Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't think it's that United fans don't like Carrick and Fletch - it's more that we recognise the two of them together are not good enough for our first XI central midfield.

I'm trying to think about as they're signed to be choices 2 and 3, with Scholes/ Hargreaves/ Gibson to make way leaving space for a number 1 choice.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I personally think Fletcher is good enough and is one of United's more important players. He wasn't for a long time but Fergie and United stuck by him and had a lot of patience and finally he turned out to be a very good player in my opinion over the last 2 years and so repaid them for their faith and effort in him.
Carrick I used to be a fan of and still think some give him more crap than he deserves but it is true that he really has had some below average performances in the last 12 months and is not consistently as good as he used to be. Seems like a confidence problem to me. So I agree, he's increasingly looking like a useful squad player rather than a starting 11 maestro in the middle of the park running things for a side like United.

Anyway, those comments (mostly negative) are only about Carrick anyhow in the link above from fans. I don't think many United fans would be against Fletcher getting a new contract or would want him out. Plus he's become somewhat of a symbol for United by now having played there his whole career and coming through youth ranks and still of a good age to be useful for many more years.

EDIT: So I'm not at all surprised, they've extended his contract till 2015. Carrick on the other hand, a little more surprising but even then not really because even if you do wanna offload the guy and sell him in summer or year or whatever (which I don't even think they will), this 3 year extension will mean, they should get a decent price for him. Can't see Fletcher going anywhere though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why would anyone want rid of either? Extremely silly to even consider the thought when Scholes and Hargreaves need replacing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Read this on another forum.
The nicest 'celebrity' I've ever served was a young footballer. Strange to associate footballers with manners, I know.

He walked towards me, and as somebody who's son is a fan of the team he plays for I knew who he was as soon as he spoke to me.

At a hundred miles an hour and clearly flustered he said "I was wondering please if you could help me Miss. Do you sell - I'm sorry, I cannot pronounce it in English. Tagleeeteeelea. I'm sorry. That doesn't sound right. I can write it for you.....oh but my spelling not so good either. Is OK. Thank you anyway."

I quickly reassured him I knew what he wanted and I'd show him where it was.

The whole walk around to the pasta aisle he apologised for not being able to find it himself, for 'troubling' me and even for his pronunciation.

When we got there it was like I'd taken him to a case of buried treasure. his face lit up and he said 'Oh this is it. Yes! Thank you so very much Miss.'

Then he pulled out a 5 pound note and said 'for you'

I laughed and asked him what it was for and he said 'A tip. Because you help me so much.' When i explained that we can't accept tips and it's not generally customary to even be offered them, he blushed and said he was confused with tipping because it's very different where he's from - but to know that he was very grateful.

I finally told him I knew who he was and that my son was a fan. He was very pleased, and we talked for a few moments about his team and then we said our goodbyes.

I told my son when I got home and his face lit up, although he was annoyed at me for not getting an autograph! I didn't even think to ask!

The next day though, I was called by name to the customer service desk - and who stood there but my mystery footballer. He must have read the name on my badge. It turned out that he'd brought my son a signed shirt and even brought an unsigned photo with him so that he could dedicate it personally to my son once he'd asked me for his name.

Truly nice person.

His name? Most of you probably won't have heard of him. Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Love the part about him 'tipping' her. :D

What was he looking for then though? I didn't get it.

Yeah especially with those 2 needing to be replaced pretty much and it's Gibson who if anything doesn't look like he's overall good enough. So that's 3 CM's who kinda need replacing, why get rid of others.

Believe he got it from this street
FFS! Nani scrounging out of the bin behind him. :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

:D Get in! 3 points tomorrow and extending the lead to 6 points will deflate Arsenal with the Nou Camp and Old Trafford to come.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We're really shaky at the back-line. I just hope we will at least get a point.

I wonder who will be starting for this match...for both sides...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Had a sneaky feeling we'd get a draw at Chelsea, but always thought we'd lose this. Only good news is that once this game is done, we can hopefully build some momentum.

Hopefully the team is feeling all riled up after Tuesday night, and it's a big opportunity for Brown to earn a new contract. Not feeling great about it, but what can we do.

Any truth to the rumours that Gerrard tweaked his groin?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I have a horrible feeling it'll be a broken/fractured leg. I know he's a massive drama queen but he was genuinely distraught.

We need to have a look at ourselves at the minute really, injuries and suspensions didn't help but even then we were absolutely abysmal.

Hopefully we can bounce back and get the title sorted, that'll be the only way to feel better about today really.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Our back-up d just sucked!!! but I have to say that Suarez played great, and Kuyt was at the right place at the right time.

Time to move on, and hope that Nani will be fine, cause we need our players healthy and available for the final stretch of the season....the most important stretch too!!

On a side, a good news is that we still are to meet arsenal, so we can still take the league!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Dreadful performance, lacked determination and just general belief. Time to dust ourselves off and get on with the season.

Not sure if Nani will be able to though

Picture of Nani's injury, don't look if you're a bit screamish

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Bloody hell! Any news on his injury yet?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

WTF! I was already disgusted with that tackle without seeing this photo.
That was a straight red no doubt. Well done Phil Dowd. How does that f*cking wanker still officiates big matches like these? WTF is wrong with the FA?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That's wound me up even more seeing the other dirty cunt Gerrard look at his leg then shove it out the way.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought Gerrard saw the "playacting" and reacted to it, instead of seeing if his injury was real.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

For nani to have a gash like that he got up quick to show dowd. How a red was not shown I just dont know...Dowd is a tool. A coward of the highest order . Thought Pool players were harsh on the injured player.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Boy who cried wolf. The amount of times Nani has feigned injury and rolled around on the floor, anyone can be forgiven for thinking he's being his usual self.

I really can't disagree with this. When I saw it in real time I thought it was a horrendous challenge, but that Nani was milking it as he always does.

Then again by that token Carragher is like the wolf who cried sheep. That man is like Houdini with red cards.
