Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I am just hoping we end this ordeal soon...

Let Torres go for 40-50......he is not worth it....
the guy is injury prone and sulky at worst....
on his day a great striker....but not worth putting our club
through this ordeal....

Sell him....we will rebuild......let's go for hungry players...
he can go to Chelsea and their aging squad......with the fair
play rules...Chelsea will find it tough to compete...

Liverpool can go for young promising 22-24 year old attacking
players ......
it is teams like Arsenal, United and if we do it right, ourselves
who can compete in the next 5 years....
Selling Torres now will be the best piece of business for Liverpool....

Torres is not only great player, most probably best striker in Premier league without taking penalties at all.. but he is a top shirt seling player, and a marketing figure.. i would not sell him for less than 50 mil.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

@ Abou,

Do you think Chelsea will still be challenging the coming years? Next season they are unlikely to be able to spend huge amounts of money with the new financial rules, the core of the team is +30 with little squad strength and only a couple of youngsters looking good. With Cities squad and Arsenal continuing their good youth policy I would expect them to be fighting for 4th with Spurs and Liverpool. However Liverpool is possibly the financially strongest club out of those due to the marketing abroad with Spurs 2nd with smart business from Levi. And both clubs have a younger core. I see this transfer offer as the last oppertunity to spend before the rules kick in.
You're having a laugh!

Don't know, tbh. I think their squad depth is a more pressing issue in the short term, they might be able to get away with retaining the core of the squad for a couple of seasons. Their challenge for the title will probably gradually wane through the seasons as the old guard is flushed out. Unless they bring the likes of Kakuta and McEachran through and choose players in a similar manner to Arsenal and Man Utd, whereby potential first-team players are brought in.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Defiently go down the inter route sale star player for an huge fee and rebuild the first team with quality players. Torres has been absolute brilliant for us even when he's been struggling. Shame if he goes to chelsea should wait til the summer and let the bidding war commence, tevez could be off during the summer so city would be in the frame to bid for him.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Kostaz instead of that question, why don´t you try to argument more wiser and prove that he is wrong if you think so..?

I'm not even going to bother arguing that. If you think you're suddenly in a better fate after our worst run in 15 years you've simply got something really wrong.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

You make a big mistake there. Strangely quite a lot of English fans make that mistake.
For a professional player football is about money and (second to that by a long way), trophys and playing regularly. Thinking that a club means something to a professional player is naïve and a big mistake.
Torres' favourite club was Atletico Madrid...you know the rest. Don't expect him to be attached to Liverpool if he even did not choose for his childhood club. His bond with Atletico is huge.

Another example. Diego Milito was hailed here because he choose to return to his favourite club Genoa. A year later he was playing for Inter.
English clubs play very high wages (together with Spain the highest wages in the world), that is the only reason why football players are loyal to English clubs.

The bit I highlighted is not for every professional footballer. To alot of footballers they earn so much money anyway that they could make that amount of money anywhere.

Alot of players have moved clubs and earn less in wages in order to play regularly.

Alot of players have been playing since they were 8 years old (some younger) going up through the ranks training many days a week to be a professional footballer. They have probably seen alot of their friends not make it and I think alot of footballers feel very priviliged to be playing a sport they love and getting paid ridiculous amounts of money for. But I do think trophies and playing football regularly is a big motivation for players, much higher than you suggest in your point.

Your point is too general and you make it seem like every professional footballer is like that and I don't think they are. Of course some will be like that, but I don't even think the majority are like that.

Torres I can see why he would want to leave Liverpool. But to do it now at the last minute, is just a kick in the teeth for Liverpool fans and I can agree totally with how they are feeling.

I totally agree. People should realise that Torres worths so much money because he is a selling machine. I wouldnt let him go fo less than 60M.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

£60m was already unlikely but the fact Torres gave in a transfer request makes it even less likely since it took away most of your negotiating power.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

According to Guillem Balague, Torres prepared the transfer request earlier in the week (i.e. before the Suarez deal) because he felt the owners weren't looking to improve. Then the Suarez deal was announced and his agent handed his request in afterwards, he says Torres may be having second thoughts now and will possibly be in training tomorrow thinking "what have i done?".

I hope so. Although if he's still here next week he'll probably get a bit of a frosty reception.

I dont belive this story at all mate, first of all he is a professional, half of the season he played below his class, and he knew the new owners just came, in fact what did he expected them to do? to splash milions in one week, so far we seen progress in every aspect of the club... NESV did amazing imo, they made us again in profit, we are in safe hands, they appointed Kenny and get rid of Hodgson who was appointed by previous regime...they bought a possible world class player with Suarez, and Torres himself said few weeks ago he is happy how things are going and he want to fight for trophys here... this request is a big U-turn for Torres or his agent or whoever said he should send the request to the club. I wait for explanation from the player himself and from the club.. If he want to play just for trophys, not understanding the difficult siutation this club had to overcome, if he don´t want to be here...than so be it. But he knew we were not bought by some crazy Bilionaire Sheik who can spend 100mil. pounds first week..

actually we can be happy about NESV doing all their bussines behind closed doors and in quiet manner, so far they did amazing work, and current state is all Torres fault...

To be honest i want Kenny to make chainges with our owners on helm and with Comolli doing the buisiness...If Torees dont want this, than he has nothing to do here - not a part of our rebuilding plan.

But we will not sell him cheap...we are under clever owners now..

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Yup Pipa, we are not damn $City$ or $Real$ to spend milions without thinking, will player bring something to our team.

Maybe his representatives were telling him that the Suarez and Adam bids were bluffs by NESV to show that they want to buy players without actually doing it, because a lot of people believed that to be the case before Friday. Maybe he thought they weren't going to buy anyone this window, afterall they left it very late (thanks to Ajax and Blackpool fucking around).

Shurely? I think he is the first person - i mean in the club, that has to see the chainges, they apointed Clark, Kenny, Comolli and whoever else - they just bought a "soccer" club in europe being owners of a club in USA most popular sport... So far for not knowing a lot about football here, they did pleased the fans with a good decisions in the structure of the club.. Should i compare it to previous owners who were talking more than making things? I belive sooner or later Adam will be wearing Liverpool shirt, as well as other good players that we pick up as long term targets, not panic buys...like Chelsea´s bid for Torres...

found this accidently on RAWK, i post here:

Bottom line: What these guys have accomplished in the span of 16 very short weeks is nothing short of miraculous:
Within 1 week they were meeting with fans & supporter groups & putting a face on their ownership
Within 1 week they met face-to-face with all of our corporate sponsors
Within 1 week they met face-to-face Liverpool planning officials
Within 2 weeks they completely started changing the entire Club's structure.... one that has been in FULL OUT COMPLETE ROT for the past 20+ years. No easy task even when taking over the best run companies with the best employees.
Within 3 weeks brought in a DOF role to the Club, and in doing so changed the power structure of the Club
Within 3 weeks they were already contacting other clubs to feel out transfer targets
Within 6 weeks changed the entire communication structure of the Club (don't under estimate how difficult this is)
Within 7 weeks laid down the law with the Academy & the Scouts, so we now know where the new power lies there
Within 8 weeks were already resigning Youth and Reserve players to long-term contracts
Within 10 weeks got rid of a failing Head Scout (IMO expect a lot more changes in the scouting structure)
Not once, not twice, but three times calmed the fans down, but in doing so asked for results on the pitch and in the locker room
Within 10 weeks finished their due diligence on an under-performing manager and decided to let him go
Within 12 weeks fired the manager and replaced him with someone who could further unite the fans the players and the Club
Within 14 weeks indicated that they have met with a plethora of CEO candidates
Within 14 weeks indicated that they have continued to work on stadium
Within 15 weeks initiated the Liverpool FC Supporters' Committee which will meet four times a season at Anfield with senior Club staff - the owners will be present for at least two of the meetings - to discuss the issues and ask the questions that most affect them and the fans they represent.... Chew on that.
Within 16 spent more money on a World Class transfer than has EVER BEEN SPENT in the history of Liverpool FC

Just adding that Torres and his agent simply had to be avare of this things...Either something personal happend between him and who knows who, or he dont trust this guys and so be it, goodbye then... I fully support them and Dalglish + rest of players who care...

Mate i'm not saying they haven't made changes, i'm saying how easy it'd be for some agenda-driven person to persuade Torres otherwise. If Torres signs for Chelsea for £50m, imagine how much the agents are set to pocket! They could have easily convinced Torres that the owners aren't looking to buy anyone, notice how it's all gone quiet since the announcement that the request was rejected? Maybe he's realised that they are improving the club (with the signing of Suarez being the first of many) and decided to stay.

Nobody knows for sure, and we probably will never know the full truth to be honest.

Maybe we won´t but Torres has people around him - coach, who i´m shure will have a talk with him, if he had not already..

I belive he will stay, becouse the short anouncment of tranfer request is to soon to burn the bridges between the player himself and us fans... Gerrard did this but we knew why he wanted to go...Owen did go and we knew why he want to go, but in case of Torres we simply dont know, everything is just speculations...so for now it´s best to calm down and wait..

btw, check my previous post i edited it again after you already quoted ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

PIPA...correct ...I did forget about the lost revenue of shirts...and
brand name that Torres brings...

So you are right....nothing less than 50m....

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

What do you mean why? I think he's very much in his rights to look for a move, (compared to say Rooney) He left his boyhood club at 22 to win trophies, hes now 27 and hasn't wont anything at all. Your not in the Champions League this season and most likely next year either.

Who said he has not right to look for other club? Did i said this? Enlighten me please...

Also to fix your informations, Torres is 26.. and he left Atletico when he was 23..

The rights are also on the club side since if you sign a contract, you are owned by the club untill the contract is signed, you can ask for whatever but the club has to agree or not..

Comparing Torres and Rooney in one sentence is strainge but ok.. Their only thing that they have simillar is the status at club as the clubs icon... that is why at derby matches you have pics like this:

The club icons are best paid players and best shirt sellers.. the club has all the rights to not agree the request he asked and to do whatever they deciede with him..

Do you think Ferguson wanted Rooney to stay so much becouse he is such AMAZING player? Do you think manager like him can´t find 10 better players like him? I certainly dont think so..but keeping Rooney at united at any price (wich is overpaid imo) is a sign that the money is well spend also in terms of merchandise, marketing, shirt selling etc.. the same with Owen...do you think he could not find any better player in england of the same age..? But OWEN is a name that will produce far more income than if he bought let´s say..Kevin Davies... who i think is on less wages as Owen himself..

To end this reply, do you think as United supporter you have anything to say about players rights? Do you remember Gabriel Heinze and how his transfer to LFC was blocked by SAF? ...:TTTH:

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

£42m + Anelka = Torres or a straight £50m cash ??

Anelka is still 31 and I think he'd be a good choice to partner L.Suarez upfront ...
After making up my mind I realized that Torres move to Chelsea is not as bad as it seems but I'm afraid Chelsea won't be able to meet the asking price as there's not much time left until the January Deadline.
With the money we'll get from Torres' departure we could strengthen our defense which has traditionally been one of the weakest point on Liverpool team over the past decade.
There are times when not even the 2-men Dynasty (Torres & Gerrard) can do something about as u have some numb defenders who are always there to screw things up even at the time when the rest of the team is on fire.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

mate there is nothing about us or Torres move or whatever club he want to go..

if we sell him, only for money...and only in summer, not now ;) wich is what i think will happend anyway...
