Manchester United Thread

This is a list of the things LVG has improved on the pitch:

Off the pitch he's done some good things, but he's the trainer-coach. So on the pitch is his primary responsibility.

i was thinking the same today, how United fans would not be unhappy with having Hughes as coach....he turned the Stoke of Pulis to a realy nice football playing team...

i was watching the United game, seeing them after longer time.....boy, they are even worse than under Moyes.....

also with a new coach, the team is so unbalanced and weak....basically LVG got rid of all the personalities and star players.... they are in a free fall atm. Nobody is scared of that team i bet....

Mourinho imo will not save them...

First 15 to 20 minutes we were good but after that it was the same old. Nothing there that convinced me that van gaals gonna take the team forward.

LVG still here?

Heard rumour that LVG's wife and Big Ed's missus are good friends. Often seen out in Manchester together.

Only reason I can think of.

4 wins in 17 matches. Manchester United.

It happens at every big club Beach.
Problem is that most of the fans became Man Utd fan under Ferguson; which was a period of extraordinary success.

Liverpool had a similar succes period in the seventies and the eighties, look how long they had to wait for an EPL win.

Normally spoken a success stint like under Ferguson, will never happen again unless you have a league like the Spanish la Liga where two clubs earn that much money that the others don't stand a chance.

IMO the United fans were spoiled and have unrealistic expectations.

This said, after all the investment United should comfortably end in the top 4.

The match against Chelsea was imho one of the better...UNited should have won it.

The ref denied you a penalty (handsball).

you are wrong!

title hunters:
Arsenal/Leicester/Spurs/MCFC
I think MUTD has to battle it out w/.... ready? Crystal Palace & Stokes ! I think the top (3) in no particular order MCFC-Arsenal-Spurs

I'd be really pessimistic if I didn't believe that we actually do have a pretty reasonable first XI. Not for LVG's system, but for a manager that wanted to work with the players he has, rather than wanting to shoehorn them into his system.

-----------De Gea------------
-Darmian-Smalling-Jones-Shaw-
----Schneiderlein-Herrera----
-----------Mata--------------
----Depay---------Martial----
----------Rooney-------------

Still think we've got some goodness to work with. But not with LVG.

Beach I'm surprised you continue to be ok with Rooney and Memphis when mentioning a good lineup. It's only because we have no real alternatives that they should be considered but both have been completely shite this season.

Totally agree on Rooney, but he's not THAT bad. If surrounded by quality he can still do a job. But we're not getting a better alternative any time soon.

Depay was awesome last year. I refuse to believe that his quality has left him.

Yeah Memphis Depay does have huge potential and ability!

He's just feeling very short on confidence right now when his game depends largely on that. He'll recapture his form with a new manager or some kind of change in the environment.

I do believe with our investment, we SHOULD be in the top 4, but it's not always that clear cut in football. Leicester didn't invest much and look where they are. It really depends on the players and the manager, how they work together to find that perfect system and fight for each other to reach the top. Of course, I don't really think that Leicester can keep this up for a whole year and definitely not for next season, they will most likely be back in the middle, but you can see how that mutual trust and a good run of games brings forth that confidence and what it can do.

With that said, the Chelsea game did show some glimpse of what we saw early last season and earlier this season as well. The problem is that it comes in spurts and not for a sustained period of time. If we have that consistency, then we should be fighting for top 3 or maybe top 2, but since we don't have it, we are fighting for 4-6. With these players, it is hard to see us falling lower than 6 though...

I have been suggesting to friends that Depay might benefit from "writing off" this season, going back to PSV on loan for the last half of the year and just gaining some confidence before coming back next season hopefully under a new manager with a changed system that suits him some more.

Problem is PSV have that new winger, and I can't believe I've forgotten his name, who is seemingly really good right now. It could be difficult for him to get back into the season.

Memphis unfortuntely doesn't seem like a wide player, he's basically trying to be Ronaldo of today but without realising he doesn't posses the physical attributes to be that.

I think LvG actually nailed it when he tried him as a 10, think that's where he'll be most effective, similar to Bale he's probably not got enough skill and close control to hurt sides outwide.

The National side I'll give you actually, he has shown he can perform with Netherlands with quality opposition like Spain.

The Dutch league tho doesn't have the same quality to make it a fair comparison, Ryan Babel looked fantastic too.

Yea, for every Suarez or RVN there are quite a few Guidettis, Altidores, Kezmens, Babels

Depay scored some crackers for PSV but he does seem to take a hell of a lot of shots so the odds are he will put together a nice highlights reel

Altidore scored (50 in 90 matches) for fun in Dutch league. He comes to EPL (scores 3 in 53 matches)
He does f`all for country. He should go back to Dutch league.

Don't like him much, he's done and needs moving on etc, but what a ridiculous finish from Rooney.

Cross had too much pace on it to do that. Probably the best one of those back-heel goals I've ever seen.

Same old, bit more luck today. Fabianski should have equalised at the end. Though, seemed like ref was happy to keep playing til Swansea got a chance, almost a full minute added on for no apparent reason.

mines was Alexis`s backheel vs De Gea it had lots of pace on the ball.

Played a lot better these last two games, but it was only against a struggling Chelsea and Swansea, so can't read too much into it. Hopefully such performances can keep on coming, and eventually, the luck will as well and be able to win a few more games in impressive fashion.
