Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

people should stop harping on look at the results blah blah.Other than the Chelsea,Utd wins,we had some shocking performances.Defeats at Blackpool,West ham,Braga.Draws with Wigan,S.Prague,Everton etc.Yes he's done well. Not doubting it.But done well compared TO hodgson. We dont want an upgrade to hodgson.we need an upgrade to Rafa.do i want KK to be given a new contract.No.he was needed to "steady the ship".come end of the season,we should be looking at other better alternatives.not at someone whos been out of the game for ten years or so.love him to bits,as a manager,as a player.absolute legend.but im afraid he hasnt got it in his locker to topple the likes of chelsea, united, arsenal.lets start afresh next season.and i pray he's given a lifetime role in our club.but not as manager

He's got the best points tally in the league since he started on 8th January, I read earlier. So it's more than comparing to Hodgson, it's comparing to the whole league.

What signs have you been given that he's not "got it in his locker" to topple the other teams? Because from what I've seen so far, he's got more than enough to do better than Rafa did.

I don't get it. People questioned Kenny being out of the game for so long, saying he'd be out of touch. He's done a fantastic job and yet people are still saying he spent too long out. What more does he need to do for people not to say he's been out to long?

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

tiktiktik, i'm a youth coach.
I use Bruyninckx' methods with my team in tranining.
You can easlily adapt those methods to young kids. A couple of examples: play five a side matches where the kids can only touch the ball two times. This learns them to have a good first touch and learns them to pass the ball. Another example is exercises with their weak foot. And exercises about awareness on the pitch.

Since i've started with those exercises it's a pleausure to watch football on television with my 8 year old son. He "coaches" the teams while watching...this shows that those exercises do enhance kids awareness on the pitch.

I strongly believe in Bruyninckx' methods: since i use them my youth team hasn't lost a single match.

And about English football: i tend to think that the average English football player is indeed less intelligent than most foreigners in the premiership. Football is not all about thechnical abilities or speed. it's also about awareness. Lot's of people here think highly about Theo Walcott. It is true that Walcott has skill and speed, but he lacks awareness. In roughly the same position i prefer Matt Jarvis, who has less speed and (maybe) less skill, but has more vision and awareness than Walcott. That is also why i prefer Lampard to Gerrard. Technically Gerrard is the better player (although far from outstanding) but IMO Lampard has more awareness and vision than Gerrard.

not the best points tally(2nd or 3rd),but i agree there.but the league still has some way to go doesnt it?how bout we judge him at the end?ifw estart judging managers on points average based on a couple of games then ian holloway is a genius at the beginning of the season.not to mention rafa is god cos his average was outstanding yet people called for his head.why the double standards with kenny?setimental reasons?has to be.cos if the hodge was still in charge when we lost to w.ham or crashed out to braga,we'd be singing a diff tune.what exactly have you seen so far to think he has it his locker?honestly, how many excellent or good performances have we had?listen,i would love nothing more than kk to get us that elusive no.19 and knocking utd off the perch.but i cant honestly say he can do it.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Every manager has the off-games and I think those games are the exception rather than the rule. In general, our play has been so much better with the players and fans united again. There's an attacking mentality to our play now, while we can also be defensive when needed (Chelsea) and get the points that way.

You could see immediately that Hodgson just wasn't suited to our club in no way whatsoever. His ideas, his lack of charisma and any kind of understanding with the fans, his tactics, his ambitions, all wrong.

That's not to say that there's not a manager out there with similar qualities that Kenny can (and is) offer us but why change when it's clear that Kenny has made such a difference and seems to be the perfect short-term choice already.

Unless FSG are thinking that, although Kenny does seem to be right, they want to start their "dynasty" now and get the younger manager in who's going to stay with us for a decade and build his team. Kenny's only disadvantage is his age and he can only offer a certain amount of years and if there's a manager out there who they are very confident can replicate Kenny's positive points whilst having time on their side to stay with the team for years ... then that's the only plausible reason to change the manager.

And there lies the problem. Let's say we go for Villas-Boas, a young up-and-coming manager with good ideas and huge potential. But what if he doesn't click with the fans? What if he gets it all wrong and loses a fair number of games and there's pressure on his position? The amount of pressure that FSG would be under because they let Kenny go despite him starting so well and not keeping him on would be crazy.

And we still don't have a Director Of Football, someone to guide FSG and tell them the kind of manager we should be going after. Whether that's because they don't need to search as they're going to keep Kenny anyway, I don't know. But if they want a new manager and there's nobody to give them good advice, we could have a problem. The last thing we want is another Christian Purslow siding with the media and offering the job to the next flavour of the month like Hodgson was.

It's a massive, massive risk to let Kenny go.

Go for the win. I think Arsenal could suffer if the team uses Carrol well. Have to keep the pressure on Spurs.

Agreed. There's some huge games coming up with the top teams playing each other and who knows where we might finish if we keep winning.

Liverpool don't gift anybody a win so no way would they have let Chelsea win last year. If they lost, they got done by the better team on the day. End of.

Surely Liverpool beating Blackburn years ago would have put that bullshit theory to bed?! Regardless of how many titles could be won.

I understand where you are coming from and maybe United would do that to Liverpool but Liverpool are better than that. Letting other teams win is bullshit. Don't care about repercussions. If they ever did that I wouldn't follow them ever again. I have more faith in the club than that though.

Kenny needs time to bring his own players in. The next transfer window will hopefully see him bring in what's needed. Too long out of the game though? What a load of tosh that is?!!

People on here have never been "in the game" and think they know it all so somebody with Kenny's pedigree knows what they are doing.

Football is a simple game that gets overcomplicated with all talk about certain tactics etc. Kenny will get the team playing to feet in the right areas. He's already said he's peeved off at the long balls that happened against Braga so give him a chance to get the right people in and Liverpool will start getting back to where they belong... fighting for titles!

It's a nice sentiment, but did you watch the match last year? As soon as Chelsea scored there was clearly a 'oh well' attitude around Anfield. And amongst the players. No way were you bothering to come back. I'm fairly sure the crowd even mock-cheered the second goal. [Note, this is off memory, I can't even recall the score now, but remembered being disgusted]

Hopefully United will never be in that position ;)

bring his players in and two years down the line the next person comes in and builds all over again?repeat it to yourself and tell if it sounds right in your head.that would be wasting two years, not to mention money on players who might not be the next managers cuppa tea ie:jovanovic

Too long out of the game though? What a load of tosh that is?!!

tell that to roy or most british managers and you'll know why they dont win fuck'all

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

why not?why not build a "dynasty" now?

I'm confident that, given a season or two, Kenny can have us playing as a top team again. If he's given the players he wants and can get the right players to play how he (and the fans) want to see Liverpool play, I've got little doubt that he'd be a success. And then that makes it far easier to attract better players again, sponsors will pay more, the ground (whichever it is) will be heaving again. It makes sense to me.

If we start to try the dynasty now, we're back to square one with a manager trying to implement a new "five year plan" or whatever. There's a new change in style, possible changes in the youth system, a lot would likely change.

While we've got a manager who's more than capable of delivering, it just makes sense to make the most of him and try to get that success. And build on that.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Every new manager is a risk.
Dalglish was a risk too. I was rather pessimistic about him as manager, but it seems i was wrong, since Liverpool have the second highest points tally of the whole division in 2011...

in a nutshell, youre saying let him take us where he can and in two years, start all over again?so then these two years would be well,a waste?what sponsors paying more?grounds always been good.attendances have always been good.dont know what youre on bout tbh.everytime a manger changes,we'd see massive overhaul so nothing to build on really but rather start from scratch(mostly depending on who we get then unless its carra for manager next*shudders*)oce again,i'd rather he be in charge of something else at the club.i want him here but as manager,i'd rather have someone else.hell i'd even go as far as saying i'd like to see rafa under our new owners.

That bit wasn't aimed at you fella.
Point I was making is just because he wasn't managing a team doesn't make him less of a football manager now. That is just total BS that I don't agree with. I have no issue with peoples differing opinions. Everyone is free to say what they want.

I know people who haven't played football for years but it doesn't mean they know nothing about the game. Pundits, press etc. just go over the top and talk so much shit it's unbelievable.

And who is to say Kenny might only be around for 2 years anyway? Who knows?!

Anyway...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Looks like Aquilani's English experiment can now be dubbed a failure: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/mar/22/alberto-aquilani-juventus-liverpool-agent?CMP=twt_gu

""Aquilani to Roma? That will be difficult. Juve has the priority and I don't think they will let him escape," he told the Italian broadcaster Radio Mana Mana. "On 30 June Juventus will be able to buy Aquilani and they should act now.

"They could sign him by making three to four delayed payments, a system which was established last summer. The agreement between Liverpool and Juventus is already there, it all depends on the willingness of Juventus. I think Aquilani will stay at Juventus and there will not be any obstacles."

Kenny would be able to attract better players to the club than most managers if they took over in the summer. The likelihood is that we wont be in Europe so that carrot is gone. Of course, we're still Liverpool and we'll always attract players but a lack of European competition is bound to put potential players off. Kenny has the aura about him that I'm sure players would be fascinated to play under his management.

I can't see how it's a waste if Kenny wins us some cups, has us challenging for the league, or even wins it. If he manages to instil a feeling of confidence and has us playing The Liverpool Way and we do well with it, how would that be a waste?

Typical.

Just announced that Ian Ayre to become the new Managing Director and Comolli to become Director Of Football.

i for one would wanna play for someone like kk if(big if)i was a footballer.players from around the continent,i dont know.most of them would rather play for a mourinho, pep, wenger, even rafa.as torres stated in recent interview.

i can see your point, fair one as well.still would rather give it to someone else.god knows how long i've to live.i need to see em build a "dynasty".and fast........

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Comolli interview:

Nobody at Liverpool talks about Fernando Torres anymore - is that testament to the impact the new signings have already made on supporters?

I think it does. I think people would talk more about Fernando if he was scoring goals

Are you envisaging a busy summer?

Yes, I think it will be. The owners said from day one they want to improve things and turn things around quickly and I have said the same thing since I arrived. So I expect a busy summer.

Sounds promising :)

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I wouldn't really put too much hype on him, but yes he does look like a established star with all his tricks and technical dribbling. Maybe he can teach that to Liverpool youngsters cause the first 11 has NONE and can't do anything when team park the bus @ anfield.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Pacheco on loan at Norwich until the end of the season, good for him to get some more experience.

Kenny Dalglish identifies Ashley Young, Gary Cahill, Matt Jarvis & Charlie Adam as #LFC targets

Would be quite happy with those signings, especially Young and Cahill. Haven't seen much of Jarvis but I gather he's had an exceptional season and he deserves his England call-up.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Yeah, he has and he does.

He's not as fast as many other English wingers but seems quite 'smarter' if you know what I mean and makes better decisions, etc.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

great targets, seems like we will continue playing Glen on LB and Kelly as RB..

Young and Jarvis would be good wingers..and i think Adam will be great here..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

wow, did he actually come out and say those were the targets? strange negotiating tactic !

Gary Cahill is class. He'd be a great signing for most teams, but would he get into your starting XI? Ahead of Agger and Skrtel?
