 90 minutes of football and then recover after a 2,3,4 or even 5 day break then the issue is with the player.

I agree with the notion of preseason. Similarly, I don't understand how players can claim to get tired. But they - and their managers - claim they do. Yet these tours - something that the clubs fully elect to do or not - only get more intense and elaborate.

Managers and players can moan all they like about fatigue. It’s just an excuse they use in the media when they lose or perform badly. When I was younger I used to play football 7 days a week for about 3 hours. This is not an exaggeration. Granted it wasn’t at professional level but I didn’t do any less running and I wasn’t being paid a bunch of money either! They all just need to stop moaning about how tired they are and accept the fact that it’s their job… their very very very well paid job.

Looks like we might be making an impromptu bid for Evan Ferguson so Chelsea don’t get him. I’d be extremely happy adding Evan Ferguson to our ranks. He’s got the potential to break into the first team and be a mainstay at the club for many years

Is this good enough business to get into a champions league place? It’s certainly not good enough to win the league that’s for sure. Let’s hope for some luck
