I still don't get it why he wants to move to Chelsea or anywhere else when he's being very well received by the fans and will now get the wingers and offence we lack. I just don't get it. Everyone in this forum that praised and back him up all these years are slapped with that unbelievable request.

And I don't know, but maybe that has something to do with Suarez arriving, either Torres have a bad feud before with him, or in a positive note, he waited until LFC got his replacement so he can move on.

It has to be that he was biding his time....waiting for the club
to replace him.....so that he does not feel he has left us in limbo..
and now with Chelsea coming in with an offer....he thinks this is
the best time to leave......

A bit similar to Owen leaving us to a club with more chances to win
trophies.....you know what happened with us next....
Here's hoping next year with Dalglish having signed 4-5 classy players
who are hungry for Liverpool
- Arda Turan
- Charlie Adam
- a ball-playing centre-back
- a natural left-back
- a striker

who knows...with Torres gone...this could be a new beginning to make
our team not so reliant on few players

I forgot we're in the Europa league (now), but with half the season to go (6 pts of 5th position), I don't think Liverpool will miss the CL spot by the end of the season. Liverpool will be challenging by next year, at least top 3 with the looks of the current pace. And the year after would move forward again, future is bright, next year we'll be back at the thick of things.

The argument about this topic is that, if you don't have those special players (the Torres, Rooney, Gerrard, Messi etc), what makes up your team? All average players? Each teams should have about 2-3 stars that they rely on to bring the crowd on their feet.

Hmmmm, guess my sceptism about the huge increase in the Suarez deal was correct.

Tbh I expect the club to keep him and and let him go in the summer. Works best for both parties, he can have his pick of clubs, the price gets driven up and he can probably get a better contract aswell.

Maybe with a goal that he has to help the club get European football (with both Chelsea and Spurs struggling there is a very very small chance that even CL football is still possible).

Or he gets a bumper contract, but that really would be taking the piss!

Do you think Chelsea will still be challenging the coming years? Next season they are unlikely to be able to spend huge amounts of money with the new financial rules, the core of the team is +30 with little squad strength and only a couple of youngsters looking good. With Cities squad and Arsenal continuing their good youth policy I would expect them to be fighting for 4th with Spurs and Liverpool. However Liverpool is possibly the financially strongest club out of those due to the marketing abroad with Spurs 2nd with smart business from Levi. And both clubs have a younger core. I see this transfer offer as the last oppertunity to spend before the rules kick in.

If he wants to move on with some respect from the fans the only option is to go abroad for a huge amount of money. Anywhere in England and he'll be booed everytime he plays. It's not like he is just another foreign player, he also supported Liverpool before moving (and has a YNWA tattoo). He has always seemed like a good guy but is just fed up atm. With that in mind I would expect him to be able to be convinced to go abroad in the summer instead of Chelsea now.

Otherwise if he does go that could mean A.Young and Adam joining with Suarez. Team could actually be stronger and more balanced after the window if that does happen. And we all know Torres can breakdown at any moment and then the team really is f#$ked, although with Suarez that could be less influential, although I don't think he will have a huge impact this season. He'll need to get used to the league.

imo this has nothing to do with Suarez coming, we sold Babel for 6milion pounds to cover this transfer + the funds from owners...

It's all about the timing and the way it's come out for me. Like others have said, it's not the fact that he wants to leave, it's to whom and why right now?

It makes it even worse when Dalglish is your manager and you haven't even given him the chance. You've actually ASKED to leave this club, and you've ASKED to stop being managed by the greatest legend this club has ever seen, and that right there is fucking appalling. Stay until the summer, see how we do, and then decide to leave if you have to, and the fans would mostly understand. But doing this, right now, is unforgiveable.

The ramifications this has on our season from here on in is something not being spoken of aswell. We now have hardly anyone to play upfront in Europe, so that competition now becomes very very difficult to win. We've got to bed in Suarez quicker than we'd have liked now too, and even then he's got nobody to play with upfront. All those people who bought Torres shirts, the banners made, the brand new King & Kid banner - all fucked off now. Suarez can't be lauded as much as he would be, the attention completely off his dream move.

It's all fucked up, and as I said before - I've never been so disappointed in somebody in my life.

Situation is clear to me as it never was. I've hoped that Nando have red heart, I was wrong. He said same things to Atletico Fans years ago, and he was saying same to us. He just wanned to have good opinion. He stayed in Liverpool in summer becouse he thought that with new coach we will be able to work something out. Reality was brutal, but he didn't requested transfer in winter becouse there was no club ready to give 50 or 60 mln $ and he didn't wanned to destroy he's own image. But suddenly Chelsea came with offer and he knew that they are desperate and they ready to give 50 mln for him. So he requested transfer. If that's true he's no one to me. Few weaks ago he said how he loves Liverpool and now when Chelsea's offer came in he doing such things. It would be no problem if he said this at starting of winters transfers, we could buy few good players on his place. Now we are in deep sh*t. Becouse Suarez is no repleacement and if Torres won't go to Chelski, He won't propably play at his highest level.

Mate i realy dont mind him as player leaving, this are profesionals, well at least..i also want players playing for the club who want to wear the shirt in good and bad times, but the situation about Torres is different as Owen, Owen played for two clubs and his career was in deciline, so he agreed to join United to maybe go back to top..wich didn´t happend..

But Torres want to join Chelsea...from all teams, even City is in better condition that Chelsea... Chelsea need to rebuild their squad just like Liverpool, they are nowhere near winning the Premier league this season...

So why to ask now for transfer, two days to end the window, with the possibility to fight for Europa League trophy still on... with Suarez bought as his partner or the kind of player he wanted..

I realy dont understand his behaviour and what was behind this request... I think it´s something deeper we dont know, becouse people can´t chainge so fast..especialy people like him, you never seem to doubt about his commitment, neither in books or interviews or anywhere..

If we want to sell him, i hope we will not go under 40-50 milion pounds, the club will loose their iconic player, shirt selling maschine but most of all a hero to many, especialy kids who don´t understand the meaning behind this... it´s sad.

Guys, players get bored, no matter how much they love their club. They always say they love their clubs to make fans happy - everyone will say it. Shevchenko and Kaka constantly said they wanted to grow old at Milan, then left when their price was still high. We won the CL after Sheva left.

I don't think you'll get £40m, I'd say £20-something/£30-something. Clubs know he wants to leave, and it's down to him to not renew his contract or to break it.

he signed 6 year contract in 2007, so it will end in 2013... he also has £50m buyout clause..

With new owners i doubt we will sell less than that..we don´t have to...

most possible is money and realy good player swap...

also mate, Kaka or Sheva did´t wanted to move 3 days to end of January transfer window to let´s say Juventus and Inter Milan..

edit: as i said he is also big maketing name, we know we will loose also in this area if we sell him, so i doubt it will be for less than 40, if we do so, it will be stupid..

That's true about the 3 days thing. Maybe it's to find a buyer now for a summer deal? And if his contract ends in 2013, from next year, if he doesn't renew, he can leave for peanuts as he'll go for free in the summer of the 12/13 season.

It seems strange as Chelsea are a team with old players all over the pitch, Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Malouda, Anelka are all the wrong side of 30. To my mind only really Kalou, Mikel, Ivanovic/Alex and Essien are established players under 30. There are other young players who might come good Bruma, Sturridge, Van Anholt, Kakutka etc, but equally well they might not end up being that good. Their most recent big, young singning (Ramires) has been totally unsuited to the premier league.

If he wanted to go to a big young team in the Premier League (like say Arsenal or City) you could maybe see the logic for him wanting to move and then challenge for trophies over the next 5 years.

Personally I'd take the offer if it goes up to £50m. That is an obscene amount for any single player, when you bear in mind a players form can implode at any point (Rooney) or he can develop cronic injuries (Redondo) irrespective of how good they are. I'd also take Kalou from them in exchange for £5-8m.

I said i got no problems with Torres leaving, but that's not how professionals do. Like I said, if he would request transfer at statring of winter, we would find good repleacement for him, now we can do nothing.

EDIT: People, Suarez is in LFC and nobody is happy... What have you done Fernando ?!

If he want to go, wich obvioulsy he want to, i realy hope Manchester City will go to biding war with Chelsea.. most probably in summer...

this is a bad situation, very strainge and bad..

bad becouse he with the transfer request he will break the bond with supporters, and with less than 3 days to go in transfer window, we will not sell him.. He will continue playing not with his heart for us untill summer, and his prize will be lower automaticaly..

i would not mind him asking for transfer in summer and then we could see big clubs not only from england bid for him....as club we could have enough time to consider what is best offer and sell him if he want..

this is not about the thing that he will go for free...we dont have to sell him and he would have to go, just like Babel, even if he dont fancy Hoffenheim...but becouse Torres has 2.5 years still on the contract here...

We could as well drop him in reserves untill 2012-2013 season, wich won´t happend obviously but the power is in club hands not in Torres hands...

it´s certainly not fans he want to transfer there..

I think it´s either money of course...or the view of Chelsea appointing a certain manager without job currently... in future.. or realy bad advice that convinced him he could win CL or Premier league with Chelsea.. wich imo won´t happend as they need rebuilding to..

I would say he can´t do nothing, we already did something - anounced he is not for sale and rejected his request...the power over him is in club hands.. we deciede to sell him and where to sell him for what money...either he agree or he will play for reserves untill 2013...

I have a feeling that foreign players that are doing good in the Dutch competition find it harder to succeed in England.

yes but this depends on many things..i think Suarez show his ability not only in league but also in his national team, he has the skills and it´s up to Kenny to take the best out of him for the team..

still this situation is strainge and i wait for more anouncments from official page regarding Torres...

remember Suarez is not yet Liverpool player and our main CF requested move from the club...

Yes, but we still will be without stiker for rest of the season. And i don't know if that's true, that he got 50 mln clause. Well $City$ can give us that with no problem.

You make a big mistake there. Strangely quite a lot of English fans make that mistake.
For a professional player football is about money and (second to that by a long way), trophys and playing regularly. Thinking that a club means something to a professional player is naïve and a big mistake.
Torres' favourite club was Atletico Madrid...you know the rest. Don't expect him to be attached to Liverpool if he even did not choose for his childhood club. His bond with Atletico is huge.

Another example. Diego Milito was hailed here because he choose to return to his favourite club Genoa. A year later he was playing for Inter.
English clubs play very high wages (together with Spain the highest wages in the world), that is the only reason why football players are loyal to English clubs.

my friend i know this, but for Torres i give you again quote from his autobiography book:

Lot´s of LFC fans thought he means it...including me..

There is also players who stay and fight in a team rather than escaping..those are very rare.. Kuyt had offers from Rafa to join him in Inter, with higher sallary i bet.. but he stayed..

Unfortunately most players are nothing more than mercenaries today.

Only a select few clubs like Bilbao and Barcelona can still exert a hold on their players having brought most of them through the club ranks.

Torres is a bit underhand in what he has done but a club is always greater than any player and the club is constituted by the fans.

Whether he will be classed as a legend alongside those one club men like Ian Callaghan or Arthur Goddard is a very moot point.

Most players do not now stay at a club sufficiently long to be classified as such.

If he mopes around he can be a disruptive influence so move on take Suarez as the focal point and use the transfer monies to invest wisely in 2-3 very good players.

You can't compare nowadys football players to the likes of Callaghan...times have changed.
We are acting different towards outr employer than people 30 years ago.

Moving to Chelsea is quite strange, Surely City would be a better option (im sure their kicking themselves now having got Dzeko without knowing Torres was an option)

Gutted but not surprised. his body language has been off for a long, long time now. I think the problem is just Chelsea, as someone said above, they arnt in great shape themselves at the minute. Seems a bit desperate from him to be honest. They were pretty poor today from what i saw too.

Disappointed by all this to be honest. Torres always seemed like one of the 'good guys' in football. If he went to Barca, or Inter or Milan then fine, but to another prem team? Not ideal.

Well anyway, i'm sure that if some miracle won't happen (Like buying Aguero or somethin') club won't let Torres go till summer. In summer if he want to leave, no problem, we will buy some interesting players to repleace him for sure. And i'm tellin' this once again. There will be no problem if he would request transfer at starting of winter. Not now when he saw desperate Chelsea and we have no time to repleace him, and last thing 2 weaks ago he said how he love Liverpool and there is no way to see him in any other english team.

Let Torres go for 40-50......he is not worth it....
the guy is injury prone and sulky at worst....
on his day a great striker....but not worth putting our club
through this ordeal....

Sell him....we will rebuild......let's go for hungry players...
he can go to Chelsea and their aging squad......with the fair
play rules...Chelsea will find it tough to compete...

Liverpool can go for young promising 22-24 year old attacking
players ......
it is teams like Arsenal, United and if we do it right, ourselves
who can compete in the next 5 years....
Selling Torres now will be the best piece of business for Liverpool....
