Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Ben Smith said it, not Comolli.

Agger's injury problems mean that he doesn't start every game so there'd be rotation going on anyway.

Edit: Actually it seems it was Tony Barrett who's said it. Both reliable sources though.

Young is obviously a great player, but Jarvis has a great season. I agree with PLF that he is a smart player. A couple of days ago i said in this thread that IMO Jarvis at the moment is definitely better than Walcott, who has more "raw talent", but Jarvis is the more clever player...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

wow, did he actually come out and say those were the targets? strange negotiating tactic !

Gary Cahill is class. He'd be a great signing for most teams, but would he get into your starting XI? Ahead of Agger and Skrtel?

Agger is top defender when fit, but he´s to often injured...we need a CB also becouse Carra is getting old and Kyrgiakos only has year left..

i reckon we would play this: Cahill --- Skrtel/Agger

i think this might be most realistic targets we can afford and that would want to join us... i realy doubt we sign Hazard, Coentrao etc.. this are amazing players but it would be miracle if they are in our team after summer..

if we continue playing with Johnson on LB it might look like this most of next season with Cahill..

Kelly --- Cahill --- Skrtel -- Johnson

not bad i think... Agger will be obviously ahead of Skrtel when fit but currently Skrtel is above him in terms of consistence...he didn´t missed a single game except sparta away this season..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

IMO Skrtel is not good enough for a club like Liverpool.
He is a very good player, but not a top CB. A club like Liverpool needs a top player. Compare Skrtel to Vidic, Kompany and Luiz...those players are a serious cut above him IMO.

Cahill would be a good buy. Personally i think rather high about Jagielka, but he's playing for Everton. I don't think Everton will be happy to see him leave for Liverpool (were there much transfers from Everton to Liverpool in the past???).

:D

Edit:

Luis Suarez
In Liverpool working hard to be ready for next match! I've been lucky, the injury isn't that bad and it should be fine. I also want to tell you I'm a bit sad for not playing the match with Uruguay.

Bloody hell, it's all good news lately! I'm waiting for some bombshell to drop and spoil everything now

a club like Liverpool...this is a myth, we are now outside top 4 and we have no chance to be inside top 4 this and maybe next season with squad we have..certainly we are out of CL for next season...only with big luck we can play it...but not realistic imo.

I don´t know but i don´t see Skrtel as our problem... with Agger he playes his best football and all he needs is a partner to play with him every game...i don´t think Vidic would be as perfect and praised as he is now if he would not play week and week out with Ferdinand who was in his best years since Vidic came and they had the time to form a good partnership... they were basicly never injured in their CL winning season...Skrtel needs confidence and good partner imo, Cahill could be the answer...as for Agger, i would say he is one of most inteligent and best CB in world, with best passing but... unfortunatelly we need stability and fit players.. it´s a shame but we can´t and hopefully won´t sell our fit players to make place for injury prones.... hope you know what i mean...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I don't rate Skrtel that highly to be honest. He's solid enough to a point but he does make a lot of mistakes that he shouldn't be making at this level. He's a good option as a squad player but there's no way he should be regarded as a first-choice CB come the summer when we can buy players.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Cahill would be a brilliant signing, Very good with the potential to be top class and English. would probably be your best defender.

Jarvis would be a very average signing but if he'd be happy to stick around as a squad player then its not bad.

we need more players that could be our squad players and at the same time able to make a chainge when playing.. if you see how many options United have on one position, it´s not comparable with us... and we are talking about national players, not kids like we had on our bench against Braga for example.. Agree on Cahill, i would welcome him with open arms :)

there is plenty who don´t rate him, obviously but there must be something Kenny/Rafa/Roy :P liked about him if he was almost always on pitch...and as i say, look on his play when he playes with Agger, he is twice the player he can be.... but with Carra he playes often not so good...imo if Agger would be fit always - he and Skrtel would be amazing together...

As LFC supporter i´m against him to be sold, he can offer a lot and is consistent and young player... The one we should think about replacing is Agger, becouse if he playes just few games a season and this few years now...there is no need to keep him in club as much as i like him...and i think when he is fit he is one of best CB in world.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

The way Liverpool are playing now, they are a top 4 club. They have the second best premier league record since new year...I expect them soon to be top 4 or top 6 again. IMO the days of the top 4 are over with City and Spurs emerging. But Liverpool are definitely among the top 6 (aren't they currently sixth and this despite a disastrour start of the season).

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

yes of course we can be happy to be where we are now after the mistakes our previous owners did...apointing Hodgson, buying Cole etc..

but untill we are not in top 4 next year it will be difficult to get there or to convince TOP class players to move here..

i hope i´m not right and we buy some top class players..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

@ Gerd,

Yep, 6th place, and still a very small chance to get 5th and even 4th! All the top 6 play each other atleast 3 times so there are a huge amount of points to be won and lost.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Well if you finish outside the European places this season, I could see a strong challenge for the top 4 next season without the hindrance of Thursday night football.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

It's difficult to say where we might challenge for next season. I'm pretty sure that the squad we have on September 1st will be very different to what there is today. Whether those players gel together or not, whether they suit the tactics, what manager we have in charge.

Next season is a bit of a lottery really.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Not sure whether 6th or 5th is a better place to finish tbh. The slog that is the EL is a pretty pointless and also makes the players tired. But then I don't know how highly players rate the EL and whether it would improve the chances of getting better signings.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I doubt it does much, I think the pool of talent available to you with or without it is the same.

Welcome to LFC

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Someone who's supposed to be an ITK on RAWK has said that we're in talks with Balázs Dzsudzsák.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I imagine they're not showing the whole shirt so that they can do the "reveal" on 14th April.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Yep, do you lot have a new kit every season aswell, I can't believe that we get kits EVERY year nowadays, should atleast keep them the same for 2-3 seasons.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

more different kit´s = more money

Real bought Ronaldo, they gave him n.9 - milion kits were sold.. after season they gave him n.7 and again it was like a second Ronaldo signing (in kits buyer view)

buissines nothing less..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Liverpool today confirmed midfielder Lucas Leiva has signed a new long-term contract at Anfield.

The 24-year old, who signed for the Reds in July 2007, has put pen to paper on a new deal which secures his future with the Reds.

Director of Football Damien Comolli said: "I am very, very pleased. We have been talking for a few months now, ever since I arrived at the club.

"One of the first things I did after I arrived was to look at the contract situation and to see where Lucas was at. I knew we had to do something quickly because we couldn't afford to lose him and didn't want to lose him.

"If you look at his playing record he started 46 games last year in all competitions and this year it will be between 45 and 50. He is exactly what we want. He has the right mentality, quality and attitude. He understands what this club is all about and even though the discussions went on for quite a long time he always said to me 'I want to stay and we need to find a solution'.

"Considering his performances on the pitch with us and with Brazil, and his attitude around the place - off the pitch he's a great professional, totally committed and dedicated and it's always team first when you speak to Lucas - that's why we wanted him to stay. The celebration at Sunderland with the players after he'd had his baby shows that the other players were very happy for him and shows he is a team player.

"He could have gone to many clubs because he is highly rated around Europe, but he always said he wanted to play for Liverpool."

After securing the transfer window signings of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in January, Comolli insists today's news is a further example of the Reds moving in the right direction.

"This shows stability," he added. "What we did during the window showed ambition and what we have done with Lucas - and other players we are talking to - shows stability. We want to keep the core of the players we have who are performing and performing well."

Manager Kenny Dalglish was equally as pleased that his Brazilian midfielder had agreed a new deal.

"We are delighted," said the boss."He is a smashing lad to have around the football club but he hasn't been signed for that, he has been signed because of what he does on the pitch. Certainly since I came in he has been a great asset to the team and has done tremendously well.

"He's got wee Pedro to look after and now a new contract as well, and we're delighted for him because he's a really honest, genuine fella and that's reflected in the way he plays.

"He's happy to be here and play for the club and he's getting everything that he deserves at the moment - including being a fixture in the Brazilian team - because of what he's done on the pitch."

'It was an easy decision to make'

Lucas Leiva today spoke of his delight after committing his future to Liverpool.

After news broke that the Brazilian midfielder has signed a new long-term contract with the Reds, the 24-year old immediately turned his sights towards helping the Reds re-establish themselves as a force in English and European football.

"For me it was an easy decision because I know how big Liverpool is and I can see Liverpool are committed to me and are planning for a future with me," he told Liverpoolfc.tv. "The effort from the club was amazing and that makes me feel an important player. That's why it was an easy decision.

"I am really, really happy. The last few weeks have been really good for me and now I have signed a new contract and can spend more years at Liverpool I will do my best all the time and try to help the club to be bigger and bigger, if that's possible.

"Everyone wants to be in the Champions League again and to win titles. That is what Liverpool is about. The way everything is going I think it will be a very good next few seasons.

"We have some new players who have come here and that shows we are moving in the right direction. I am pleased with the way Liverpool tried to keep me and now I want to keep doing my best for them.

"I don't think people thought I could stay here for so long, but now I want to just keep on improving."
