Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Is it just me or is Evra kinda under-performing this season?
By his own very high standards, yeah. I'm guessing its something to do with us having to be extra cautious after the amount of goals we've been leaking recently. Once our defence becomes stable, he'll be free to play the way we know we can. A bit like Chelsea for example. Once they know they're in control, Ashley Cole becomes unstoppable.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just watched the ESPN coverage of the match... Jon Champion is unbelievable. How one sided and bitter did he sound!?!

Him and Waddle describing what's happening and changing the facts that we can see with our own eyes.
"Oh god, Clattenberg's not even looking, he's got his back turned, how can he give that?". Shortly followed by a replay showing him facing the incident the whole time!

And then he went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it as if it had dramatically changed the game, we were already winning anyway you daft prick!
"Entirely in tune with the history of this fixture, Tottenham don't just lose in normal fashion, they lose in agonising fashion. Full time score Manchester United 2, ALTHOUGH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ONE!!!!!!!, Tottenham 0."
And the constant mentions of other incidents in the fixture using words like disgraceful and the like which is totally inappropriate.

I thought commentators were supposed to remain impartial and speak objectively, not like a bitter fan of a rival. It's not the first time he's done this either. I've no problem if they thought the decision wrong but IMO they shouldn't be allowed to talk like they were, it stirs up resentment and can create myths which end up effecting the game at a later date.

Should have been a penalty?!

YouTube - Controversial Nani Goal VS Spurs

About 23 secs in, from that angle you can CLEARLY see there's no contact whatsoever. And this is the same ref that didn't give Mendes' goal for Spurs against United five years ago was it?

Fuck me, you spend more time in here than on your own thread,You really are a WUM of the highest order.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

At the end of the day the ref waved play on with the advantage, rightly or wrongly.

Gomez was at fault for not listening to the ref/whistle and made a huge mistake. He looked unsure, so why didn't he pick it up? he was gesturing to the ref and the ref gestured back to him to let him know. Nani obviously listened to the ref and Gomez didn't.

Anyway, you were in the lead.

To Jumbo aswell, Some commentators are knobs. The guy on match of the day said that Arsenal were failing to take authority (or something along those lines) of a team rooted to the bottom of the table. This was after we had shot after shot and the keeper did about 3 top quality saves and we hit the woodwork twice etc etc. Then he said there looks like there might be a goal in this game, but I don't know which side it will be?! as if suggesting that it was an equal game and West ham were playing on the same par as us?!

It is frustrating when people commentate like they are not actually watching the game and have some sort of agenda. But such is life I guess.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Great performance overall I thought. Spurs didn't really threaten from about the 65th minute. Some real composure.

Farce of a goal. Credit to Nani for being bright, but very odd indeed.

Their dislike of Nani is also quite amusing, for some reason he must be stuck in 2009 as he seems to keep mentioning Nani needing to improve his consistency :SS

IMO it all stems a very strange trend/ phenomenon: virtually no United players move into punditry. On the other hand, it seems like every single pairing of commentators has to have an ex-Liverpool player.

To be fair, the ESPN duo are probably the worst of the worst at the moment. They’ve clearly been instructed to speak as much as possible about the referee and their decisions, rather than the football itself. Very surprising, as given ESPN’s North American foundations, I would expect better. But hey, generates more controversy and therefore I guess more viewers. Who knows. English media is a cancer.

As for Nani, I’m fairly sure he’s the most productive player in the league this season. So all the other teams should watch out when he does become consistent…sigh…

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nani is getting better ,but Nasri is playing miles better than last season. No one is even talking about Nasri anywhere. So take Nani`s consistency tag w/ a pinch of salt at least he has a point to prove.

Yeah I was talking about this last night.

There's a feature The Guardian do called The Knowledge, this week someone had asked which team had provided the most currently active managers.

Of the 87 league clubs south of the border Manchester United lead the way with five managers – Billy Davies (Nottingham Forest), Sammy McIlroy (Morecambe), Mark Robins (Barnsley), Darren Ferguson (Preston) and Mark Hughes (Fulham) – beginning their playing careers at Old Trafford.
Liverpool don't have a single 'product' managing in England.

Then there's Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce, Paul Ince, Roy Keane and until recently Gordon Strachan and Steve Coppell who all spent large spells of their careers with us. Plus we've got Phelan, Solskjaer, McClair, Clayton Blackmore and few others as part of our coaching staff, Ray Wilkins is assistant at Chelsea and Brian Kidd at City... we're everywhere apart from on TV it seems!

I think you're right though, it's gotta have some bearing. That's why I can't understand Liverpool fans saying Sky are biased towards us when half their pundits are ex-Liverpool players!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That's just coaching. We have so many of our ex players scattered all over the country that may have spent some time in our youth or reserve teams.
Our club really has contributed a lot to British football.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Good performance today, showed great ball retention in a difficult stadium. Obertan was brilliant today I thought, when he arrived he could barely strike the ball cleanly but he's scored some rockets in recent months.

Shame about Nani and Fletcher, really going to miss Nani for the weekend.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

They've given Bebe his goal back (UEFA had it as an own goal for a bit). So he's above Rooney in the scoring charts this season. Get in.

Just seen you can get 18-1 on a Wolves victory tomorrow. Have put a fiver on it - that's amazing odds given the team we're likely to field. Looking at injuries/ who has played this week/ will be rested for Wednesday I'mg uessing we'll go with:

------------VDS------------
--Neville-Vida--Evans-Evra-
------Carrick-Gibson-------
---------Anderson----------
---Park--------------------
-------Macheda-Hernandez---

Hardly awe-inspiring.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Berbatov will partner Hernandez, Obertan will start on the right so their should be enough quality to win the game. Hopefully Giggs can get a run out ahead of Wednesday (hopefully he can start that!)

--Rafael--Ferdinand--Vidic---Evra-
-Obertan--Carrick--Anderson-Park-
-------Berbatov Hernandez------

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

No love for FC United in here? Winning 1-0 in the FA Cup against Rochdale, brilliant to see :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

2-0!

Fair play to them. Personally I wouldn't give up on United but I really respect what they've done and understand the reasons. I hope they get a good cup run, imagine if we get them in the 3rd round!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I just love Park. Always underrated, and still he delivers. I'm so glad it was he who saved us today. By far our best player along with Fletcher and Evra.

But how shocking was Bebe? I haven't seen such a shitty performance from a United player in a long time.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Great stuff to get the win, some people getting their knickers in a twist need to realise today was a bit of a injury crises and we had to hope for the best. Berbatov, Nani, Giggs, Carrick, Anderson and potentially Rafael will be back for Wednesday I'd expect.

Bebe wasn't THAT bad but his crossing was, should have tried him from the left perhaps. Sensational winner from Park.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Typical.
Scoring in the 3rd of the minimum of 4 added minutes must be Fergie time?
Funny how nothing is mentioned about Fulham scoring in the 95th...

Great win considering the injured / ill players. Hopefully Hargo's hamstring isn't serious.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hargreaves should be done...as a matter of fact,I think we should prepare papers for a mutual release.

No matter what Sir Alex said before,I still believe we will sign players in the next transfer window.

A man for man replacement for Hargreaves is a definite...cue Steven Defour.

A creative spark in midfield will be needed...cue Marek Hamsik.

and finally,a long term replacement for Ed Van Der Sar...cue David De Gea,Markus Neuer or any other top keeper.

That win against wolves was breath taking and disappointing at the same time.

Hargreaves contract is up in the summer so we don't need to get rid of him now. Gives him a chance to try again. Anyway it was his hamstring that went yesterday, not his knees and muscle strains are common after a long lay off.

I thought we did well yesterday considering we had a front 6 with only Fletcher and possibly Chicha who are first choice players. Bebe's crossing was sloppy but I thought he looked dangerous otherwise, skinned their defenders a few times, had a couple of good shots and a nice cut back to Obertan which should have ended in a goal if Ober had squared to Hernandez who was in acres on the left side.

The virus that has ripped through the squad left us a bit bare, especially with Giggs, Rooney, Valencia, Nani and Owen out with other injuries as well. Vidic, Evra and Scholes were all playing with illness too so I think getting the win, even if our play was sloppy at times, wasn't as bad as it's been made out.

Hopefully against City we can play Carrick and Scholes in the middle, they've been great the past few games.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thats the thing with Man United, you can have lots of injuries and play bad etc but you always manage to get the wins (well nearly always).

It's something Arsenal need to do if we are ever going to win anything again.

It's a cliche but it is true, it is the sign of champions when you can do stuff like that.

The scary thing with Man United at the moment is that you are unbeaten and on the whole playing not very well. Imagine when you get your plaeyrs back and on form?! It will be crazy.

I just hope Arsenal can maintain what we have at the moment. We are getting Fab back and Van persie also Ramsey soon. With Bendtner coming back a couple of weeks ago aswell, our team is getting stronger. I just hope they can continue. We need some of that belief and commitment that Man United players show, that alot of our players lack...especially the commitment.
